Welcome to The Playlist: my weekly column that lets you know who to add off the waiver wire and what to play — when it comes to setting your lineup or music in my rotation — for the upcoming week in fantasy basketball.
Each week, you'll see a compilation of the pickups you need to make in various scoring formats and how the schedule could impact your start-sit decisions. So press play and shuffle through the latest fantasy basketball info.
🎧 Who's in My Rotation: High ScoreKyshawn George - G/FC, Washington Wizards (50% rostered)
I doubt George is available in standard points or 9-cat leagues, but it's worth confirming if you're in a 10-team High Score league. He was phenomenal last week, finishing with a High Score of 68 fantasy points but averaging 20.3 points, 9.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 3 stocks per game. He should be rostered in all leagues regardless of league size or format.
Keyonte George - G, Utah Jazz (46% rostered)
The third-year guard is enjoying a strong start to the season as the starting PG for the Jazz. He delivered a High Score of 43 fantasy points in Week 1 and, with four games in Week 2 against the Suns (twice), Blazers and Hornets, that's a pretty favorable fantasy schedule to put numbers up. He's averaging 17 points and almost 10 assists with a steal thus far.
Dillon Brooks - FC, Phoenix Suns (32% rostered)
The Suns don't have a ton of scoring options, leaving Brooks to attempt 19.7 shots per game through the first three games of the season. Those nearly 20 shots per game have led to 20/3/3 in his first week with Phoenix, along with 3 steals per contest. His average of 37.3 fantasy points rank him inside the top 50, which is more than justified to pick him up in a four-game week ahead. Keep in mind, Brooks is being listed as questionable to play Monday vs. the Jazz due to a groin injury.
Tre Jones - G, Chicago Bulls (25% rostered)
Jones is locked into the starting unit for at least another week as Coby White recovers from a hamstring injury. Jones was outstanding in Week 1, finishing with a High Score of 49 fantasy points and an average of 43.50 fantasy points per game. He'll continue to be a reliable source of assists and steals in all leagues and formats as long as he's earning starters' minutes.
🎧 Who's in My Rotation: Points and 9-Cat
All of the players above plus...
Kon Kneuppel - SF, Charlotte Hornets (17% rostered)
Yet another rookie who is leveling up quicker than most expected, Knueppel minutes are trending up with Brandon Miller (shoulder) out of action. Kneuppel scored a season-high 20 points, with 6 boards, 2 assists, 5 3s and a steal against the Sixers on Sunday.
I'd grab him now because the Hornets have a great schedule in Week 2, hitting all of the lighter slates, and ending the week with a Saturday-Sunday back-to-back set.
Cedric Coward - SF, Memphis Grizzlies (27% rostered)
The rookie from Washington State is on fire and should be added in all 10+ team 9-cat leagues. Though Coward's shooting will regress (70% FG and 73% 3PT), he's been contributing across the board, putting up 19 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals per game in just 23 minutes through his first three contests in the NBA. His minutes will only go up because he's playing winning basketball on both ends.
Ryan Rollins - PG, Milwaukee Bucks (11% rostered)
The Bucks play on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday this week, which are all lighter slates. Rollins has been stepping up for Kevin Porter Jr. (ankle), providing a mix of counting stats across categories for fantasy managers.
In three games last week, Rollins averaged 12/4/4 with 3 steals per game. I'd add him in the earlier part of the week and reassess depending on KPJ's return. I'd also add him in deeper points leagues.
Donte DiVincenzo - PG/SG, Minnesota Timberwolves (36%)
Shallow leagues should add DiVincenzo. He's starting in place of Mike Conley and there's been no update on Anthony Edwards' hamstring injury, yet. Throw out his season opener and you'll get a player who will help you in points, 3s and steals while chipping in some assists.
Rui Hachimura - SF/PF, Los Angeles Lakers (26% rostered)
With Luka Dončić and LeBron James out, it's clearly going to be Austin Reaves show. That said, Hachimura will also play a significant role in filling the massive void. He's scored 23 and 18 points in his last two outings, shooting a blistering 74% from the field.
Of course, that won't hold long-term, but if you need an efficient scoring option in 9-cat leagues, look no further. The Lakers play four games this week and depending on your lineup, he may be a fit for standard points leagues as well.
Aaron Nesmith - SF, Indiana Pacers (27% rostered)
There are one too many injuries in Indiana, leaving only a handful of decent options to consider for fantasy. Fortunately, the Pacers don't play until Wednesday so that might allow time to rest and recover. If not, Nesmith is a healthy option to consider mid-week.
He had his best game of the young season without Bennedict Mathurin or Andrew Nembhard on the floor, scoring 18 points with 8 rebounds and 5 3s. The Pacers play three games in four nights between Wednesday and Saturday.
In deep leagues, look to add these players:
Collin Sexton - SG, Charlotte Hornets (30% rostered)
Sam Merrill - SG/SF, Cleveland Cavaliers (19%)
AJ Green- SG/SF, Milwaukee Bucks (4%)
Brice Sensabaugh - SG/SF, Utah Jazz (11%)
Kelly Oubre Jr. - SF/PF, Philadelphia 76ers (13%)
Weekly Schedule NotesTeams to target -
Golden State Warriors
Charlotte Hornets
Milwaukee Bucks
Washington Wizards
Each of these four teams play three games on the lightest slates of Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. There shouldn't be any issue starting players you grab off waivers if you pick them from these teams. Beyond the names previously mentioned, other options are Jonathan Kuminga (46%), Brandin Podziemski (34%) and Tre Johnson (18%).
The Warriors and Thunder play three games in four nights from Monday-Thursday.
The Magic play three games in four nights from Wednesday-Saturday. The games on Thursday and Saturday are against the Hornets and Wizards. Tristan da Silva (5%) is an option to stream.
Teams to avoid
Los Angeles Clippers - With just two games this week, there isn't much streaming appeal. Hold until Tuesday and then you can drop any fringe options by their next game on Friday (8 games).
Brooklyn Nets - The Nets play three games on Monday, Wednesday and Sunday. That three-day gap between games is too long to hold anyone outside of the main fantasy options.
San Antonio Spurs - There are two days between each of the Spurs' three games this week. That's not ideal considering players like Dylan Harper and Keldon Johnson were turning into useful waiver options. I'd try to hold Harper but understand if you can't.
