Pro Bowl running back Kyren Williams and the Los Angeles Rams agreed to a three-year, $33 million contract extension with $23 million guaranteed, multiple media outlets reported Tuesday.

The deal makes Williams the seventh highest-paid running back in the NFL based on new money per season. He was set to enter the final season of his rookie contract with a base salary of $5.35 million, per Spotrac.

Williams, 24, made a huge impact in 2024, recording career highs in carries (316), rushing yards (1,299) and rushing touchdowns (14).

He has rushed for 2,582 yards and totaled 31 touchdowns (26 rushing, five receiving) in 38 games since being selected by the Rams in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Last season, Williams became the third Rams player age 24 or younger to have at least 27 scrimmage touchdowns in a two-year span. He joined Todd Gurley (40, 2017-18) and Hall of Fame member Eric Dickerson (34, 1983-84) on the short list.

Hard Knocks with the Buffalo Bills: What to know ahead of premiere

Ayrton Ostly, USA TODAY August 6, 2025 at 2:41 AM

There are few NFL traditions quite like "Hard Knocks."

The sports documentary program has followed at least one team through training camp every year since 2012 and a few more dating back to 2001. This year, the program will follow the Buffalo Bills for the first time.

Buffalo won its fifth consecutive division title and made the AFC conference championship last season behind MVP quarterback Josh Allen. He led one of the top-scoring offenses in the league in his seventh NFL season. But it ended in familiar fashion for the Bills: a playoff loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. It was the fourth time the Bills have lost to the Chiefs in the postseason in the last five years.

Hard Knocks on HBO: 20 most memorable moments from NFL training camp docuseries

Allen and coach Sean McDermott are back for their eighth season together in 2025. Allen signed a new extension that'll keep him with the franchise through the 2030 season and got married this offseason. That'll offer plenty of material for "Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Buffalo Bills" before getting into the season ahead.

Starting running back James Cook is looking for a new contract. A group of rookies on defense could be crucial for the team's ceiling in the playoffs. And on the topic of playoffs: how will the team bounce back from a second conference championship game loss in five years?

All of that and more will surely be a part of this year's "Hard Knocks" series that premieres tonight. Here's how to catch the action.

Jared Allen knows how to tear it up!

The NFL legend, 43, suffered a wardrobe malfunction when performing his signature sack celebration on stage after his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame Gold Jacket ceremony on Friday, Aug. 1 in Canton, Ohio.

As soon as he was awarded the gold jacket honor, Allen — a 2004 fourth-round NFL Draft pick who played for four teams in his 12-year career — is seen in a viral video hitting his go-to move one last time, accidentally ripping his pants before walking off stage.

"You know, I got caught up in the moment on Friday night during the Gold Jacket Dinner. I was coming off the stage and decided to do my signature sack celebration one last time," he recalled on Fox and Friends, joking that he "should've listened" to his wife, Amy.

"She was like, 'What were you thinking, those are fitted pants! You know that's not going to work for you!" he continued with a laugh.

On Aug. 2, Allen was honored alongside fellow Class of 2025 inductees — which included Eric Allen, Antonio Gates and Sterling Sharpe — at the 2025 Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Ceremony, which was held at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium.

Wearing his trademark cowboy hat, Allen was the first inductees among the new class to take the stage. Before the the celebration malfunction, the athlete — who played for the Kansas City Chiefs, Minnesota Vikings, Chicago Bears and Carolina Panthers — spoke about motivation for success.

"Why is what makes you different; it's your long game," he said. "It's the motivation that drives you to do all necessary action steps to achieve your goal. My why can be summed up in three things: fear, respect and the pursuit of greatness."

"I apply my why to everything in my life," he continued, adding, "To my walk with Christ, my marriage and being a father."

Towards the end of his speech, the star player became emotional when he paid tribute to his wife and expressed his hopes for his daughters, Brinley and Lakelyn. He addressed them directly as they sat in the crowd to support.

