Inter Miami head coach Javier Mascherano confirmed that Lionel Messi will miss the team's Leagues Cup match on Wednesday against Pumas UNAM due to injury.

Messi suffered a "minor" muscle injury in his right leg and was subbed out in the 11th minute of Saturday's win against Necaxa. Mascherano described Messi's injury as "discomfort" following the match and told reporters that he would undergo further testing.

On Tuesday, Mascherano told reporters that "within the bad news, it's good news."

"We don't like to estimate a return, especially in Leo's [case]," Mascherano said, via ESPN. "He usually recovers very well from injuries and above all, normally does with speed. So we will see, but clearly for tomorrow he is unavailable. But then we will see how he feels, how he progresses."

Inter Miami wraps up Phase One of Leagues Cup against Pumas and has earned five points after two matches with a regulation win and a victory after penalty kicks. The top four teams in both the MLS and Liga MX tables will advance to the knockout portion of the tournament. The Herons must win on Wednesday to have a chance to move on and would next play Aug. 19 or 20.

Should Inter Miami fail to advance, they will resume their MLS schedule on Sunday against Orlando City.

Oscar-winning actressJamie Lee Curtis is the latest Hollywood star to weigh in on Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson's romance. The couple has been all the rage since they sparked romance rumors after walking the red carpet at The Naked Gun premiere.

As Paradereported, Andy Cohen weighed in on the relationship by pointing out similarities between Anderson and Neeson's late wife, Natasha Richardson. Curtis had a different hot take on her former co-star's potential relationship.

During an interview with VT to promote her new film, Freakier Friday, Curtis was asked about Neeson and Anderson dating. The actress was asked a pop culture question, and the new couple was the answer.

"They've hard-launched," she said to answer the question, before sharing a strongly worded message on Anderson and Neeson.

Curtis expressed, "You know what, with all due respect to pop culture, if love has found their way into that relationship, God bless them both! Leave them the f—k alone and let them like each other because both of them have had hardship, and they're both beautiful humans, makes me cry. They're beautiful human beings, and if they actually have found an intimate love with each other, we should all go to bed tonight feeling better."

Anderson and Curtis worked together on The Last Showgirl. Curtis gushed over her co-star as a person, while also expressing the heartbreaking loss Neeson endured following Richardson's death.

"So if in fact these people have hard launched, then wish them the best and leave them alone," the actress stated.

Neither Neeson nor Anderson has confirmed they are officially dating. Instead, they have played coy at their press tour for The Naked Gun. Their silence has only gotten fans more hyped as their chemistry is off the charts.

Freakier Friday hits theaters on Friday, August 8. The Naked Gun is in theaters now.

A Purdue University student from South Korea has been freed from federal detention, tearfully reuniting with her family and religious community in Manhattan following days of outcry from faith leaders in New York and abroad.

Yeonsoo Go, 20, was taken into custody on Thursday during a routine immigration hearing in Manhattan, according to her attorneys and family. She was then transferred to a federal detention facility in Monroe, Louisiana, where she was held for three nights before being released without bail on Monday.

Mary Rothwell Davis, an attorney for the Episcopal Diocese of New York, where Go's mother works as a priest, said the family had not received an explanation for the arrest or abrupt reversal.

"We don't know why it happened, but we're very happy that it did," Davis said. "We were moving heaven and earth to make it known that we thought this was a mistake."

A spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security said Go had been placed in expedited removal proceedings for overstaying an expired visa. The agency did not respond to questions about what prompted Go's release.

"The fact of the matter is those who are in our country illegally have a choice — they can leave the country voluntarily or be arrested and deported," agency spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement.

But Davis disputed the contention that Go was here illegally. She said Go has maintained a valid visa since arriving in the U.S. in 2021, along with her mother, Rev. Kyrie Kim, who leads a Korean congregation in the New York area.

A graduate of Scarsdale High School in the suburbs of New York City, Go studies at Purdue's College of Pharmacy and remains active in the Episcopalian church, according to Davis.

In recent days, clergy members, including Bishop Matthew Heyd, as well as the church leaders in Korea, have called on the Trump administration to release Go, insisting that her arrest was a mistake.

"Whether it was our outcry or some other factor that persuaded DHS to send her home, we don't know, but we're so grateful," Davis said, adding that Go's experience in detention was "unbelievably traumatic."

New York State Assemblymember Amy Paulin, a Democrat, said she had spoken by phone with Go, who she described as "relieved" to be home.

"She is home, she is safe, and she is so grateful for the outpouring of love and support from this incredible community," Paulin said.

Search and rescue volunteers are battling bad weather and heavy rainfall in a search for an American journalist who went missing while hiking in a Norwegian national park.

Alec Luhn, a climate journalist from Wisconsin, is an experienced hiker who has completed a number of solo trips in challenging conditions. He was reported missing by his wife Veronika Silchenko on Monday, after he failed to board his flight home.

