This marks the second time this week a sex toy was tossed onto the court in the middle of the game

Another WNBA game was halted due to an object being thrown onto the court.

On Friday, Aug. 1, the Golden State Valkyries faced the Chicago Sky, and 7 minutes and 42 seconds into the third quarter, a patron threw an unexpected object onto the court of the Wintrust Arena in Chicago. The broadcast caught footage of a green sex toy being thrown on the sidelines just shy of the court, later shared on X.

The referee quickly blew the whistle, halting the game, and the announcer is heard saying, "Got a whistle away from the basketball."

A second referee went over to the object and kicked it off the sidelines, and then another staff member went to pick it up with a towel to remove it from the vicinity.

This marked the second time a sex toy was tossed onto the basketball court. On Tuesday, July 29, during the Golden State Valkyries' game against the the Atlanta Dream, a green sex toy landed on the court during the game's final seconds.

"Something flies on the court actually from the crowd. And you can see the object... the green thing bounces and it goes to the sideline," sports announcer Morgan Ragan said.

"We're not exactly sure where it came from," she continued, as a timeout was called and the game was paused. After the object was identified, she said, "Oh my gosh, OK. OK, inappropriate. Get them out of here, whoever it is [that threw it]."

Following the second incident, Chicago Sky player Angel Reese wrote a cheeky X post and joked about Indiana Fever player, Sydney Colson, "hey @SydJColson, why do you keep throwing your mean green in different arenas…. it's getting weird."

Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham also shared an X post: "stop throwing dildos on the court… you're going to hurt one of us."

The owners of the two sex toys have yet to be publicly identified, but if the arena had identified the perpetrators, they would have been immediately removed from the space due to the WNBA policy.

According to the WNBA's Fan Code of Conduct on its website, "Guests who engage in fighting, throwing objects or attempting to enter the court will be immediately ejected from the arena."

Katie Ledecky stubbornly refused to give up her 800-meter freestyle crown Saturday at the world championships in Singapore, winning that race for a seventh consecutive time and fending off Canada's Summer McIntosh, who led a field of talented, young would-be usurpers.

The seven world wins put Ledecky at the top of the chart for the most triumphs in a single event, as she passed her own record of six victories in the 1500 free and Sarah Sjöström of Sweden's six titles in the 50 butterfly.

Ledecky said she didn't feel too much pressure coming into this race, satisfied with how she's been training all year.

"It's been a really great season and I think coming into tonight, no matter what the outcome was, I was gonna be really happy with my season," she told NBC Sports. "And I think I just took the pressure off and allowed me to enjoy the race and kind of appreciate that moment."

Ledecky forced the early pace, with McIntosh keeping her in close range.

The young Canadian then took a brief, 0.14-second lead after 700 meters, with Ledecky's dominance appearing to teeter.

But the veteran found another gear and quickly regained the lead before heading into the final 50 with a 0.25-second edge over McIntosh, an advantage the American extended as she closed out another win.

McIntosh fell to third behind Australia's Lani Pallister.

"That last 100 was pretty stressful," Ledecky said. "Lani was and Summer was right there."

Ledecky clocked in at 8:05.62, Pallister at 8:05.98 and McIntosh 8:07.29. It was by far the closest worlds win of Ledecky's seven in the 800 free.

A disappointed McIntosh said she didn't swim as well as she wanted to, but will turn the page and concentrate on her next race, in the 400 individual medley.

"So it's just the beginning and I know I have lots of time in my career to do better at it," she told the CBC.

McIntosh vowed to use Saturday's disappointment as fuel for future 800-meter efforts.

"I really wanted to swim my own race and I didn't do that," said McIntosh, who congratulated Ledecky and called her an "inspiration of mine."

"I think what I did tonight actually makes me want to keep doing it more, to see how much better I can get at it because I know I can be way faster than I was tonight."

The suburban Washington, D.C., native Ledecky said she's now looking forward to some time off, time with loved ones and a few dips in the pool she swam in as a youngster.

"I'm looking forward to that," she said. "It's home to me but I'm with the people that I love, around the pool."

The niece of New York Islanders co-owner Jon Ledecky has also been dominating the 800 free at the Olympics, having won gold in this race at the 2012 Games in London, 2016 in Rio, 2021 in Tokyo and last summer near Paris.

She's the only woman to win the same individual event at four Olympics, in any sport. The only other swimmer to pull off such a four-peat was American legend Michael Phelps, who took the 200 individual medley in 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016.

