About Our Ads Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement The MLB offseason could feature a blockbuster trade, with the Cincinnati Reds reportedly open to considering offers for superstar shortstop Elly De La Cruz, and the Los Angeles Dodgers emerging as a potential landing spot.
According to MLB insider Jim Bowden, the Reds will "absolutely" consider trading De La Cruz this offseason. Speaking on the D-Mac and Reiter show Thursday, Bowden suggested that moving the 24-year-old could make sense for Cincinnati, particularly if the team believes it cannot compete financially to keep him long-term.
Bowden also identified the Dodgers as a potential destination, suggesting Los Angeles needs to start thinking about its next superstar player.

Cincinnati Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz (44) hits a solo home run in the ninth inning of the MLB National League game between the Cincinnati Reds and the Los Angeles Dodgers at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati on Monday, Sept. 14, 2026. The Dodgers won, 4-1.
The Dodgers have consistently shown a willingness to pursue elite talent, and De La Cruz could represent an exciting addition to their already impressive roster.
According to Bowden, the Boston Red Sox previously made a strong offer for De La Cruz ahead of the MLB trade deadline, but Cincinnati ultimately rejected it.
Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow reportedly contacted the Reds with what Bowden described as a "very strong offer," demonstrating the level of interest surrounding the talented infielder.
Cincinnati also attempted to secure De La Cruz's future with a massive contract extension during spring training in 2025. The proposed deal would have surpassed Joey Votto's 10-year, $225 million contract from 2012 as the largest in franchise history.
However, with agent Scott Boras representing De La Cruz, the Reds could face an uphill battle convincing him to sign a long-term extension.

De La Cruz is coming off the best season of his career, making his trade value particularly attractive.
The dynamic infielder slashed .283/.365/.515, recording 30 home runs, 79 RBIs, 65 extra-base hits and 30 stolen bases.
Those numbers make him one of baseball's most exciting young talents, and several contenders could potentially be interested in acquiring his services.
For Cincinnati, the decision could ultimately come down to its long-term outlook. If the organization believes it cannot sign De La Cruz to a lucrative extension or build a competitive roster around him, trading him while his value is high could become the preferred option.
A move to Los Angeles would undoubtedly send shockwaves throughout MLB, although it remains to be seen whether the Dodgers are prepared to make the kind of offer necessary to land him.
