Christina Applegate was admitted to the hospital over the weekend after suffering excruciating pain while on a European vacation.

The "Married… With Children" actress insisted that "things are messy, but I'm going to be OK," while chatting on a live episode of her "MeSsy" podcast with co-host Jamie-Lynn Sigler.

Applegate, 53, began feeling discomfort while overseas, and initially believed she was experiencing symptoms related to appendicitis.

Christina Applegate needed immediate medical attention after experiencing excruciating pain.

"I went to Europe to see family, and I was not feeling good the whole time I was there," she admitted on the episode. "I did everything I could to not throw up."

The "Dead to Me" star hyped herself up to go to the hospital when she returned home, as she had experienced difficulties throughout her multiple sclerosis journey.

"I'm going to go, and I'm not leaving there until I have some f------ answers," she recalled. "I want to know why this is happening, and I want it to stop."

Applegate added, "The universe works in a really beautiful way. It listens to you — it really does. It also doesn't give a s--- if you say you want something, or you don't want something."

The "Married... With Children" actress revealed her multiple sclerosis diagnosis in 2021.

After arriving back in Los Angeles, Applegate went to the hospital and demanded "every test" to see what was wrong. By the following day, she started getting a pain that she had never felt before on the right side of her back.

"I'm like screaming, and they ordered me an emergency CT at 2 o'clock in the morning… and I had kidney infections," Applegate said. "I've been here for a long time."

Sigler noted how "it could have been so much worse," and commended Applegate for instinctively knowing she had to seek medical attention.

"It is the worst pain I've ever felt, or so I thought, is my stomach when I'm vomitting. I call it 'Fight Club' because the entire abdomen spasms, and it is excruciating," she said.

"I'm just gonna be here," she said of her hospital stay before explaining, "Because of this kidney infection, I have to have intravenous antibiotics right now. And that's where we're at."

Despite cracking a few jokes about the situation, Applegate admitted she was holding in tears.

Applegate has been honest about living with MS since receiving her diagnosis in June 2021.

"I sometimes fall into the nurse's arms like a freako, just like crying," she admitted.

During an episode released earlier this year, Applegate revealed she's been hospitalized upwards of 30 times due to her MS symptoms.

"For three years, since I was diagnosed, I've been in the hospital upwards of 30 times from throwing up and diarrhea and pain," she said. "That is unimaginable, OK? They've done every test known to man on me, put so much radiation into my body from CT scans to everything else."

"One of the things with MS is that it slows down our organs, you know, not like completely, but there is a slowing of the function of your organs. I have noticed that — and I'm going to be really honest — if I have to poop, I puke."

"My neuro doesn't — God bless her — says that's not an MS thing," Applegate added. "So, I'm sorry, there's got to be a correlation here, and I'm not a doctor. I'm not giving medical advice. I'm just saying, just think about that, OK? Because I'm in the middle of the same exact situation, and it f------ sucks, and it's scary."

Applegate has one daughter, Sadie, with husband Martyn LeNoble.

Applegate revealed her diagnosis on X in 2021.

"Hi friends. A few months ago I was diagnosed with MS," she wrote.

"It's been a strange journey. But I have been so supported by people that I know who also have this condition," Applegate continued. "It's been a tough road. But as we all know, the road keeps going. Unless some a--hole blocks it."

We're well into training camp across the NFL as all 32 franchises get into the latest stage of offseason preparations for the 2025 NFL season.

This mandatory portion of offseason training gives coaching staffs across the league a chance to gauge their in-house talent. Roster cuts are still weeks away as teams will eventually whittle their active rosters down to 53 players.

As these offseason activities continue, teams may look elsewhere for an infusion of talent. That can be due to personnel not playing up to expectation or bad injury luck.

New class in Cleveland: The Browns had dramatic 2025 draft. How does rookie class look?

Worst to first? Ranking 8 NFL teams' chances to jump to top of division in 2025

There are still some viable options on the free agent market at multiple positions. Quarterback is the glaring exception; Aaron Rodgers finally putting pen to paper and signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers took the top veteran off the market.