At age 28, Ledecky was the field's oldest swimmer, and she outdueled her youngest and most fierce competitor, the 18-year-old Toronto native McIntosh.

Ledecky's air of 800 invincibility was dented last year when a 17-year-old McIntosh beat the American at the Southern Zone South Sectional Championships in Orlando, Florida, on Feb. 8.

The Canadian prodigy opted against swimming in the 800 in France to concentrate on other events. She took gold in the 200 butterfly, 200 individual medley and 400 individual medley to become one of the breakout stars of last summer.

If McIntosh takes on the 800 free in Los Angeles, Saturday's race offered a tantalizing preview of what could be in store for 2028.

NEW YORK (AP) — Millions of student borrowers could begin having their wages garnished as soon as this summer, according to estimates from credit bureau TransUnion.

The company predicts that by August roughly 3 million borrowers could move into default, meaning they're 270 days past due on payments. At that point, loan holders are at risk of having 15% of their pay docked by the government, with the money going toward the outstanding debt. There has been no clear indication of when wage garnishment will start.

After the pandemic-era pause on student loan payments ended in May, borrowers have had to reassess the state of their loans and budgets. According to TransUnion, another 2 million borrowers are on course to default in September.

A Biden-administration grace period, during which late or missed payments were not counted against credit scores, ended in the fall.

Since then, millions of borrowers have seen hits to their credit ratings.

Here's what to know:

What you can do to prepare

"The most important thing borrowers can do before administrative wage garnishment restarts is to log into studentaid.gov to check whether their federal student loans are in default and take steps now to remove them from default," said Kyra Taylor, staff attorney at the National Consumer Law Center.

Taylor said it's not uncommon for borrowers to be unaware that their loans are in default. If borrowers attended college or graduate school during different periods of time, or if they have different federal loan types, they may also have multiple student loan servicers.

If that's the case, you should act now to get your loans out of default and back into good standing by either entering a rehabilitation agreement, where you must make nine consecutive payments based on their income, or by consolidating your loans into a new federal Direct Loan.

"Because this hasn't happened for so long, there are many people who have no idea they're at risk," said Aissa Canchola Bañez, policy director at the Student Borrower Protection Center.

Wait times for student borrowers attempting to contact their loan servicers have been long, with many dropped calls, in part due to layoffs at the Education Department. Bañez recommends contacting your congressperson, using a casework tool that can guide you through submitting a constituent request.

"These offices have entire teams dedicated to constituent casework for when you have an issue with a federal agency, such as the Department of Education," she said. "So you can request assistance from your member of congress — your representative or senator."

What happens if you remain in default

Until past due payments are paid or the loan's default status is resolved, borrowers are at risk of having up to 15% of their wages deducted directly from their paychecks.

The Department of Education has sent notices to borrowers warning that tax refunds and wages could be withheld starting this summer if borrowers don't take steps to restart payments. The department hasn't yet provided additional information on timing.

Richelle Brooks, 37, an education administrator based in Los Angeles, said she's received warnings and notices about the resumption of collection of her loans. For several degrees, she still has $239,000 in outstanding debt, and she was informed her monthly payments on those loans will be roughly $3,000.

"I can't afford it," she said. "We just came out of the moratorium — not paying for five years. People getting these notices — they're terrified. I'm uneasy, too."

Brooks said she's an informed borrower who stays up to date on each development and who knows her options. She plans to enroll in coding classes, at least half-time, which could place her loans in deferment, so she wouldn't be required to make monthly payments, while she makes a financial plan.

Some options if you fear your wages will be garnished

There's still time to take action.

According to Taylor, the Department of Education must provide 30 days notice before it sends a garnishment order to your employer. During that time, you can request a hearing to object by telling the department that the garnishment would cause you financial hardship. You can also request that the department reduce the amount being garnished and submit documentation about your income and expenses.

To do this, you must make your hearing request in writing, postmarked no later than 30 days after the garnishment order. Your loan holder will then arrange the hearing. If you're unsure who your loan holder is, you can contact the Education Department's Default Resolution Group.

If you were laid off from your last job, you can also object to garnishment if you have not been in your current job for 12 consecutive months. You can further request a hearing and object if you submitted an application for certain kinds of statutory discharges and those have not yet been decided. Some common reasons for statutory discharge of student loans include: if the school you attended closed before you could complete your degree, if your school owes you a refund but fails to pay it, if you're experiencing total disability, or if you're experiencing bankruptcy.

