'It Seemed Normal In My Mind': Demi Lovato And Keke Palmer Reflect On Dating Adult Men As Teens

Demi Lovato and Keke Palmer are reflecting on dating adult men as teenagers while facing "a lot of pressure" and struggles as young actors on networks like Disney Channel and Nickelodeon.

On Tuesday's episode of "Baby, This is Keke Palmer," the two stars opened up about their experiences while discussing the stress they went through helming major shows like Lovato's "Sonny With A Chance" and Palmer's "True Jackson, VP" as teens.

"It was really challenging. There wasn't a lot of time for play, but when I did, I played pretty hard," Lovato said after getting candid about "self-medicating" during the arduous time.

"I mean, that's very [expletive]," Palmer replied. "I know we don't want any of the drama of it, but I feel like people don't understand that that's what we was dealing with. You know, I found myself dating —  I'm 15. Why is my boyfriend 20?"

Lovato interjected, "Uh, why was my boyfriend 30? You know what I'm saying?"

"Girl! ****!" Palmer exclaimed. "That is real. We was trying to find outlets, though. A way to process."

Both the "Heart Attack" singer, now 33, and Palmer, now 32, went on to lament that "nobody our age could understand" at the time the intricacies of what they and other teen stars were dealing with in the spotlight.

"But then when you look back in hindsight — when I turned 30, I was like, 'That's not OK,'" Lovato added.

The "One of Them Days" leading lady told Lovato that it wasn't until she reached the age of the adults she used to associate with that she realized she was being exploited.

"The moment when you realize and you get the age that a lot of people that were around you and doing stuff, it's almost a mental break that can happen," she shared. "Because you realize: 'You were taking advantage of [me]. Oh, I was being exploited.' That was very difficult for me."

Palmer recalled making sense of the age gap in her early relationship because of the nature of her job.

"At 15, I'm thinking, 'My boyfriend's older because I'm doing an older job. And I'm doing a bunch of things, and this is the way that it is,'" she explained. "And it seemed normal in my mind."

Lovato interjected to add: "Especially if you're an older soul, too. Especially if you're mature for your age."

Palmer then praised former Disney star Hilary Duff for releasing the vulnerable tune "Mature," in which she reflected on an inappropriate relationship she had with an older man during her youth.

"It's like, 'Oh, ****, we all had the same **** life,'" Palmer said. "Where people kept telling us, 'You're so mature for your age.'"

Lovato gushed over Duff's song before sharing that she released something similar. "I also wrote a song about that. It's called '29,′ and when you listen to it, I think you'll be able to relate to it."

State Department scrambles to help Americans stranded in Middle East war zone

The U.S. State Department on Tuesday scrambled to assist thousands of stranded Americans in the Middle East trying to evacuate the region after the U.S. and Israel jointly launched an operation targeting Iran over the weekend.

ABC News

Now four days after the war began, the Trump administration is facing fierce criticism for not having a plan in place to evacuate Americans in harms way in advance of the joint operation.

The State Department on Monday urged Americans to depart from 14 countries in the region using commercial means, but there are currently significant disruptions in air travel.

The Associated Press - Trump US Germany

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office on Tuesday, Trump said: "It all happened very quickly," referring to the war with Iran, when asked why there were no plans to evacuate U.S. citizens.

Multiple U.S. embassies had said they are unable to help citizens trying to leave but the State Department on Tuesday sent out a new alert for Americans in Israel, the West Bank and Gaza, saying, "The U.S. government is ready to help Americans return home safely from the Middle East if you choose to take advantage of the options available."

Later on Tuesday, a fire broke out at the U.S. consulate in Dubai after an Iranian drone struck an adjacent parking lot, according to Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

"Our embassies and our diplomatic facilities are under direct attack from a terroristic regime," Rubio told reporters at the Capitol.

He confirmed that all personnel were accounted for in the Dubai drone attack, noting the U.S. drawdown of staff across several diplomatic missions in the region has kept its personnel safe.

Rubio was pointedly asked if there was a plan in place to evacuate Americans before the attack took place.

"Well, that's the plan we are trying to carry out," Rubio said.