"You are a true game elevator," Allen told Amy when speaking on stage. "You are one of the smartest people I know. I am in awe of you every single day, and I love you more than life itself."

Then, the California native shared a message to his daughters.

"Through this process, the word legacy has been talked about a lot... The Hall often says they're here to tell my story," he shared, adding, "Well, I'm here to tell you two, you are my greatest accomplishments."

"When I get called home to heaven one day, if all they talk about is this gold jacket, my career, then I failed miserably as a father, a husband and a friend," Allen said.

"You two are my legacy," he continued of his daughters. "You are both so talented, and I cannot wait to see what you both decide to do and to conquer this world. So always put Christ first, find your why, dream big dreams and always pursue greatness in whatever you do."

The 2025 Pro Football Hall of Fame's four-person class is the smallest since 2005. It included four of the best players, however, from the 1990s and 2000s.

Allen wrapped his Hall of Fame career with 136.0 sacks. He finished with the 12th-most sacks in NFL history since sacks became an official stat in 1982.

The five-time Pro Bowler announced his retirement on Feb. 18, 2016.

(Reuters) -Companies across the corporate spectrum revealed more pain from the cost of U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff war, with bellwethers Caterpillar, Marriott and others on Tuesday noting weaker demand and higher prices.

All told, global companies that have reported earnings this quarter are looking at a hit of around $15 billion to profits in 2025, Reuters' global tariff tracker shows.

A majority of these come from industrial, manufacturing and automotive sectors, while financial and tech sectors are less affected.

Trump has said the tariffs are necessary to resolve U.S. trade imbalances and declining manufacturing power; he has said the levies on imports will bring jobs and investment to the United States.

"I think we're just getting started," said Steve Sosnick, chief market analyst at Interactive Brokers in Greenwich, Connecticut. "The tariffs are still in their infancy, especially with major trading partners like Canada, China and India still in flux."

Tuesday's round of earnings illustrates the different ways trade policy is affecting companies, from the rising costs of imported materials like metals to the slippage in consumer confidence that has sapped demand.

Caterpillar, for instance, saw a 0.7% hit to revenue, while its cost of goods rose by 6.5%, and CEO Joe Creed told investors that tariffs are "likely to be a more significant headwind to profitability in the second half of 2025."

Beer maker Molson Coors said it was expecting costs of between $20 million and $35 million in the second half of the year due to a tariff-driven rise in the price of aluminum delivered to the U.S. Midwest.

Tariffs on aluminum shipped into the United States were doubled to 50% in June from the previous 25% duty imposed in March.

The markets, however, have remained resilient even as Trump's policies continue to change. He said on Tuesday that he would raise tariffs on goods imported from India from the current 25% as part of an ongoing spat with the country over its purchases of oil from Russia.

U.S. equities rebounded sharply from their April lows following what Trump deemed "Liberation Day," when he unleashed a wave of global tariffs.

The S&P 500 hit all-time highs last month on the back of strong earnings, led by the so-called Magnificent Seven, a group of tech companies that have benefited from surging investment in artificial intelligence.

Of the 370 companies in the S&P 500 that have reported earnings so far, 80.3% have reported quarterly earnings above analyst estimates, with their earnings growth rate at 11.9%, according to LSEG data.

"We are figuring out that some industries may be affected, but they also might gain because (new) markets are open to them that may have been closed in the past. We're going to have to have a couple more quarters to see how this actually plays out," said Kim Forrest, chief investment officer at Bokeh Capital Partners.

Several market strategists of late have warned that a correction could be in the offing, but are broadly optimistic about the market. Evercore ISI analysts believe the market could dip between 7% and 15% in the September-October period as growth slows and inflation increases, though the AI-driven bull rally should continue.

Higher ingredient costs ate into profits of Taco Bell parent Yum Brands, which, like McDonald's and other fast-food chains, leaned on budget-friendly meal deals to boost demand as U.S. consumers pull back on eating out due to worries about rising costs.