"If the borrower requests a hearing within 30 days after receiving the garnishment notice, the department cannot start garnishment until it issues a decision on the borrower's objections and financial hardship request," Taylor said.

You can request a hearing after the 30 day period is up, but in those cases the department will generally not stop garnishing your wages while the hearing request is pending.

The Grammy-winning singer took her final bow on her Cowboy Carter and the Rodeo Chitlin' Circuit Tour at Allegiant Stadium in Vegas on July 26. The 32-stop stadium tour was the highest grossing country tour in history, earning over $400 million with more than 1.5 million fans packing venues across the U.S. and Europe.

But the impact went beyond ticket sales and attendance. The tour delivered viral moments that had fans buzzing around the globe.

Here's a look at some of the biggest moments.

Destiny's Child reunites onstage for surprise performance during final show

One of the biggest moments of the entire tour came on the final night in Las Vegas when Beyoncé brought out her former Destiny's Child group members for a surprise performance. Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams stunned the crowd as they joined her onstage, delivering throwback hits like their 2001 anthem "Bootylicious" and 2005 hit "Lose My Breath."

The crowd erupted as soon as Beyoncé introduced the trio. As they hit the stage, each member delivered on her solo parts while dancing in perfect sync. Rowland and Williams even helped Beyoncé with her "Renaissance"-favorite "Mute Challenge," and the moment felt especially special when they sang the lyrics, "just me and my crew — big energy!"

Beyoncé's 8-year-old daughter Rumi Carter was also a highlight of the show each night. She appeared alongside her mom and sister Blue when Beyoncé performed her song "Protector."

During the Renaissance World Tour, and now again on the "Cowboy Carter" tour, Beyoncé has been playfully scanning the crowd during the song, declaring, "She ain't no diva!" when pointing to a fan. This time around, she made sure to also spotlight someone who fits the title — proudly singing, "She's such a diva!" And each night, fans looked forward to seeing who the next diva might be.

Jay-Z makes first surprise appearance in Paris

During the final show in Paris, Beyoncé shocked fans when her husband, hip-hop mogul Jay-Z, made a surprise appearance. The two performed some of their beloved throwback hits together, including "Crazy in Love" (2003) and "Drunk in Love" (2013) as the crowd roared.

Jay also performed his song "Ni**as in Paris," which made for an epic show in the French capital. Following his debut in Paris, Jay returned to the stage at a couple U.S. stops — each appearance met with the same electric energy.

Beyoncé has flying car mishap, later replaces car with soaring gold horse

During Bey's opening show in her hometown of Houston on June 28, she was forced to pause the show because a technical glitch caused the vehicle to tilt midair. She told everyone to "stop" repeatedly before being safely lowered and landing the car among the audience. There were no injuries. While she recovered, the moment quickly made headlines regarding the safety of the stunt.

During her following shows she cut "16 Carriages" from the set list completely and avoided flying in the air in a car.

However, a new highlight of the tour came when Beyoncé soared over the crowd on a mechanical horse, replacing the golden car as the single made a return to the set list.

Les Twins return to the stage with Beyoncé

Another standout moment was Les Twins — Laurent and Larry Nicolas Bourgeois — who first joined Beyoncé for her "Cowboy Carter" tour in London, on the international leg of her tour.

Born in Sarcelles, France, the dynamic duo has become known as Beyoncé's other set of twins, along with her 8-year-old children Sir and Rumi Carter. Les Twins have collaborated with her on numerous occasions, dancing alongside her on major stages, tours and videos. Some of those include the Mrs. Carter Show World Tour in 2013, Beychella in 2018 and the Renaissance World Tour in 2023. Fans were surprised to see them return to the stage during the London opener. To fans delight, they continued to dance alongside the Bey as she returned to the U.S.

The pour heard around the world: Beyoncé's funny exchanges with her robots

Beyoncé's concerts were packed with high-tech production, leading to countless viral moments as fans watched every detail. During her final Los Angeles show, a robot arm missed her cup while pouring a glass of SirDavis whiskey and the Beyhive went buzzing.

Beyoncé turned Paris into a special occasion when she brought out her first guest and "Cowboy Carter" collaborator — none other than Miley Cyrus. Decked in gold ensembles, they held hands and kissed cheeks before singing their duet "II Most Wanted" as the crowd went wild.

