Jim Carrey has yet to win an Oscar, but he'll be showered with love at France's equivalent to the ceremony next year.
The comedy icon, 63, is set to receive a prestigious tribute at the 2026 Cesar Awards, Variety reports. The ceremony which will take place on Feb. 27 in Paris.
The Honorary César Award, which pays tribute to the career achievements of artists and filmmakers, has previously been given to:
Robert Redford
Julia Roberts
George Clooney
David Fincher
Christopher Nolan
Cate Blanchett
Penelope Cruz
Carrey was born in Canada and shot to American stardom with three wildly successful comedies: Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask and Dumb and Dumber. He also starred in acclaimed dramatic films such as The Truman Show, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Man on the Moon, projects that earned him two Golden Globes for best actor.
"In these films he creates exuberant, unrestrained and unforgettable characters that have become a core part of popular culture," the Academy behind the Cesar Awards said in a statement, via Variety. "His career is marked by exceptional versatility: in film, he alternates between blockbusters and auteur cinema; on television, his moving and sensitive performance in the Showtime series Kidding once again confirmed the breadth of his talent."
Carrey has also written Memoirs and Misinformation, which became a New York Times bestseller, and was the subject of Netflix's Emmy-nominated documentary Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond.
Earlier this year, Grey's Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo revealed that she was actually cut from Carrey's Oscar-winning film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. In an interview with Katie Couric in June, Pompeo, 55, said she was cast as the ex-girlfriend of Carrey's lead character and even filmed scenes for the cult classic. However, her character was a victim of post-production editing, and she ended up getting cut all the way out of the film.
