Quentin Tarantino is remembering Michael Madsen, who died on July 3 in his Malibu home. He was 67.

According to TMZ, Tarantino held a closed memorial for Madsen on Friday at his Vista Theatre, during which he recalled a needed moment of support from his frequent collaborator while filming "Reservoir Dogs."

"It was the last hour of the last day of the first week of shooting. So, I had never directed a movie before," Tarantino said on stage. "And Lawrence Tierney was a fucking nightmare. He was completely insane. He was so crazy, and I'd never directed before, so I'm dealing with a crazy man Monday through Saturday."

He continued, "All the other actors and the crew can't stand him. And all of a sudden, he yells at me or something, does something disrespectful. The other times, he was being disrespectful, but he didn't quite mean it. This time, he meant it."

Tarantino went on to act out his expletive-laden response, which ended in him firing Tierney in front of the entire cast and crew, who broke into "applause" at his termination.

Although his team was excited, Tarantino thought his career was over after firing the actor.

"I just spent a week shooting this fucking guy, now I just fired him," Tarantino recalled. "Live Entertainment is gonna fucking fire me. That's it for my career. It was nice while it lasted. But I had to do it, I had to stand up for myself."

That night, Tarantino got a voicemail from Madsen, who backed up his decision to get rid of Tierney.

Doing his best Madsen impression, Tarantino recalled the message: "'Yeah, Quentin, it's Michael. Just calling to say that I really respected what you did tonight. It was important, and needed to be done. He was busting your balls and you had to do it. And I want you to know that I respect it, as a director, I respect it as a captain, and I respect it as a man. So, I'm on your side, buddy. Thanks.'"

With an acting career spanning over 40 years, Madsen was best known for his collaborations with Tarantino. The director cast Madsen as a psychotic thief in "Reservoir Dogs" and a hitman in "Kill Bill: Vols. 1 & 2." He also appeared in Tarantino's "The Hateful Eight" and "Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood."

According to Madsen's rep, he was found unresponsive on July 3 and said the cause of death appeared to be a cardiac arrest.

"In the last two years Michael Madsen has been doing some incredible work with independent film including upcoming feature films' Resurrection Road', 'Concessions' and 'Cookbook for Southern Housewives,' and was really looking forward to this next chapter in his life," his rep said in a statement. "Michael was also preparing to release a new book called 'Tears For My Father: Outlaw Thoughts and Poems' currently being edited," Madsen's managers, Susan Ferris and Ron Smith, and publicist Liz Rodriguez said in a joint statement. "Michael Madsen was one of Hollywood's most iconic actors, who will be missed by many."

Madsen's acting career also spans television, with appearances in "Miami Vice," "Quantum Leap," "The Hitchhiker," "Vengeance Unlimited" and dozens more.

In addition to film and TV, Madsen voiced characters in video games such as "Grand Theft Auto III," the "Dishonored" series and "Crime Boss: Rockay City." Over the past two decades, his recent work has featured his appearances in dozens of low-budget films, as well as publishing poetry and photography.

Investigators searching for a man they say shot and killed four people at a Montana bar Friday morning have located the pickup truck he fled in, but the suspect — believed to be armed and dangerous — remains on the loose, officials said.

A white Ford F-150 that Michael Paul Brown drove was found, but Brown "was not located in or around the vehicle," Montana Division of Criminal Investigation Administrator Lee Johnson said at a news conference late Friday.

Authorities are now focusing their search in the mountains near Stumptown Road, west of Anaconda, where the shooting took place, Johnson said. A Montana Department of Justice spokesperson said Saturday multiple local, state and federal agencies are searching for Brown on the ground and in the air around Stumptown Road.

Anaconda-Deer Lodge County Police Chief Bill Sather on Saturday asked for the public's help and thanked the community for its patience during this stressful time.

"We are doing everything we can to find and bring this perpetrator to justice," he said in a video posted on Facebook. "It's OK to go about your business in town but please use caution."

The Anaconda-Deer Lodge County Law Enforcement Center advised the public in a Facebook post to stay out of the area and not to approach Brown. Sather on Saturday asked anyone who sees anything suspicious to alert 911.

Anaconda resident Randy Clark, who lives near Highway 1 and Stumptown Road — where the search for Brown is ongoing — filmed a helicopter flying near his home on Saturday morning on the west side of town.

Clark, a retired police officer, told CNN a helicopter search happened until after about 11 p.m. on Friday and resumed at about 6 a.m. local time.

He said he could hear authorities shouting on Friday, but he couldn't tell if they were yelling at the suspect or communicating with each other.

"I heard a bunch of sirens and stuff and saw the state troopers and local police flying down Highway 1, west toward Philipsburg," he said. "(They) stopped directly across from where I live. You could see the blue lights and stuff, everything."

The shooting took place at 10:30 a.m. local time at The Owl Bar, and the scene is secure, the Montana DCI said, without providing additional details about what led up to the shooting.

Investigators have identified all four victims of the shooting but aren't releasing their names until their families have been notified, Johnson said.

Friday's violence is among at least 256 mass shootings in the US so far this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive.