But if teams are looking for help, especially in the second level of the defense, there are solid options to bolster their roster.

The next Bus? Jerome Bettis is a Hall of Famer. His son is following in Papa Bus' footsteps

Here are the top 10 remaining free agents as minicamps continue across the NFL — plus three potential fits for each one:

Top 10 remaining free agents1. DT Christian Wilkins

The Las Vegas Raiders released Wilkins just one season into a four-year contract he signed last offseason. He's recovering from a serious foot injury but still has plenty of value even as he reaches his age-30 season.

There are some questions about his exit from Las Vegas and the Raiders will attempt to recoup some guarantees from his big-money contract. As he's getting back to full health, he may be best suited for a rotational role but could be an impact player on a per-snap basis. That will make him intriguing for many contenders or teams looking to shore up the interior line depth on defense.

Potential fits: Los Angeles Chargers, Carolina Panthers and San Francisco 49ers

2. WR Amari Cooper

Cooper is entering his age-31 season but never built his game on speed. A mid-season trade brought him to Buffalo last year and he played well before a lingering wrist injury derailed his production.

At this stage of his career, he can be a solid possession option on a team looking for a proven commodity in the receiver room. Just as the Bills did when trading for him last season, a contender could look to the five-time Pro Bowler to safeguard against injuries.

Potential fits: Pittsburgh Steelers, Las Vegas Raiders and Carolina Panthers

3. CB Asante Samuel Jr.

Samuel Jr. played just four games in 2024 before heading to injured reserve with a shoulder injury. Prior to that, he was a productive nickel cornerback with 35 passes defensed and six interceptions combined through his first three seasons.

The main reason Samuel Jr. is not currently signed to a roster is medical concerns. He underwent neck surgery in April and will get a check up in July.

If healthy, Samuel Jr. is a no-brainer to bring on board. He's entering his age-26 season, far from the common cornerback drop-off, and can be an above-average starter at nickel.

Potential fits: Miami Dolphins, Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints

4. S Justin Simmons

Despite making the All-Pro second-team roster every year from 2021 to 2023, the Denver Broncos opted against re-signing Simmons last offseason. He ended up in Atlanta on a one-year deal and played well enough to have a role in 2025.

He's entering his age-32 season but is far from a liability in coverage or run defense. A team with questions at safety could do much worse than a one-year deal for Simmons. He could be ideal for a team facing injuries at one safety spot or relying on young players to make a leap.

Potential fits: Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs

5. WR Gabe Davis

Davis struggled along with the rest of the Jacksonville Jaguars' offense last season before a torn meniscus ended his season. He's entering his age-26 season and, if fully healthy, could be a productive player for many teams.

He's not going to be a primary pass-catcher in an offense but a No. 2 or No. 3 receiver role could be a good fit. Given his speed, he could help open things up for other weapons in the offense. Teams with

Potential fits: Las Vegas Raiders, New York Giants and Arizona Cardinals

6. LB Kyzir White

If you're curious the impact White had in Arizona, look no further than Cardinals' defensive coordinator Devin Rallis giving his youngest child the middle name Kyzir in White's honor. White's bounced around first with the Chargers before spending the 2022 season in Philadelphia and following former Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon to Arizona in 2023 and 2024.

He finished second on the team in total tackles with 137 and had a career-high 2.5 sacks. Pro Football Focus' grades point to a linebacker that's better against the run than pass; White finished 50th among qualifying 189 linebackers in run defense but 174th in coverage.

Teams looking for depth at the position or a run-stuffing linebacker for early downs should give White a look.

Potential fits: Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams

7. Edge Za'Darius Smith

Smith may be entering his age-33 season but he just had nine sacks in 2024 for the Browns and Lions. He's a big, strong pocket-pushing edge presence and that's reflected beyond the traditional stats. PFF graded Smith 21st out of 211 qualifying edge rushers in pass rush and 33rd overall.

Given his age, he may be most effective in a rotational role. That's ideal for a contender looking to add another experienced player to the edge rusher rotation who can provide great per-snap results. Smith's played that role before most recently with Detroit but also in 2022 with the Minnesota Vikings.

