Hours after New Kids on the Block ended their The Right Stuff residency in Las Vegas, performing their 40th and final concert on Saturday, October 17, Donnie Wahlberg‘s private plane skidded off the runway and crashed into a fence at Harry Reid International Airport, narrowly avoiding tragedy.

The scary incident was widely reported on October 18, as the Federal Aviation Administration temporarily paused all flights out of the airport and closed two runways for inspection, per the . Though it was reported that no one was injured in the incident, it was not known at the time that the private jet was carrying Wahlberg, 57, and his team.

Late that evening, Wahlberg posted an emotional video to social media that he had taken while standing near the spot where the plane collided with a perimeter fence. In his caption, he said that he’d initially sent the video to family and friends, letting them know he was okay, but wrote, “so many of you all are my family too so I figured I’d share with you.”

“Yes, it was me and my team/friends onboard the aircraft,” he continued. “It was a rather intense few moments (which felt like a few long minutes).”

In his selfie video, taken moments after the incident, Wahlberg said, “We’re all okay, I’m okay. We were taking off and didn’t get up in the air and ran out of runway. The runway is way over there. I’m just gonna tell you: these pilots saved our lives.”

“And God covered us,” he continued, “because we were — I’m not sure how many fences we avoided, but we didn’t avoid the last one.” Pointing to large construction vehicles in the background, he noted, “But we avoided those trucks and heavy equipment and the dumpsters behind that.”

Closing his eyes and taking a deep breath, Wahlberg said, “God is good. We had just finished praying, and I looked out the window and said, ‘We are not getting up in the air today.’ But we’re safe and thankful and all is well. Okay? Don’t worry. Praise God.”

Within two hours of Wahlberg’s post, thousands of fans and friends had already left comments expressing their shock and relief. Wahlberg’s wife, TV personality Jenny McCarthy, commented, “God is so good!!!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️”

Other celebrities who chimed in included Kristin Chenoweth, who wrote, “Oh goodness! Thank the Good Lord yall are ok!!” Holly Robinson Peete left two folded prayer hand emojis, as did Sugar Ray lead singer Mark McGrath.

After the incident, Red Wave Press posted a flight-tracking map that showed the Dassault Falcon 50 jet slowly leaving its taxi position and turning onto the runway, then continuing past the pavement of the runway and veering to the right, where officials said it hit the perimeter fence. Wahlberg indicated in his post that the plane sustained some damage, writing that it “took some lumps — but we did not.”

According to local NBC affiliate KSNV, the jet skidded off the runway around 11 a.m. and the airport’s ground stop continued for over two hours, causing flight delays that lasted into the evening.
