Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze in 'Dirty Dancing'

Patrick Swayze had anything but the time of his life when his Dirty Dancing costar Jennifer Grey couldn't stop giggling while filming a key scene, according to the movie's choreographer.

Kenny Ortega looked back on the ordeal in a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, recalling the montage sequence of Swayze's Johnny teaching Grey's Baby how to dance. Her family is vacationing at a resort in the Catskills, where Johnny is a professional dancer, and she ends up stepping in for his regular partner at one of his must-do assignments. He's already not in love with the arrangement, but Baby truly annoys him during their practice when she can't get through the part of the routine where his hand brushes her underarm.

"This moment where he's tickling her, she's literally losing herself," Ortega said. "We're in a tin building. It's freezing cold. It's 4 o'clock in the morning. Patrick is so tired and wanting to go home. And every time he does this, she's giggling, and the look on his face. No one directed that."

Fortunately for all involved, Dirty Dancing proved to be a hit, launching Swayze and Grey to new levels of stardom and setting Ortega up for a long career as a choreographer, director, and producer. (His other credits include Newsies, Hocus Pocus, and High School Musical.) Nearly 40 years later, Grey is also set to star in a yet-untitled Dirty Dancing legacy sequel, which she wants to "honor" Swayze, who died of pancreatic cancer in 2009.

Back in 2020, Grey herself reflected on the infamous tickling scene and named it as one of her favorites.

"I really like the way that Emile [Ardolino], the director, captured some of the dynamics between Patrick and me," she told Woman's Day. "When you see him tickling me, and you see how frustrated he was when he looks at me because I cannot stop laughing because I'm ticklish — and then as soon as someone tells you not to laugh it makes you almost anxious and you can't stop laughing — there's something about that realness of that moment being caught."

Beyond the tickle scene, it's well known that Grey and Swayze weren't crazy about working together again, having previously costarred in the 1984 action flick Red Dawn.

"I was cast first, and I thought the part of Johnny Castle was going to be some swarthy, young Latin New Yorker, dangerous type. Not this guy that I just did Red Dawn with from Texas, who's, you know, really bossy and played pranks," Grey told PEOPLE in 2022. "I was scared, because it was my first lead, and I wanted to make sure it would really work. And I knew that I had no chemistry with him, and I knew that I didn't really feel like he was my cup of tea."

Thankfully for both of them, moviegoers disagreed.

Tens of thousands of protestors joined a rally in Tel Aviv on Saturday evening to call for the hostages still held in Gaza to be freed following the release of propaganda videos showing two emaciated Israeli captives.

Videos released by militant groups Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad this week showed Israeli hostages Evyatar David and Rom Braslavski in a visibly fragile state. In one video, David – looking extremely thin – is shown digging a hole for what he says is his own grave.

Attendees of the rally – some holding placards reading "Stop the war" and "Leave no one behind" – watched part of the video featuring David, which had been projected onto a large screen after his family granted permission for it to be viewed.

They are among fifty hostages that remain in the territory, at least 20 of whom are believed to be alive.

In what is likely to be an attempt to pile pressure on Israeli authorities, the militant groups released the videos with ceasefire talks stalled and as Palestinians face a mounting starvation crisis in the enclave. Health officials say 13 people have died from malnutrition in the past 48 hours, including one child, bringing the total death toll from starvation since the conflict began in 2023 to 175.

At the rally, Ofir Braslavski, the father of Rom, said that he did not recognize his son when he first saw him in the video.

"My Rom is hungry for bread, thirsty for water, sick, physically broken and mentally shattered. My child is dying!" he said. "I address you, (Israeli) Prime Minister (Benjamin Netanyahu): Enough! The phased approach to deals has failed.

"Make the decision already – end the war and bring everyone here. The hostages, the fallen soldiers, the fighters, the reservists, and those displaced from their homes. We want to rehabilitate, to return to life, to breathe," he added.

This photo of Israeli hostage Evyatar David is a screengrab from an undated propaganda video published by Hamas on August 1. - Hamas/Hostages and Missing Families Forum'Someone will be to blame,' Witkoff says

Earlier on Saturday, Steve Witkoff, the United States' special envoy to the Middle East, attended Tel Aviv's "Hostage Square" amid the protests, one day after he visited a controversial US-backed aid distribution site in the Gaza Strip.