Iran live updates: US embassies 'under direct attack,' Rubio says

"The problem is, or the challenge we are facing, is airspace closures," he added. "If a country closes their airport, for example, in some cases the airports have been hit."

"So, that's the challenge, but rest assured, we are confident that we are going to be able to assist every American," he said.

Rubio said the department had implemented its plans over the last 72 hours to facilitate Americans' departure -- via charter flights, military flights, and commercial options.

"The impediment we're facing now in many cases, we've had a couple instances in which we have planes in the air and on the way, and unfortunately, the airspace gets closed and they have to turn back around," Rubio said.

The State Department is facing intense scrutiny from several U.S. lawmakers.

"Warnings to citizens to evacuate 3 days into this war, when airspace is closed, is a clear sign of ZERO strategy and planning by the Trump admin," Democratic Senator Andy Kim says in a post on X.

"Now Americans have limited options to evacuate at an extremely dangerous moment with no government assistance. This administration is failing its citizens," Kim added.

"So the State Department is forcing everyone to immediately leave the region but is also refusing to help people leave the region," Democratic Senator Chris Murphy says in an X post. "Incompetence everywhere," he added.

The State Department said it is now "actively securing" military aircraft and charter flights for American citizens who wish to leave the Middle East, an agency spokesman posted on X.

The agency on Tuesday announced it is taking "historic action" to assist stranded American citizens.

State Department call centers have been in touch with almost 3,000 Americans to give personalized advice on options to depart the region, a State Department official said.

The official said the department had briefed 750 congressional staff on the agency's consular support for Americans in the Middle East to help their constituents access our information and support.

In the past several days, over 9,000 American citizens have safely returned from the Middle East, including over 300 from Israel, according to a State Department press release.

The Department said it is facilitating charter flights from the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan for American citizens, and will continue to secure additional capacity as security conditions allow.

Commercial aviation options remain available in Saudi Arabia, UAE, Oman, and Egypt, and the Department is actively helping American citizens book those tickets, the agency said.

For those in countries lacking commercial aviation availability, the agency said it is facilitating travel to third countries as conditions allow. That includes increasing ground transportation options for American citizens wishing to leave Israel.

-/AFP via Getty Images - PHOTO: The U.S. Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, is pictured on March 3, 2026.

The State Department will also waive any statutory requirement for American citizens to reimburse the government for travel expenses, according to the press release.

The secretary said Americans should get in touch via two phone numbers it is sharing: +1-202-501-4444 (from abroad) and +1-888-407-4747 (from the US and Canada).

"Here's the message I want to deliver Americans who are in the Middle East and in need of assistance. It is very important. I ask this of the networks as well. It is important for you to please put both the website and the phone numbers on your screens, because we need people. We need to know where you are," Rubio said.

"It all starts by knowing that where you are and how we can get a hold of you," he said.

A State Department official disputed criticism on X that DOGE cuts potentially played a role in the travel disruptions.

"No overseas State Department positions or employees were affected by the reorganization or any "DOGE" activity," Dylan Johnson, assistant Secretary of State for Global Public Affairs, said.

ABC News' Chris Boccia and Karen Travers contributed to this report.

Iran US Military Deaths

"She was almost home," her husband, Joey Amor, said from their home in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, on Tuesday. "You don't go to Kuwait thinking something's going to happen, and for her to be one of the first – it hurts."

Amor was one of four U.S. soldierskilled in the Iran waron Sunday and identified Tuesday by the Pentagon; two soldiers haven't yet been publicly identified. The members of the Army Reserve worked in logistics and kept troops supplied with food and equipment.

They died just one day after the U.S. and Israel launched its military campaign against Iran. Iranresponded by launching missilesand drones against Israel and several Gulf Arab states that host U.S. armed forces.

Those killed also included Capt. Cody Khork, 35, of Winter Haven, Florida; Sgt. 1st Class Noah Tietjens, 42, of Bellevue, Nebraska; and Sgt. Declan Coady, 20, of West Des Moines, lowa, who was posthumously promoted from specialist. No other names were released.

"These men and women all bravely volunteered to defend our country, and their sacrifice will never be forgotten," Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll said.