Silchenko told CNN she last spoke to Luhn on Thursday, as he was setting off on his hike in the Folgefonna National Park in southwest Norway.

"We exchanged a few texts. He told me that he is going to hike and sent me a picture. He looked fine, the weather was fine," she said. That was the last she heard from him.

Silchenko said that while she is always "a bit worried" when Luhn is out hiking, she was also aware that phone signals could be patchy in the wilderness and she did not become overly concerned until days later.

"I started to worry slightly on Sunday, but then I thought that it's Norway and it's totally normal to be out of connection in the mountains, so I (decided to) wait and … do something if he's not back online on Monday," she told CNN in a phone interview. "On Monday, we decided that we need to call the services, because he should have gotten out of the park by that time and probably would have been able to find the internet. So we started really panicking."

The Norwegian Red Cross said on X that a search operation that began on Monday was expanded on Tuesday. It said volunteers and search and rescue dogs were involved.

Ingeborg Thorsland, a spokesperson for the Norwegian Red Cross, told CNN that the operation spanned a large area and that heavy rainfall had made navigation difficult.

"Around 30 volunteers from the Red Cross and other organizations have participated in the operation. The search teams are local and familiar with the terrain, which has proven to be particularly challenging due to difficult conditions and demanding weather," she said.

Drones had also been used, when weather permitted, she said, and an alpine rescue group was also assisting the search.

CNN has asked the Norwegian police for comment.

Luhn, 38, has worked for outlets including National Geographic, The Guardian, The New York Times and The Atlantic. He is currently based in London, after living in Moscow and Istanbul.

"He is a very kind and loving human being. He loves nature. He dedicated his career to writing about climate change and especially the ice and the Arctic," Silchenko told CNN.

"He's very strong and adventurous, and he (is not) a fool. Alec is my favorite person in the world, and I miss him a lot. I would like him to be back as soon as possible," she said.

The Dallas Cowboys have released their first unofficial depth chart of the 2025 season, and defensive end Micah Parsons is listed as a starter despite his recent trade request and lagging contract negotiations.

Parsons has yet to fully participate in a training camp practice in the two weeks since the team reported to Oxnard, California.

He released a lengthy statement on social media this past Friday, requesting a trade from the Cowboys, who drafted him No. 12 overall in the 2021 draft.

That said, Parsons continued to show up at Cowboys practice Saturday and Monday — the team was off on Sunday — notably wearing his No. 11 jersey Monday while watching his teammates and conversing with defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus as well as vice president of player personnel Will McClay.

While Parsons wrote, "I no longer want to be here," in a trade-request statement he captioned, "Thank you Dallas," on X, the Cowboys aren't looking to trade their premier edge rusher.

First-year head coach Brian Schottenheimer is planning to have the four-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro available for Dallas' Sept. 4 opener at the Philadelphia Eagles.

"We're still planning on moving Micah around and putting him in all the spots that we see him and using our fronts the way we want to see it," Schottenheimer said. "We go about our business every day. We live in the moment. We focus in the moment. And again, like I said, I talked to you guys the other day, not going to get a lot into it.

"But I expect Micah to be here."

Parsons is in the fifth-year option of his rookie deal with the Cowboys. He won NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2021, the first of his four seasons with 12-plus sacks since entering the league.

The Penn State product has piled up 52.5 sacks, 256 total tackles, 112 quarterback hits and nine forced fumbles in 63 regular-season games.

Francisco VelasquezAugust 6, 2025 at 1:16 AM

Starbucks (SBUX) may soon have to hike prices on its pumpkin spice lattes and bottled Frappuccinos.

The coffee giant is facing cost pressure from the 50% tariff on Brazilian coffee imports, which takes effect on Aug. 6. Brazil is the largest coffee exporter to the US.

Tariffs will increase Starbucks' cost of goods, particularly for its ready-to-drink (RTD) beverages and packaged beans division. Annual costs in the division could increase by 3.5%, resulting in a $0.02 earnings per share impact, according to a note by TD Cowen analyst Andrew Charles.

The company's margins are already under pressure. In its latest quarter, operating margin fell sharply to 13.3% from 21% a year ago. Its US same-store sales declined for the sixth consecutive quarter.

Revenue in the quarter climbed 4% year over year to $9.5 billion, beating Wall Street's forecast of $9.3 billion. However, adjusted earnings per share of $0.50 fell far short of the expected $0.65.

Its stock has traded slightly lower since its earnings report last week. Year to date, Starbucks shares are down 1%, compared to the S&P 500's (^GSPC) 8% advance.

Starbucks has said it will keep prices steady at least through fiscal 2025. But CEO Brian Niccol has not ruled out the possibility of raising prices.

"We'll be smart about how we go about increasing any of those prices," Niccol said on Yahoo Finance's Opening Bid after the earnings report.

Food giants like Keurig Dr Pepper (KDP) and J.M. Smucker (SJM) have already begun issuing higher prices to offset rising coffee expenses. As costs climb, it may become increasingly difficult for Starbucks to hold out.