Potential fits: Washington Commanders, Buffalo Bills and Tampa Bay Buccaneers

8. CB Stephon Gilmore

Gilmore is far from his Defensive Player of the Year heights from 2019. At 34 years old, he'd be one of the older cornerbacks in the NFL in 2025.

He spent the 2024 season in Minnesota and started 15 games for the Vikings. He was solid in that role with nine passes defensed and one interception. PFF ranked him 93rd out of 222 qualifying cornerbacks for his on-field performance. He was better by their grading as a run defender (28th out of 222) than in coverage (118th). Teams could do a lot worse for an injury replacement than him.

Potential fits: Las Vegas Raiders, Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Rams

9. CB Rasul Douglas

Another veteran cornerback still on the market, Douglas started 15 games for the Bills in 2024 and posted five passes defensed and a forced fumble. He's entering his age-30 season with stops in Philadelphia, Carolina and Green Bay prior to Buffalo.

He didn't grade out as well on PFF as Gilmore did in 2024. He ranked 133rd among qualifying cornerbacks overall and 128th in coverage. He's likely still a good depth piece for teams loading up for a postseason run but may not be on the level to take a starting job in 2025.

Potential fits: Minnesota Vikings, Washington Commanders and Los Angeles Chargers

10. G Brandon Scherff

Scherff is entering his age-34 season but hasn't missed a game in the last three years. He started all 17 games for the Jaguars in 2022-24 and was a solid starter last year, especially in pass protection. Pro Football Focus graded him 19th out of 136 qualifying guards league-wide in pass blocking compared to 97th in run blocking.

His durability and statistics should make him a good option for a team that has questions on the interior. A team with playoff aspirations could do much worse than signing him on as insurance in case of an ill-timed injury. He could also offer help up front for a team with a young or new quarterback who needs to be protected as much as possible.

Potential fits: Houston Texans, Washington Commanders and Seattle Seahawks

Nate who? Anne Hathaway's Andy Sachs has a new leading man in her life.

On Tuesday, Aug. 5, the actress, 42, was spotted on the set of The Devil Wears Prada 2 with her new costar Patrick Brammall in Brooklyn, N.Y.

The pair, who are playing love interests in the upcoming sequel of the 2006 classic, appeared deep in character as they locked hands and walked the streets of New York.

Hathaway, who is reprising her role of Andy, had a big grin on her face as she sported a shiny blue dress with matching eyeshadow and wore her hair down in loose waves with a middle part.

New to the cast, Brammall, 49, wore a tailored navy blue suit with a light blue dress shirt as he embraced his leading lady.

The two were also snapped laughing together and sharing a sweet hug, with Brammall twirling Hathaway around.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly in 2021, Grenier revealed he was surprised when fans branded his character as the true villain of the movie.

"All those memes that came out were shocking to me," he said at the time. "It hadn't occurred to me until I started to really think about it ... in many ways he's very selfish and self-involved, it was all about him, he wasn't extending himself to support Andy in her career."

In addition to Hathaway, Streep, 76, Emily Blunt (Emily Charlton), and Stanley Tucci (Nigel) will be returning for the highly-anticipated sequel.

The new movie will follow Priestly "as she navigates her career amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing and as she faces off against Blunt's character, now a high-powered executive for a luxury group with advertising dollars that Priestly desperately needs," according to Variety.

Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham appeared to be hit by a projectile sex toy during Tuesday night's game vs. the Los Angeles Sparks. The incident came in the final minutes of the second quarter as the Fever prepared to inbound the ball.

It is the third instance of a green sex toy being hurled onto a WNBA court in the past few weeks, in what has become a growing trend. The first came in a game in Atlanta on July 29, and it happened again in Chicago on Aug. 1.

Now, the latest incident has also made Cunningham the victim on the same day that she publicly lamented the idea of a player being hit by said object.

During Tuesday's episode of her podcast, Cunningham addressed the issue of the objects being hurled onto courts, and speculated what the fallout would look like if a player were hit by one.