Hotel operator Marriott International cut its 2025 forecast on softening travel demand, while agribusiness giant Archer-Daniels Midland posted its lowest profit in five years.

While some market participants noted that tariff-led uncertainty was likely to persist this year, with over 100 global companies withdrawing or cutting financial guidance, others said in the longer run, companies and investors would be able to see some green shoots.

"It seems that companies themselves are a little more optimistic about the outlook now that the Liberation Day tariffs are in the rearview mirror," said Ross Mayfield, investment strategy analyst at Baird.

"Companies are going to have to be really deft in how they navigate this (tariffs), but obviously there's no choice but to pass some of this on to the consumer. We see S&P margins hovering around record highs, and it wouldn't surprise me if that ticked down a little bit in the coming quarters."

A magnitude 2.7 earthquake rattled parts of New York and New Jersey around midday on Aug. 5, according to data from the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor struck just over a mile southwest of Hillsdale, New Jersey, at about 12:11 p.m. ET, and had a depth of about seven miles, according to USGS. Hillsdale is about 20 miles northwest of Manhattan.

Weak shaking was felt throughout parts of northern New Jersey, including Newark, Paterson and Englewood, according to impact reports compiled by USGS.

The quake was felt as far west as Queens and northwards up to Duchess County, according to the USGS reports, which are not scientifically verified. Some areas reported slightly stronger shaking.

The Bergen County Office of Emergency Management said in a social media post that it is monitoring USGS reports but there have been no immediate reports of damage.

NYC Emergency Management confirmed in a post on X that tremors were felt in the city. No major impacts have been reported, but the agency said it is monitoring the situation.

People in the area should prepare for possible aftershocks, which could follow minutes, hours or even days after the initial quake, the agency said.

Tuesday's earthquake comes days after another magnitude 3.0 temblor hit New Jersey on Aug. 2 and was felt as far as New York.

This is a developing story.

The second part of Teddi Mellencamp's appearance on The Jamie Kern Lima Show podcast dropped on Tuesday, Aug. 5

During the episode, the former The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star addressed her alleged affair with horse trainer Simon Schroeder

"To this day, does it still hurt my heart and I wonder if that's why it got cancer? Yes, like it was my payback," she said

Teddi Mellencamp has broken her silence about her alleged affair with her horse trainer, Simon Schroeder.

On the second half of The Jamie Kern Lima Show podcast, which dropped Tuesday, Aug. 5, Mellencamp opened up about the alleged affair with Schroeder, which first circulated in the news at the end of 2024.

"I've never talked about it at all, just because of the kids, and I've never wanted anybody to have a guarantee whether it happened or didn't happen, but what I can say is, did I do things that hurt other people? Yes," Mellencamp, 44, said.

"To this day, does it still hurt my heart and I wonder if that's why it got cancer? Yes, like it was my payback," she said, referring to her stage 4 cancer diagnosis after her melanoma metastasized to her brain and lungs.

With tears in her eyes, Mellencamp said that "nothing goes without payment."

"However long it was ... it was all over the press, it was everywhere. You're trying to minimize everybody's pain. You end up maximizing it," she continued. "Because now not only do you have yourself, you have your significant other, your kids, the other person's significant other, their kids."

Schroeder's ex-wife, Karli Schroeder, with whom he shares two kids, filed for divorce on Dec. 30, citing irreconcilable differences, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE.

The filing, in which she also asked for spousal support as well as payment of her attorney fees from Simon, stated they were married April 14, 2024, and split on Sept. 22, 2024. The pair had a previous marriage annulled in Ventura County in February — but remarried two months later, according to Us Weekly.

The divorce occurred after rumors swirled in November 2024 that Simon had an affair with Mellencamp, amid the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum's divorce from Edwin Arroyave. Simon never commented on the affair rumors, and never responded to PEOPLE's request for comment in January 2025.