Raising prices comes with its own risks. Michael Gunther, head of research at Consumer Edge, told Yahoo Finance that Starbucks has been losing market share among 18-to-34-year-olds, a demographic especially sensitive to price hikes. The company needs to remain competitive with fast-growing rivals like Luckin Coffee, he noted.

To mitigate the impact, Starbucks is expanding its supply chain and investing more in Central American coffee farms, which it began doing late last year. A Starbucks spokesperson confirmed to Yahoo Finance that the company sources its arabica coffee from 30 countries globally. TD Cowen estimates Brazilian beans make up 22% of Starbucks' coffee costs in North America.

Tariffs are expected to affect the wider US coffee sector, fueling 15% to 20% price hikes in ground coffee at a retail level, according to Bernstein analyst Danilo Gargiulo.

Gargiulo told Yahoo Finance that Starbucks' hedging strategy may serve as a safeguard against tariffs. Hedging allows companies to secure prices in advance and manage future spending, even when market conditions become volatile.

A global reorientation is already underway, Gargiulo noted, with US importers pivoting toward alternative suppliers such as Vietnam and Colombia.

"There is zero doubt that they [Starbucks] are working hard to figure out how much supply they can shift, but it's a challenging task," Duane Stanford, editor at Beverage Digest, told Yahoo Finance. These sourcing shifts offer only limited protection because restructuring supply chains takes time and capacity is constrained. Other coffee-producing countries like Vietnam also face tariffs, albeit lower than Brazil's.

The Trump administration's constant changes further complicate the matter. "The company has to decide how much effort to put into these alternatives without knowing whether the tariffs will remain in place," Stanford said.

Rising Tariffs Undercut Caterpillar's Q2 Performance Even As Order Backlog Swells By $2.5 Billion

Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE:CAT) reported second-quarter 2025 revenue of $16.569 billion, down 1 percent from $16.689 billion a year earlier, beating the analyst consensus of $16.17 billion.

The adjusted earnings per share of $4.72 missed the $4.90 estimate. GAAP earnings per share were $4.62, compared with $5.48 in the prior-year period.

GAAP operating profit was $2.860 billion, representing a 17.3% margin, a decrease of $622 million, or 18% YoY, compared with $3.482 billion. This was primarily due to unfavorable manufacturing costs, which the company repeatedly said "largely reflected the impact of higher tariffs.". Adjusted operating profit was $2.916 billion, with a 17.6% margin, down from 22.4% a year ago.

Enterprise operating cash flow was $3.1 billion for the quarter. Machinery, Energy & Transportation (ME&T) free cash flow was $1.5 billion. The company ended the quarter with $5.4 billion in enterprise cash. During the period, Caterpillar repurchased $800 million of common stock and paid $700 million in dividends.

Construction Industries posted sales of $6.190 billion, down 7% from $6.683 billion a year ago. Segment profit declined 29% to $1.244 billion, and the segment margin fell to 20.1% from 26.1%.

Management attributed the margin pressure to unfavorable price realization and "unfavorable manufacturing costs largely reflected the impact of higher tariffs."

Resource Industries reported sales of $3.087 billion, a 4% decrease year-over-year. Segment profit fell 25% to $537 million. The company again cited "unfavorable manufacturing costs largely reflected the impact of higher tariffs" as a key driver of the profit decline.

Energy & Transportation generated $7.836 billion in sales, up 7% from $7.337 billion in the prior-year quarter. Segment profit rose 4% to $1.585 billion, though the margin declined slightly to 20.2%. Higher manufacturing costs due to tariffs contributed to the margin compression.

Financial Products revenue rose 4% to $1.042 billion. Segment profit increased 9% to $248 million, driven by higher average earning assets and gains on equity securities, partially offset by increased provision for credit losses.

Geographically, North America sales declined about 2 percent to approximately $8.9 billion, while Latin America revenue fell 4 percent. In contrast, EAME (Europe, Africa, Middle East) posted a 6 percent increase in regional sales, and Asia Pacific posted flat or unchanged revenue versus the prior-year quarter.

Caterpillar said the order backlog increased by approximately $2.5 billion during the quarter across all primary segments.

Outlook

The company expects Q3 2025 incremental tariff costs to range between $400 million and $500 million. For the full year, it estimates net incremental tariff costs of $1.3 billion to $1.5 billion.

Caterpillar anticipates full-year sales to be slightly higher than 2024 and expects ME&T free cash flow to be around the middle of its $5 billion to $10 billion targeted range.

It reaffirmed that full-year adjusted operating profit margin is expected to be in the top half of the targeted range, excluding tariffs, and in the bottom half, including tariffs.

In the conference call, the company stated, "Including the net impact from incremental tariffs, we expect third quarter enterprise adjusted operating profit margin to be lower versus the prior year."

Price Action: At the last check on Tuesday, CAT shares were trading higher by 0.21% at $434.63.