"I just know how things go viral now, and I just know if that thing like even came from like the rafters or bows and just slap me right in the face, I could never, I could, that would be what I'd be known for life," Cunningham said. "And yeah, it could break a f---in nose."

Cunningham said her mom even told her to beware of the possibility of being hit by such an object.

"My mom, she goes, instead of like my good luck text, she goes 'watch out for flying d-ldos tonight,'" Cunningham said.

To make matters worse for Cunningham and her team, the Fever lost to the Sparks 100-91.

Cunningham previously sent a post on X Friday telling fans to end the charade.

"Stop throwing dildos on the court… you're going to hurt one of us," she wrote.

Cunningham made light of the situation by resharing that post after Tuesday's game with the message, "This did not age well."

The stunts have even resulted in an arrest. The WNBA announced on Saturday that one of the culprits had been arrested, and there would be further punishments for whoever threw an object onto the playing surface.

A 23-year-old is facing charges of disorderly conduct, public indecency/indecent exposure, and criminal trespass for hurling one of the items onto a court last week.

Sophie Cunningham of the Indiana Fever looks on during the game against the Los Angeles Sparks at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on June 26, 2025 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Delbert Carver was booked into Clayton County jail in Georgia on Saturday for the stunt last Tuesday. Carver's case, according to information online, is currently "pending." He was released from jail late Sunday on bond.

"The safety and well-being of everyone in our arenas is a top priority for our league. Objects of any kind thrown onto the court or in the seating area can pose a safety risk for players, game officials, and fans," the WNBA said in a statement.

"In line with WNBA Arena Security Standards, any fan who intentionally throws an object onto the court will be immediately ejected and face a minimum one-year ban in addition to being subject to arrest and prosecution by local authorities."

- - NFL worst to first: Ranking last-place teams chances of winning their division in 2025

Nick Brinkerhoff, USA TODAYAugust 6, 2025 at 8:01 PM

The basement can be a cold, dark and lonely place that is also forgotten.

Luckily for the NFL teams stuck at the bottom, they are given the opportunity to move up. They are awarded a higher draft pick and sometimes have more money to spend thanks to a roster that isn't loaded with as much talent. They are given an easier schedule, on paper, since they match up against other last-place teams.

The NFL wants those teams to compete. After all, it's good for business.

For the first time since 2019, an NFL team didn't go from worst to first in 2024. Here is our ranking of the last-place finishers from 2024 and how likely they are to accomplish that feat in 2025.

Ranking NFL teams with best chance to go worst to first9. New York Giants

The bottom of the list is a crowded place of mediocrity. While the Giants could easily surprise – and they certainly have the talent for it – the path to winning the NFC East is about as tough as it gets this year. Barring something catastrophic to one of the three teams in front of them, it seems almost impossible that the Giants get out of the basement in 2025.

Already armed with the toughest schedule, per Sharp Football Analysis, there are far more questions than answers for Big Blue. Will Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen last through the season? Will Russell Wilson be the starting quarterback or will Jaxson Dart take over at some point?

There are reasons for Giants fans to be optimistic given their young core. That doesn't mean they're ready to get through the Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Commanders and Dallas Cowboys.

8. Cleveland Browns

Cleveland was close to stealing the bottom spot from New York here, but wins out in a division that has a little more uncertainty. Outside of Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens, the AFC North is littered with questions. What will Aaron Rodgers bring to the Pittsburgh Steelers? Can the Cincinnati Bengals finally figure it out?

The Browns have a roster that requires plenty of work before they can truly make some noise. However, a young running back room and Myles Garrett wreaking havoc on defense could be the recipe for controlling the clock and stealing some wins. Still, don't hold your breath.

7. Las Vegas Raiders

Pete Carroll and Geno Smith are bringing a piece of Seattle with them to the desert, yet they face an uphill climb in a loaded AFC West. Ashton Jeanty can easily transform an offense that also features Brock Bowers, but to expect the four-win Raiders to dethrone the Kansas City Chiefs while leapfrogging the Los Angeles Chargers and Denver Broncos is a bridge too far.

