'Bird Droppings' & Other Unsanitary Conditions Spark MAJOR Recall Across Multiple Food Brands

  • The FDA has recalled hundreds of products distributed to 50 stores in Indiana, Minnesota, and North Dakota after unsanitary conditions were found at a Minneapolis storage facility.

  • The facility reportedly had contamination from bird droppings and rodent urine and feces in areas where food, drugs, medical devices, cosmetics, and pet products were stored.

  • Consumers and retailers are advised to destroy affected products immediately, as exposure could pose serious health risks, including bacterial contamination such as Salmonella.

A majorrecallspanning hundreds of products across multiple industries is raising eyebrows (and clearing pantries) across several states. Gold Star Distribution, Inc. has recalled numerous grocery items, canned goods, medications, and other products due to unsanitary conditions at its Minneapolis storage facility. According to the recall, the FDA found "the presence of rodent excreta, rodent urine, and bird droppings in areas where medical devices, drugs, human food, pet food, and cosmetic products were held."

As you can probably imagine, that's a serious health risk.

The facility distributed recalled products to 50 stores across three states: Indiana, Minnesota, and North Dakota. "Exposure to contaminated products can pose serious health risks to consumers, including the potential for bacterial contamination, which may result in illness or infection, includingSalmonella," therecallstates. And contamination from rodent droppings isn't just gross—it can make people sick even from contact with packaging. Rodents are also known carriers of Leptospira, the bacteria that cause leptospirosis.

According to the recall, "Consumers and retailers who purchased the affected products should destroy the products as soon as possible and verify such destruction by receipt provided to Gold Star at 1000 N. Humboldt Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55411. Products should not be shipped back to Gold Star under any circumstances. Gold Star will provide refunds upon request."

Because of the nature of the recall, you should also thoroughly wash your hands and disinfect any surfaces that may have come into contact with the affected products.