Mellencamp and Arroyave were married for 13 years when she filed for divorce on Nov. 1, 2024, citing irreconcilable differences, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE. However, in February 2025, the divorce proceedings came to a halt when Mellencamp revealed her cancer diagnosis.

In the months since, Mellencamp and Arroyave remained on good terms and emphasized how they're still good friends. He has even been by her side as she continues to undergo treatment for cancer.

Charles Sykes/Bravo via Getty

From left: Edwin Arroyave and Teddi MellencampSpeaking about her actions on the Aug. 5 podcast, Mellencamp said, "So many people are hurt in the wreckage."

"But I can say this from knowing — the wreckage doesn't happen on its own," she said, adding that "it never had happened to me."

"I think I was so broken as a human being during that part of my life that I did things out of my better judgment," she said, explaining that she was "so sick."

"Remember how I told you there was like months of headaches and stuff like that? I was looking for comfort anywhere I can get it," she said, referring to the "severe and debilitating headaches" she mentioned in her announcement about the brain tumors.

"I felt so much pain. I felt so sick. I didn't go to the doctors. I just felt some certain kind of way. And the pain was so much that I had gotten to the point of like, almost hating waking up in the morning, which I had never been that kind of person," she continued.

Mellencamp said she wasn't herself but is not going to blame her alleged actions on the fact that she was sick.

"But I do think a bunch of things happened in my life all around the same time, and I had zero control of any of them. Like I just was running around like a chicken with my head cut off," she said.

Teddi Mellencamp on 'The Jamie Kern Lima Show'In earlier segments of the podcast, Mellencamp spoke about how she and Arroyave, 48, put their divorce on pause when they found out about her stage 4 brain cancer diagnosis.

"I always knew he'd do the right thing by me," Mellencamp said. "If he wanted to, he could still be filing and finishing this divorce off right now. But, my dad [musician John Mellencamp] and family just said like, 'I don't think this is the right thing for her to be able to try to navigate right now or figure out.' It was like, 'Yeah, of course. No, we'll wait. We'll wait until she's better, and then we'll figure it out.'"

Though Mellencamp called Arroyave her "ex-husband" at one point during the episode, she clarified that she doesn't "know what you call somebody you were married to, then you filed for divorce, and then you got cancer, so then everything went on hold."

"To this day, I don't hate Edwin," she said, adding that she and Arroyave were staying in the same house together and "don't argue."

""I just want him to be happy, and I want our kids to be happy, and I want us to be able to have a good friendship and relationship, and I don't want to do anything to hurt him," she said. "I kind of know how our marriage works."

Screaming for help, a hiker was rescued after falling over a waterfall and landing 25 feet down in "a rocky pool," according to officials in Southern California.

The incident took place in the unincorporated community of Forest Falls on Sunday, Aug. 3, the San Bernardino County Fire Protection District reported. San Bernadino is about 60 miles east of Los Angeles.

At 3:45 p.m., the agency posted on X, crews responded to Big Falls, a popular hiking destination in the county about 85 miles east of Los Angeles.

San Bernardino County firefighters airlifted a "seriously injured" hiker after he fell 25 feet at Forest Falls.

The agency reported the hiker had lost his footing and fallen 25 feet while attempting to cross "a slippery portion of the falls."

While the firefighters who initially responded could not see the hiker, they could hear "cries for help," the department said.

Footage released by the department shows a rescue helicopter lifting the hiker off the rocks, towing him after he is secured by first responders in a Stokes basket.

The hiker was taken to a local trauma center to be treated for unspecified injuries, the agency wrote.

His condition was not immediately known on Tuesday.

Incidents often occur at popular location

No other injuries were reported in connection with the fall, officials said.

In its announcement, the fire agency urged visitors to stay on marked trails, avoid climbing on or around waterfalls, and keep a safe distance from slippery or steep areas.

"We respond to incidents at this popular location often, where people are seriously injured, so please make smart choices and stay safe," the agency wrote.

The fire agency did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