Cassandra Dutra, a bartender at the Owl Bar for six months, told CNN she feels extremely overwhelmed and sad about the shooting on Friday.

"It just isn't real. It's totally overwhelming," she said. She believes every person in the bar at the time of the shooting was killed, which included a bartender who was the only staff member working, and three customers.

She said Brown lived next door to the bar and would come in frequently, but noted "he wasn't a part of the camaraderie" existing with the others.

Dutra was not working on Friday but she lives near the bar and heard noise during the shooting. At first, she assumed it was coming from construction happening outside the bar. When she heard there was a shooting at the Owl, she did not think it was a dangerous situation where people were hurt.

"I didn't immediately panic because I just know the atmosphere in the Owl … it never occurred to me that anybody was hurt," she said.

Officials released a photo Saturday taken from security camera footage showing Brown leaving The Owl Bar as he fled the scene of Friday's shooting, according to the Montana Department of Justice. - Montana Department of Justice

David Gwerder, the owner of The Owl Bar, told The he was unaware of any conflicts between Brown and anyone who was in the bar Friday morning.

"He knew everybody that was in that bar. I guarantee you that," Gwerder told the AP. "He didn't have any running dispute with any of them. I just think he snapped."

CNN has reached out to Gwerder for comment.

Brown served as an armor crewman in the US Army from January 2001 to May 2005 and was deployed to Iraq from February 2004 to March 2005, Lt. Col. Ruth Castro, a spokesperson with the US Army, told CNN in an email Saturday.

Brown was then in the Montana National Guard from April 2006 to March 2009, she added. He left military service with the rank of sergeant.

Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte said on X he is "praying for the victims, their loved ones, and the brave law enforcement officers" who responded to the scene.

Montana Congressman Ryan Zinke encouraged people in the area to "stay inside and lock their doors."

The FBI, the Denver office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Granite County Sheriff's Office said they are assisting with the investigation.

This story has been with additional information.

Slow tropical development is possible off the Southeast or mid-Atlantic coasts over the next few days.

A sluggish cold front is pushing through the South this weekend and an area of low pressure is expected to develop along it.

These areas of spin can, on occasion, generate sustained thunderstorms and an area of spin as they move northeastward away from the Southeast.

(MORE: 5 Different Ways Tropical Storms And Hurricanes Can Form, Including From Tropical Waves To Gyres)

Formation into a tropical depression or storm is not currently expected, but this is a favored area for development climatologically.

Tropical Development Potential

Regardless of tropical development, the frontal boundary that gives us this opportunity for development will also pool abundant moisture and cooler air across the Southeast.

The moisture could be enough to cause flooding in Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina or Tennessee this weekend. Parts of coastal Georgia and southern South Carolina, in particular, could see areas of flood where 3-6 inches of rain accumulate.

The next named storm to form will be named "Dexter."

Southeast, Lesser Antilles Favored Development Areas In August

A steep increase in tropical activity has historically occurred over the next 4-6 weeks across the Atlantic basin.

Tropical development can occur anywhere from the Gulf and Southeast coasts to the Central Atlantic and even off the coast of Canada.

(MORE: Hurricane Season's Main Event: Why August Typically Kicks Off The Atlantic's Most Active Time)

This is because water temperatures are near their annual peak, Saharan air has typically mixed out, wind shear is decreasing and instability across the basin is high. These are all favorable conditions for tropical formation.

Matt Rife is pivoting to the paranormal, at least when it comes to his new pad.

The stand-up comedian has bought the former house of Ed and Lorraine Warren, the ghost hunters who inspired the couple played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga in The Conjuring franchise.

"I have officially purchased Ed and Lorraine Warren's home and Occult Museum," Rife wrote on Instagram on Friday, noting that he has become "the legal guardian, for at least the next five years, of the entire haunted collection, including THE ANNABELLE DOLL."

In a separate video on TikTok, Rife explained the significance of his decision. "This might be the most important and prominent piece of paranormal history in the world," he said. "I know a lot of you guys don't know what any of this means whatsoever, but if you follow ghost stuff, this is as big as it gets."

The comedian also clarified that while he does own the physical house, he does not own its various curios. "We are the legal guardians and caretakers of all 750 haunted artifacts and items in the Warren Museum, including the Annabelle doll," he said. "We do not legally own the items, but we are the legal guardians and caretakers of the items for at least the next five years."

Rife obtained Annabelle shortly after Dan Rivera, an investigator for the New England Society for Psychic Research, died suddenly while showcasing the infamous Raggedy Ann doll in July. The NESPR, which the Warrens founded, claims that the doll was at one point attached to "an inhuman demonic spirit."

Annabelle inspired the opening scene of The Conjuring in 2013, and eventually launched a trilogy of spinoff films: 2014's Annabelle, 2017's Annabelle: Creation, and 2019's Annabelle Comes Home, the last of which took place exclusively in the Warrens' oddity-filled family residence.

Rife said his affection for the Conjuring movies inspired his massive purchase. "If you know me, you know I'm obsessed with the paranormal and all things haunted," he wrote on Instagram. "You also may know the Conjuring films are my favorite scary movies of all time. So I'm incredibly honored to have taken over one of the most prominent properties in paranormal history."

