Backup quarterback Demond Williams Jr. came off the bench in the fourth quarter to toss a go-ahead 25-yard touchdown pass to Chris Lawson with 1:30 remaining, fueling Washington's late rally in a 17-10 Big Ten victory over Nebraska on Saturday night.

Just 15 seconds after Lawson's touchdown put the Huskies ahead, Alex McLaughlin intercepted an Anthony Colandrea pass and returned it 48 yards for a score, stretching the margin to 17-7.

Lawson delivered a career night, hauling in 12 receptions for 155 yards. On fourth-and-18 earlier in the game-winning drive, Lawson kept Washington's hopes alive with an acrobatic 24-yard grab while falling backward along the sideline. Two snaps later, Williams found Lawson streaking down the left sideline, where the receiver broke a tackle and dove into the end zone for the 10-7 lead.

Elijah Brown started under center for Washington (5-3, 2-3 Big Ten) in place of Williams, who had been sidelined since suffering fractured ribs against Iowa on Oct. 9. Brown completed 19 of 30 passes for 136 yards before Williams returned in the fourth quarter, finishing 7-of-13 for 99 yards through the air while leading the Huskies with 28 rushing yards on four carries.

The loss marked Nebraska's third straight defeat (5-3, 2-3 Big Ten), and it has squandered fourth-quarter leads in all three contests.

Colandrea went 24-of-44 passing for 255 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions for the Cornhuskers. Jamal Rule rushed 13 times for a game-high 72 yards, while Jacory Barney Jr. added six catches for 65 yards.

Colandrea threw picks on Nebraska's first two drives before orchestrating a 10-play, 95-yard march late in the first quarter, culminating in a 24-yard touchdown pass to backup tight end Carter Nelson on third-and-2.

The game turned into a defensive slugfest with neither offense reaching the red zone until Nebraska drove inside the Washington 20 with 11:07 left in regulation.

However, the Huskies held firm, and Kyle Cunanan pushed a 36-yard field goal wide right to keep it 7-3. Washington's only earlier points had come on Tyler Robles' career-long 50-yard field goal with 41 seconds left in the first half.
