Sources say Queen Camilla didn't want King Charles to reveal his cancer diagnosis to the public.
Charles just announced that he'll be scaling back treatment in 2026.
His majesty was first diagnosed with cancer in February 2024.
King Charles has been extremely transparent and open about his cancer diagnosis, a major change from previous monarchs—including his mother, Queen Elizabeth II—who preferred to keep their health private.
But apparently Queen Camilla was not on board with her husband's decision to open up about his diagnosis with the public. PerThe Times, "It can now be revealed that when the King learnt he had cancer nearly two years ago, his wife initially believed his diagnosis should remain private, as she feared the toll public scrutiny of his health might take on his recovery."
Apparently, Camilla felt that "once the door on it had been opened, it could never be closed," but now she realizes King Charles made the right choice. Per a source, "Both of them now unequivocally think that being so open has been hugely positive — positive for public engagement with raising awareness around cancer and also personally for him in terms of how public good has come from personal misfortune."
King Charles actuallyjustgave an update about his treatment, saying earlier this month "Today I am able to share with you the good news that thanks to early diagnosis, effective intervention and adherence to 'doctors' orders,' my own schedule of cancer treatment can be reduced in the New Year. This milestone is both a personal blessing and a testimony to the remarkable advances that have been made in cancer care in recent years."
A spokesperson for the King also toldCNNthat "His Majesty has responded exceptionally well to treatment and his doctors advise that ongoing measures will now move into a precautionary phase. This position will be continuously monitored and reviewed to protect and prioritize his continued recovery."