The comedian went on to claim that the Warrens "arguably put demonology and paranormal into the mainstream" and noted that they "are the very heart of some of the most famous haunted stories of all time," including The Conjuring and The Amityville Horror.

Rife also explained that he and his friend Elton Castee, who is taking on the venture with him, intend to ensure that the Warrens' property will still host visitors. "We plan to open the house for overnight stays and museum tours, so you yourself can experience and learn all the haunted history surrounding this amazing place," he wrote.

In his TikTok, Rife acknowledged the potential supernatural risk he took by purchasing the house. "This is the most random hobby ever, but it's so f---ing cool, man," he said. "I should probably collect stamps or something — might be a little safer."

The fictional version of the Warrens will return to the big screen in The Conjuring: Last Rites, which Farmiga recently told Entertainment Weekly will be her final outing in the series. "It is the end of the road. It's got to be the end of the road," she said. "I would literally explode on camera. What Last Rites demanded of us physically, emotionally, mentally, stamina-wise... It's been a long haul, man. It's been a really, really long haul, but it's time."

The Conjuring: Last Rites hits theaters Sept. 5.

Free-agent wide receiver Keenan Allen and the Los Angeles Chargers might be getting the band back together.

NFL Network reported that there is a mutual interest in a reunion. Allen visited the Chargers on Friday, the day after their 34-7 victory over the Detroit Lions in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio.

Allen, 33, spent 11 seasons with the Chargers after being selected in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft. The six-time Pro Bowl selection recorded 904 receptions for 10,530 yards and 59 touchdowns in 139 games (134 starts) for the team.

Allen was then traded to Chicago in March 2024 for a fourth-round pick in that year's draft.

He collected 70 catches for 744 yards and seven touchdowns in 15 games (all starts) with the Bears before becoming a free agent in March.

The Chargers' wide receiver room took a hit when Allen's former teammate -- Mike Williams -- announced his retirement before training camp.

That left Ladd McConkey, Quentin Johnston, Jalen Reagor and rookie Tre Harris as the top targets for quarterback Justin Herbert.

After Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau sparked romance rumors, The Onion shared a faux headline about a romance between her ex, Orlando Bloom, and former German Chancellor Angela Merkel

Bloom shared his reaction to the joke on social media

Perry and Bloom officially confirmed their split in early July 2025

Orlando Bloom knows how to take a joke.

As the actor's ex Katy Perry sparks romance rumors with Justin Trudeau, satirical outlet The Onion poked fun at the singer and former Canadian prime minister by pretending to set Bloom, 48, up with another former world leader.

"Orlando Bloom Spotted At Dinner With Angela Merkel," read a headline from the satirical newspaper, which it shared in a Friday, Aug. 1 Instagram post. The headline was accompanied by what appeared to be an AI photo of the actor and former Chancellor of Germany enjoying a candlelit meal together, as well as some faux sourcing about the duo.

"Just weeks after announcing his split with fiancée Katy Perry, English actor Orlando Bloom was photographed Friday dining with former German Chancellor Angela Merkel," the newspaper's joke reporting read. "Angela kept Orlando laughing all night — he couldn't keep his eyes off her!' said an insider source who spotted the pair sipping wine, slurping oysters, and splitting a decadent piece of chocolate layer cake at a Michelin-starred restaurant."

Trudeau, 53, and Perry, 40, began sparking romance rumors after they were spotted on multiple outings in late July. On Monday, July 28, Perry and Trudeau were photographed walking a dog through Montréal's Mount Royal Park before enjoying a meal at local restaurant Le Violon. Then, on Wednesday, Trudeau was spotted in the crowd at the singer's Lifetimes Tour at Montréal's Bell Centre.

Something could be blossoming between the two, a Canadian source told PEOPLE following the Montréal sightings.

"They are interested in each other, but it will take a while to see where this goes," the source told PEOPLE. "She is traveling around the world, and he is figuring out his life now that he is no longer prime minister of Canada, but there is an attraction. They have a lot in common."

The source added that "music is one of many things they can share," and optimism is another. "Both are idealists and still live in a world where they think they can make improvements, although it has gotten more difficult."

"Justin is a [politician] who is used to living a secret life with his personal activity, and wouldn't put on a public display at this stage," another Canadian source told PEOPLE after the pop star and former prime minister dined at Le Violon together.

"He knows they were being watched and is smart enough to play it low-key for now," the source said of Trudeau, adding that the "timing seems good for them, although a romance is in very early stages."

Trudeau split from wife Sophie Grégoire in 2023, after 18 years of marriage. They share three teenage children. Perry and Bloom confirmed the end of their engagement in early July. They share a 4-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove. (Bloom also shares son Flynn, 14, with ex-wife Miranda Kerr.)

"Due to the abundance of recent interest and conversation surrounding Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry's relationship, representatives have confirmed that Orlando and Katy have been shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on co-parenting," reps for Bloom and Perry said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE at the time.

"They will continue to be seen together as a family, as their shared priority is — and always will be — raising their daughter with love, stability, and mutual respect," the statement concluded.