Of course, the Grammy-winning singer first debuted her "Cowboy Carter" tour at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on April 28 with 39 songs on the set list. The tour may be over, but its legacy lives on.

Longtime fans of High School Musical know that Zac Efron isn't the only vocalist behind his character Troy Bolton's songs in the first movie.

However, director Kenny Ortega shut down claims that the actor's voice isn't featured in the film.

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, the legendary choreographer explained that Efron did, in fact, sing all of the songs in High School Musical. His vocals were mixed with actor Drew Seeley's.

"The songs were written before Zac got the role," Ortega said. "So although he could sing, and he had a lovely voice, it wasn't the voice that the songs were written for. So he sang everything and we dubbed parts of it, so that it had greater vocal strength."

It's no secret that Seeley's powerhouse voice is prominently featured in High School Musical. He even stood in for Efron during the live concert tour for the film while the actor was making Hairspray. Seeley addressed recording Troy Bolton's vocals on the Magical Rewind podcast last year.

"I was never told why they did it the way that they did it," Seeley told hosts Will Friedle and Sabrina Bryan. "But I think that they were within about three, four weeks of shooting the actual film, and they had me and not Zac. Me and the rest of the movie cast all go into the studio for, like, four days straight and record all the songs together. So, yeah, I knew that I was doing that."

It's unclear when Efron recorded his parts, but Ortega said it's a misconception that Efron didn't sing at all in his breakout role.

"That's important that people know that Zac Efron did sing," Ortega said.

The Iron Claw actor sings all of the tracks himself in the subsequent sequels. Seeley went on to star in a different teen musical movie, Another Cinderella Story, alongside Disney Channel alum Selena Gomez.

BANGKOK (AP) — Protesters rallied Saturday in the Thai capital to demand the resignation of court-suspended Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra and in support of the armed forces following a violent border dispute with Cambodia that killed more than three dozen people and displaced over 260,000.

Gathered at Bangkok's Victory Monument despite soaring temperatures, many sang patriotic songs and listened to speeches denouncing Paetongtarn and her father, Thaksin Shinawatra, a former prime minister, and voiced their backing of the country's army, which has always retained substantial power in the Southeast Asian country. Police said there were about 2,000 protesters by mid-afternoon, though more were expected to join as the temperature cooled.

Some locals accuse Paetongtarn and her family of allowing the conflict — which stretches back decades with both sides claiming pockets of land near the shared border — to escalate due to their close ties with Cambodia's former prime minister, Hun Sen. A court suspended Paetongtarn last month after Hun Sen, still a major power in his own country, leaked a phone call in which she she called him "uncle" and appeared to denigrate a Thai general, angering many.

The most recent clashes ended with an uneasy Malaysian-brokered ceasefire on July 29.

"Ung Ing, you need to leave," said one well-known conservative columnist and protester, Jittakorn Bussaba, using Paetongtarn 's nickname. "Because there's blood on your hands. People have died because of you," he said from the stage to general applause.

"⁠Ung Ing has damaged the country. Everyone needs to help out," said 58-year-old Ammorn Khunthong. "Thaksin and his family should not run or command this country anymore."

There were many familiar faces from a conservative, pro-royalist group once known as the Yellow Shirts, longtime foes of Paetongtarn's father, who was toppled in a military coup in 2006. Thaksin, a billionaire tycoon, entered politics by founding his own political party and buying the loyalty of local political bosses nationwide. He was often accused of bullying critics and not separating his business dealings from those of the government.

Yellow Shirts rallies also helped oust the elected government of Thaksin's sister, Yingluck Shinawatra, in a 2014 coup.

The army in Thailand plays a major role in politics and has staged 13 successful coups since the country became a constitutional monarchy in 1932.

DEIR AL-BALAH, Gaza Strip (AP) — Israeli forces opened fire near two aid distribution sites run by the Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation as crowds of hungry Palestinians again sought food, killing at least 10 people, witnesses and health workers said Saturday. The violence came a day after U.S. officials visited a GHF site and the U.S. ambassador called the troubled system "an incredible feat."

Another 19 people were shot dead as they crowded near the Zikim crossing from Israel in the hope of obtaining aid, said Fares Awad, head of the Gaza health ministry's ambulance and emergency service.

Nearly a week has passed since Israel, under international pressure amid growing scenes of starving children, announced limited humanitarian pauses and airdrops meant to get more food to Gaza's over 2 million people. They now largely rely on aid after almost 22 months of war.