Witkoff held a "very emotional meeting" that lasted nearly three hours with around 40 representatives of the hostage families, a source who was in attendance at the meeting told CNN.

During the meeting, Witkoff said ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas should be "all or nothing," with all 50 hostages in Gaza being returned to Israel in one go, the Hostages and Missing Families Forum cited him as saying.

"The plan is not to expand the war, but to end it. We think the negotiations should be changed to all or nothing. End the war and bring all 50 hostages home at the same time – that's the only way," Witkoff reportedly said.

When asked, Witkoff's team did not offer any further information on the special envoy's comments.

The hostage families – who have frequently said that ongoing fighting in Gaza endangers their loved ones – on Saturday called for an end to the war in the territory and a "comprehensive deal" that would see the remaining hostages freed.

"Against the backdrop of horrifying footage and harsh reports about the hostages' condition – hostage families will cry out this morning in the heart of Tel Aviv," a statement from Israel's hostage families said. "We appeal to the Israeli government and the US administration – look our loved ones – and us – in the eyes."

Netanyahu spoke with the families of the hostages on Saturday evening and expressed "profound shock" over the harrowing images released by the militants.

He told the families that the "efforts to return all our hostages are ongoing, and will continue constantly and relentlessly," according to the Israeli Prime Minister's Office.

'He has simply been forgotten there'

On Friday, the armed wing of Hamas released an undated video showing 24-year-old David – who was taken hostage at the Nova music festival on October 7, 2023 – being held in a narrow cell. The undated footage of David is juxtaposed with images of starving Palestinian children.

On Saturday, Hamas released a new video featuring David which appears to be a longer version of the video released on Friday.

A similar propaganda video was published by Palestinian Islamic Jihad on Thursday showing Braslavski also in a frail state. Islamic Jihad said it was the last video taken of the hostage before the group lost contact in July with the militants holding him.

Earlier this week, a UN-backed food security agency warned that "the worst case scenario of famine" is unfolding in Gaza, its starkest alert yet as Israel faces growing international pressure to allow more food into the territory.

Hospitals across the Gaza Strip are overwhelmed, with bed occupancy reaching more than 200% at several facilities, according to the enclave's health ministry. Beds are being placed in corridors and on floors to accommodate increasing numbers of patients and casualties, it said.

The Palestinian health ministry said on Saturday that at least 39 people were killed and more than 800 injured in a 24-hour period while waiting for aid in different parts of the territory.

Authorities in Tennessee have arrested a man who threatened to kill public officials and had explosive devices in his Polk County home.

Polk County Sheriff's deputies on Friday executed an arrest warrant for 54-year-old Kevin Wade O'Neal at his house in Old Fort, an unincorporated community about an hour east of Chattanooga, for allegedly threatening to kill public officials and law enforcement personnel, according to a news release.

During the arrest, the deputies observed what appeared to be an improvised explosive device. They alerted the Chattanooga Police Department Bomb Squad and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) for further investigation, officials said.

ATF agents, along with local authorities, searched O'Neal's residence and found 14 explosive devices, the news release said. Investigators also determined that O'Neal attempted to detonate the explosives upon the officers' arrival and while they were attempting to apprehend him.

O'Neal was charged with nine counts of attempted first-degree murder for the nine Polk County Sheriff's detectives and deputies who were present during his arrest.

O'Neal also faces two counts of attempted first-degree murder for other individuals present, and various charges for possession of prohibited weapons. He is being held at the Polk County Jail, and his bond has yet to be determined.

It wasn't immediately clear whether he had an attorney.

K-pop fans of all ages are flocking to the Los Angeles Convention Center this weekend for KCON, the annual three-day festival celebrating Korean music and culture.

The festival consists of all-day activities, including a vendor market of various Korean beauty and food brands, multiple stages showcasing rookie acts and meet and greet sessions. Fans then migrate over to the Crypto.com arena each evening for the M Countdown, the main concert event in which multiple K-pop artists and groups perform.