The schedule is also unforgiving with matchups against the NFC East on tap, so don't expect a soft launch for the silver-and-black. Vegas is trending up, but not up enough.

6. New Orleans Saints

New Orleans might be one of the worst teams in the NFL next season, which should've put them closer to the bottom of this list. However, they benefit from playing in the NFC South – a division that is far from a juggernaut. Barring a surprising rookie year from Tyler Shough, the Saints will likely finish in the same spot next year.

There is talent on this team though. The offense still features Alvin Kamara and a solid trio of receivers with Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed and Brandin Cooks. With Kellen Moore taking over the head coaching job, perhaps he can get the Saints on the right path. Bottom line, unless the rest of the division falls apart, they won't be NFC South champions this year.

5. Tennessee Titans

What should we make of Cam Ward? He's flown under the radar throughout the draft and the offseason, quietly working in the shadows ahead of his rookie season. All eyes have instead been on Shedeur Sanders with the Browns, allowing Ward that freedom to be shielded from the media spotlight.

And just like the NFC South, the AFC's version won't be flush with wins in 2025. C.J. Stroud is already dealing with a shoulder injury in Houston and now Anthony Richardson is battling Daniel Jones for the starting quarterback job in Indianapolis.. That leaves Trevor Lawrence in Jacksonville, who is coming off a shoulder injury that ended his 2024 season.

Ward will hope to avoid that trend amongst AFC South quarterbacks. His Titans might not possess the talent to compete with those other teams on paper, but the door is open if things break right and the rookie performs as advertised in Tennessee.

4. New England Patriots

Jerod Mayo is out and Mike Vrabel is in as the Patriots look to author a new chapter in 2025. The first season in the post-Bill Belichick era was certainly a culture shock in the New England area, but it didn't come without hope for the future.

While Jacoby Brissett enjoyed the starting quarterback spot for longer than he should've, Drake Maye proved that there is reason to believe in the young signal caller. Now with Vrabel taking over to stabilize a young squad, the Patriots are ready to turn the corner after a short stay in NFL irrelevance.

A lot would have to go right for the Patriots to dethrone the Buffalo Bills, but this crop of last-place finishers doesn't exactly inspire a lot of confidence heading into 2025. The Patriots feel like they're a year away from being competitive. Perhaps we'll be saying they were right on time if things break right.

3. Carolina Panthers

If you want to be technical, the Panthers finished third in the NFC South. However, they did tie with the Saints for last place at 5-12 and that qualifies them for this list. Another year of improvement from Bryce Young and a second season under Dave Canales is more than enough to give the Panthers a chance in what profiles as a weak division.

That weak division can lead to some shocking results, especially if Carolina's young core takes a big step forward. The defense may hold them back, but we aren't ready to rule out some funny business in the southern states.

2. Chicago Bears

The Bears have rid themselves of a disastrous coaching staff and loaded up on talent, hoping that better days lie ahead. Ben Johnson has seemingly pushed all the right buttons in the Windy City since being hired as the head coach and he's the reason why the Bears could take a drastic leap forward in 2025.

His hiring weakened the division rival Detroit Lions as the revolving door keeps turning out of the Motor City. The Lions are poised for a step back next season and the Minnesota Vikings are featuring J.J. McCarthy, who missed his entire rookie season with a knee injury. The Green Bay Packers are consistent, but the Bears were 5-12 as a dumpster fire last season.

It won't take a 10-win improvement to catch this year's Lions and talent hasn't been the question in Chicago. A second-year leap from Caleb Williams could be all it takes to put the Bears back in the conversation as NFC North contenders.

1. San Francisco 49ers

Injuries and more derailed the 49ers in 2024, but they are back and loaded for another potential postseason run. Brock Purdy got his contract extension, George Kittle was also taken care of and Robert Saleh has returned as defensive coordinator.

In many ways, San Francisco is getting the band back together and this team will go as far as Christian McCaffrey takes them. Concerns surrounding his injuries can easily hold them back, but it's easy to forget that they were a Super Bowl runner-up two years ago.