All were assigned to the 103rd Sustainment Command, which provides food, fuel, water and ammunition, transport equipment and supplies.

"Sadly, there will likely be more, before it ends. That's the way it is," President Donald Trump said of deaths.

One of the youngest in his class

Coady had just told his father last week that he had been recommended for a promotion from specialist to sergeant, a rank he received posthumously.

He was one of the youngest people in his class but seemed to impress his instructors, his father Andrew Coady said Tuesday.

"He was very good at what he did," he said.

Coady trained as an information technology specialist with the Army Reserves and was studying cybersecurity at Drake University in Des Moines. He was taking online classes while in Kuwait and wanted to become an officer.

"I still don't fully think it's real," his sister Keira Coady said. "I just remember all of our conversations about what he was going to do when he came back."

A mother of two who loved gardening

Amor, 39, was an avid gardener who enjoyed making salsa from the peppers and tomatoes in her garden with her son, a senior in high school. She also enjoyed rollerblading and bicycling with her fourth-grade daughter.

A week before the drone attack, Amor was moved off-base to a shipping container-style building that had no defenses, Joey Amor said.

"They were dispersing because they were in fear that the base they were on was going to get attacked and they felt it was safer in smaller groups in separate places," he said.

He last spoke to her about two hours before she was killed. He said she was working long shifts and they had been messaging about her tripping and falling the night before.

"She just never responded in the morning," he said.

A calling to serve his country

Khork was very patriotic and drawn from a young age to serving the U.S., his family said in a statement Tuesday.

He enlisted in the Army Reserve and joined Florida Southern College's ROTC program.

"That commitment helped shape the course of his life and reflected the deep sense of duty that was always at the core of who he was," said his mother, Donna Burhans, father, James Khork, and stepmother, Stacey Khork, in a statement.

Khork also loved history and had a degree in political science.

His family described him as "the life of the party, known for his infectious spirit, generous heart, and deep care for those who served alongside him and for everyone blessed to know him."

One of Khork's friends, Abbas Jaffer, posted on Facebook on Monday that he had lost the best person he had ever known.

"My best friend, best man, and brother gave his life defending our country overseas," Jaffer said. Khork and Jaffer had been friends for more than 16 years.

A loving father and husband

Tietjens lived with his family in the Washington Terrace mobile home park in the Omaha suburb of Bellevue, Nebraska. He was married with a son, according to a Facebook page.

Tietjens earned a black belt in Philippine Combatives and Taekwondo and was "an instructor who gave his time, discipline, and leadership to others," the Philippine Martial Arts Alliance said in a Facebook post.

On the mat and as a soldier, "he carried the same values: honor, discipline, service, and commitment to others," the organization said.

Nebraska Gov. Gov. Pillen paid tribute to the family Tuesday.

"Noah stepped up to serve and defend the American people from foreign enemies around the world — a sacrifice we must never forget," he wrote.

"We are holding the Tietjens family close in our hearts during this unbelievably difficult time and will keep them in our prayers," he said.

Cuba charges 6 with terrorism after deadly boat gunfight

Six people were charged on March 3 by Cuban authorities with terrorism in connection with a Feb. 25 incident where 10 people crossed into Cuban waters on a stolen boat and engaged in a firefight with government troops from the island.

USA TODAY

According to Cuban authorities, the gunfight happened after Cuban Border Guard troops asked the crew to identify themselves. Four of the crewmembers aboard the stolen boat were killed; six were wounded and taken by Cuban authorities; the commander of the Cuban government forces was also wounded.

"Six defendants have been charged with crimes of terrorism, as provided for in the Criminal Code. The Attorney General's Office ordered their detention with the precautionary measure of provisional imprisonment," the Cuban Embassy said in astatement. "With respect for the rights and guarantees enshrined in the Constitution and the laws, the Attorney General's Office will ensure compliance with due process, and once the investigations are concluded, it will adopt the corresponding procedural decisions."

Another person was arrested in connection with the scheme. Cuban authorities said the man was sent ahead to prepare for the arrival of the others. It's unclear if he is among the people being charged.

Cuba said at the time that the group planned to infiltrate the island to commit acts of terrorism at a moment of high tensions between the U.S. and Cuba.