KCON, which is run by Korean media giant CJ ENM, is held in several countries, with the Los Angeles edition serving as the flagship event. The convention, presented by CJ's Korean beauty products brand Olive Young, continues through Sunday.

On Friday, fans sported white, pink and green Olive Young totes from a large pop-up space promoting the beauty retailer's upcoming U.S. storefront and some of the top brands it carries. They stopped by different booths throughout the convention hall to pick up free samples of products ranging from skincare to the popular spicy Buldak sauce, as well as coupons for a free cake slice from the bakery chain Tous Les Jours and tastings from the food brand Bibigo. Often, the samples had to be acquired through an initial step, like downloading a brand's app or spinning a raffle wheel or playing games.

The performers found themselves up against game rules as well. At the X Stage, artists like So Soo Bin sang and played challenges to help win prizes for audience members. At the Dance Stage sponsored by Jollibee, the group Newbeat competed against a Jollibee mascot to correctly match their dance moves to fast music cues.

For attendees like Prescilla Cobieye, the numerous things to do made for a distinct experience. "It's pretty different from your typical kind of concert," Cobieye, 18, said. "You could see different booths with a bunch of different sponsorships and stuff like that, and you could even see the idols walk in…you can't get that at a regular Kpop concert."

Cobieye is a fan of NCT127 and Zerobaseone, specifically, and attended a meet and greet for the latter band. The meet and greets allow fans to see their favorite artists more up close on a smaller stage within the convention center. "It was something, it was really packed," Cobieye said.

Many families also navigated KCON together like Karsen Lechner, who attended the convention with her daughter in celebration of her sweet 16. "She's pretty much been at the barricade in Artist Stage for most of the day today," Lechner said. The artists Cravity, Lee Young Ji and izna performed on that stage Friday.KCON includes a mix of established and newer acts throughout the weekend.

One buzzy subject that was much-discussed among KCON attendees: "KPop Demon Hunters," the animated movie that bowed on Netflix in June featuring numerous K-pop stars in the voice cast. The success of the film, produced by Sony Music Animation, on Netflix's global platform is seen as a sign of K-pop's enduring strength and a validation of the fandom that engrosses millions of fans who reside far outside the boundaries of South Korea.

Park Chan Uk, who is VP of live entertainment for CJ ENM, said KCON strives to curate different genres and artist types. Fans will see new idol groups but also solo artists for example. "K Con's main purpose, primary purpose, is to introduce and provide a platform for a global success for K-artists, especially the rookie artists. And I think that aim and that target will continue no matter what," he told Variety through a translator.

Of course, the M Countdown is a crucial draw for fans. Melanie Phoutthavong, a 19-year-old fan, traveled from Seattle to attend KCON with her friend. Attending that concert alone makes the whole experience worth it for Phoutthavong: "I know we saw a lot of groups in here, but that concert, it's like the big event. So I'd be happy just to be in there."

Friday night's concert included the acts like NCT127, Zerobaseone, P1Harmony, Baby DONT Cry, Lee Young Ji, NOWZ, IS:SUE and IVE. There was also recognition of Korean film and TV, through the special appearances of actors Lee Byung-hun ("Squid Game," "KPop Demon Hunters" and Park Chan Wook's upcoming "No Other Choice") and Yim Siwan ("Squid Game").

"K-pop, K-movies, K-dramas, K-beauty, K-food. We're always falling deeper in love with K-culture and at the center of it, all this, is KCON," Lee said in his remarks, which opened the concert. "For 13 years, since 2012, KCON has connected artists and fans across the globe."

Yim, who began as a K-pop singer before transitioning to acting, acknowledged his K-pop roots when he appeared later on during the show. "Maybe that's why the stage still gives me butterflies," he said. He shouted out the night's many performances, including the group izna's rendition of the song "Golden" from the Netflix film "KPop Demon Hunters" which occurred soon after Yim's speech.

NCT127, whose performances were incorporated throughout the concert, closed it with the song "Fact Check." They were joined by fans who had competed earlier to be able to dance alongside the group. For K-pop fans, the genre remains a way to be open about one's favorite artists. "I would say it's very comforting being in a community where you can just express your love for music and just your interests in general. And there's no shame here," Phoutthavong said.