Outside of the Los Angeles Rams, the competition in the division remains uninspiring. After finishing in last place at 6-10 in the NFC West, San Francisco not only has the easiest schedule in the league, but they also stand the best chance of flipping the script in 2025.

MONTREAL, Canada (AP) — Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina has spoken out about the deluge of hateful abuse she received online from frustrated gamblers after losing a match in Canada, including messages wishing her death and celebrating Russia killing her compatriots.

Following her straight-sets loss to Naomi Osaka in the quarter-finals of the National Bank Open on Tuesday night, Svitolina posted screenshots of the messages on Instagram.

The abuse was directed at her, while other racial slurs also targeted her husband, the French tennis player Gael Monfils, who is Black. One abuser hoped that Russia "kills all you (expletive) Ukrainians" in the war raging in Svitolina's country.

"To all the bettors: I'm a mum before I'm an athlete," Svitolina wrote in her Instagram story. "The way you talk to women — to mothers — is SHAMEFUL. If your mothers saw your messages, they'd be disgusted."

Earlier this year, British player Katie Boulter said she received death threats during the French Open targeting her and her family, while the WTA and ITF called on betting companies to do more to stem the flood of online abuse players face on social media.

Boulter told the BBC in an interview that online abuse has become the norm and that she thinks many of the messages are sent by people who are placing bets on tennis matches.

Her comments coincided with the WTA and ITF publishing a first season-wide report into online abuse, showing that 458 tennis players were targeted by more than 8,000 abusive comments and posts on social media in 2024. The report said 40% of the abuse came from "angry gamblers."

Millions of Americans are at risk of flooding from excessive rainfall and stormy weather over the next few days across parts of the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic, forecasters said.

A front lingering in the Gulf Coast will bring thunderstorms and showers to the Southeast and southern Mid-Atlantic states on Aug. 6 and through the end of the week, the National Weather Service said. More than 11 million people were under flood watches across large parts of North Carolina and Georgia the morning of Aug. 6.

Tropical moisture coming from a disturbance several hundred miles off the coast was causing showers and thunderstorms, which could pose an even greater risk to the coastal Southeast if it forms into a cyclone, hurricane forecasters said. As of mid-week, it had a 10% chance of development within 48 hours and a 40% chance within a week.

Since Aug. 4, a zone from southwestern Georgia through central North Carolina has already received 2 to 6 inches of rain since the start of the week, according to AccuWeather. An additional 2 to 4 inches could fall Aug. 6, the outlet said, risking flooding from already swollen rivers and streams.

"Persistently heavy rain could severely disrupt transportation and logistics networks. Flooded underpasses, debris-blocked roads and washed-out rural routes are likely, particularly where drainage is poor and rainbands stall," AccuWeather said in a news release.

Metro areas at risk through the evening include Raleigh, Greensboro and Fayetteville, North Carolina; and Florence and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, AccuWeather reported.

Rainy, stormy weather across much of US

Forecasters said several regions across the country are in the path of storms and showers this week, including a region at risk for severe thunderstorms, large hail and damaging winds in the Northern and Central Plains and upper Mississippi Valley later in the week. There is also a chance of tornadoes, the national Weather Service said.

By the afternoon of Aug. 8, the Storm Prediction Center said a cluster of strong to severe thunderstorms would move across the Dakotas and into Minnesota with hail over 2 inches in diameter.

More showers and severe thunderstorms are expected across a large stretch of the country from the Great Lakes region through the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic and southward to the Gulf Coast on Aug. 7.

Dangerous heat, fire weather in the West

Extreme heat is settling in the Southwest, with over 7 million people in Southern California and Arizona under extreme heat warnings on Aug. 6. Heat advisories also included parts of New Mexico and Texas, the weather service said. Heat-related illnesses are a big threat as temperatures reach highs in the mid-110s for the rest of the week.

"As temperatures rise, limit outdoor activity, stay hydrated, and ensure access to air-conditioning and other cooling areas," the weather service said.

Parts of Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming and Idaho are all under red flag warnings as conditions are favorable for fires to break out with low humidity and wind, the weather service said. Any new fire could spread rapidly.