But the United Nations, partners and Palestinians say far too little aid is coming in, with months of supplies piled up outside Gaza waiting for Israeli approval. Trucks that enter are mostly stripped of supplies by desperate people and criminal groups before reaching warehouses for distribution.

Experts this week said a "worst-case scenario of famine" was occurring. On Saturday, Gaza's health ministry said seven Palestinians had died of malnutrition-related causes over the past 24 hours, including a child.

Aid is "far from sufficient," Germany's government said via spokesman Stefan Kornelius. The U.N. has said 500 to 600 trucks of aid are needed daily.

Families of the 50 hostages still in Gaza fear they are going hungry too, and blame Hamas, after the militants released images of an emaciated hostage, Evyatar David.

More deaths near U.S.-supported GHF sites

Near the northernmost GHF distribution site near the Netzarim corridor, Yahia Youssef, who had come to seek aid, described a grimly familiar scene. After helping carry three people wounded by gunshots, he said he saw others on the ground, bleeding.

"It's the same daily episode," Youssef said. Health workers said at least eight people were killed. Israel's military said it fired warning shots at a gathering approaching its forces.

At least two people were killed in the Shakoush area hundreds of meters (yards) from where the GHF operates in the southernmost city of Rafah, witnesses said. Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis received two bodies and many injured.

Witness Mohamed Abu Taha said Israeli troops opened fire toward the crowds. He saw three people — two men and a woman — shot as he fled.

Israel's military said it was not aware of any fire by its forces in the area. The GHF said nothing happened near its sites.

GHF says its armed contractors have only used pepper spray or fired warning shots to prevent deadly crowding. Israel 's military on Friday said it was working to make the routes under its control safer.

The GHF — backed by millions of dollars in U.S. support — launched in May as Israel sought an alternative to the U.N.-run system, which had safely delivered aid for much of the war but was accused by Israel of allowing Hamas to siphon off supplies. Israel has not offered evidence for that claim and the U.N. has denied it.

From May 27 to July 31, 859 people were killed near GHF sites, according to a U.N. report Thursday. Hundreds more have been killed along the routes of U.N.-led food convoys. Hamas-led police once guarded those convoys, but Israeli fire targeted the officers.

Israel and GHF have claimed the toll has been exaggerated.

Airdrops by a Jordan-led coalition — Israel, the UAE, Egypt, France, and Germany — are another approach, though experts say the strategy remains deeply inadequate and even dangerous for people on the ground.

"Let's go back to what works & let us do our job," Philippe Lazzarini, the head of the U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees, wrote on social media, calling for more and safer truck deliveries.

Airstrikes continue

Nasser Hospital said it received five bodies after two Israeli strikes on tents sheltering displaced people in Gaza's south.

The health ministry's ambulance and emergency service said a strike hit a house between the towns of Zawaida and Deir al-Balah, killing two parents and their three children. Another strike hit a tent in Khan Younis, killing a mother and her daughter.

Israel's top general Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir warned that "combat will continue without rest" if hostages aren't freed.

Hostage families push Israel to cut deal

U.S. President Donald Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, met with hostages' families Saturday, a week after quitting ceasefire talks, blaming Hamas' intransigence.

"I didn't hear anything new from him. I heard that there was pressure from the Americans to end this operation, but we didn't hear anything practical," said Michel Illouz, father of Israeli hostage Guy Illouz.

He said he asked Witkoff to set a time frame but got "no answers."

Protesters called on Israel's government to make a deal to end the war, imploring them to "stop this nightmare and bring them out of the tunnels."

Coming home to ruins

In part of Gaza City, displaced people who managed to return home found rubble-strewn neighborhoods. Most Palestinians in Gaza are crowded into ever-shrinking areas considered safe.

"I don't know what to do. Destruction, destruction," said Mohamed Qeiqa, who stood amid collapsed concrete slabs and pointed out a former five-story building. "Where will people settle?"

The war began when Hamas attacked southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, killing around 1,200 people, mostly civilians. Israel's retaliatory offensive has killed more than 60,400 Palestinians, according to Gaza's Health Ministry, which doesn't distinguish between militants and civilians but says women and children make up over half the dead. The ministry operates under the Hamas government. The U.N. and other international organizations see it as the most reliable source of data on casualties.

The ministry says 93 children have died from malnutrition-related causes in Gaza since the war began. It said 76 adults have died of malnutrition-related causes since late June, when it started counting adult deaths.
