Maura Higgins is opening up after tackling her Disney Night choreography as Tinker Bell on Dancing With the Stars . The Love Island alum got candid in a lengthy statement she penned alongside a carousel of behind-the-scenes photos from Monday night’s episode after fans criticized her performance in Team Slaytopia’s group number.
“This week was definitely one of the toughest I’ve had so far. I was really unwell, running on very little energy and trying to learn two dances, but I gave it absolutely everything I had,” she started her message, adding that she had no previous dance experience before joining DWTS. “I wanted to challenge myself, step outside my comfort zone and give something completely new my absolute best & that’s exactly what I’m trying to do every single week. I’m learning, I’m making mistakes, I’m pushing myself and I’m growing along the way!! Some weeks will be better than others, and that’s okay,” she continued, adding, “I’m only human.” She insisted she wasn’t sharing the message for “sympathy or to make excuses, but simply to share a little of the reality behind the scenes.”
The Traitors star uplifted her pro partner and “biggest support throughout this journey,” Mark Ballas, before seemingly addressing harsh feedback from viewers who criticized her “low energy” performances in both of her numbers this week.
“Genuinely what is up with maura tonight…she was the clear weak link of that team dance,” one person wrote , while another added , “i'm going to be very honest with you i genuinely think maura did by far the worst of any celebrity tonight and the judges were just distracted by how good of a show mark is able to put on that they didn't notice lol.”
Per her message, Maura seems to be focusing on those who continue to uplift and support her throughout the competition.
“To everyone who continues to support me, encourage me and cheer me on, please know how much it means,” she wrote toward the end of her statement. “You genuinely give me the strength to keep going, especially on the harder days. Your kindness never goes unnoticed.”
She then closed her post by expressing how “grateful” she is to still be in the running for the iconic Mirrorball trophy.
Based on that alone, I tink she’ll be just fine either way!