MIAMI (AP) — Rookie Agustín Ramírez homered twice for the only runs of the game and the Miami Marlins beat the New York Yankees 2-0 on Saturday.

Eury Pérez pitched six innings of two-hit ball as the Marlins won their fourth straight and clinched the series against the Yankees following Friday's 13-12 series-opening win.

After experiencing problems with his pitchcom device that caused three brief delays in the first inning, Pérez (4-3) struck out six and walked three in his 88-pitch outing.

Relievers Ronny Henriquez and Tyler Phillips followed Pérez with perfect innings before Calvin Faucher retired the three batters he faced in the ninth for his 11th save.

Miami has won six consecutive series and is 29-14 since June 13.

The Marlins struck quickly when Ramírez connected off Yankees starter Cam Schlittler in the first. Ramírez drove a fastball 421 feet into the left-center field seats for his 16th homer.

Ramírez hit another solo drive against Schlittler (1-2) in the fourth.

Making his fourth major league start since being promoted from Triple-A on July 9, Schlittler allowed two runs and four hits while striking out six in five innings.

Saturday's announced attendance of 34,645 surpassed the Marlins' previous season-home high of 32,299 in Friday's opener against New York.

Key moment

Pérez struck out Ryan McMahon and retired Anthony Volpe on a groundout after he allowed a one-out double to Ben Rice and walked Paul Goldschmidt in the fifth.

Key stat

Marlins left fielder Kyle Stowers had his sixth assist of the season when he threw out Trent Grisham at the plate as he attempted to score from second on Giancarlo Stanton's single in the first.

Up next

RHP Luis Gil will make his season debut when he starts the series finale for the Yankees on Sunday. The reigning AL Rookie of the Year has been sidelined since spring training because of a lat strain. The Marlins will go with RHP Edward Cabrera (4-5, 3.35).

Cameron Young is in ideal position for his first PGA Tour victory after threatening to run away from the pack at the Wyndham Championship.

Young shot 5-under-par 65 in Saturday's third round at Greensboro, N.C.

Young is at 20-under 190 for a five-stroke advantage on Colombia's Nico Echavarria. Young has been a runner-up seven times since joining the tour in 2022.

Chris Kirk (67), Mac Meissner (70) and defending champion Aaron Rai (69) of England are tied for third at 12 under.

Young, who was at 15 under through the first two rounds with the 125 matching the tournament's 36-hole scoring record, was tearing through Sedgefield Country Club. Through six holes of the third round, Young's margin rose to eight strokes on a quintet that was trying to keep him in their sights.

But Echavarria, who shot 64, had birdies on four of the final seven holes to rise into contention. He saw a leaderboard during his round when he was in second place -- but eight strokes behind Young.

"That's not normal for a PGA Tour event," Echavarria said. "He's playing well. But there are still 18 more holes to go."

Young had birdies on Nos. 3-6. Until the 15th hole Saturday, Young's lone bogey in the tournament came on No. 1 (his 10th hole) of the first round Thursday. He later added two birdies.

Young, 28, played collegiately at nearby Wake Forest. He had three holes to finish in the second round Saturday morning before the third round.

Rai lost momentum he had in the second round when he came back to complete that round. Then in the third round, he was 2 over through 12 holes before three consecutive birdies put him back in the mix.

Amateur Jackson Koivun, a college golfer for Auburn, shot 65 and is alone in sixth place at 11 under.

"It's just a lot of fun out here," Koivun, 20, said. "At the end of the day, I feel I can come out here and compete. Always that learning curve (because) these guys are really good. I'm just happy to be out there with that later tee time and see what I can do."

South Korea's Sungae Im, after a pair of 64s and playing in the final group in the third round, dipped with a 73.

It was a long day at the course. Some golfers had as many as eight holes to complete in the second round, which was suspended Friday afternoon because of storms. Tom Kim withdrew rather than completing the second round.

The third round used threesomes, starting on the first and 10th tees.

The Wyndham Championship marks the last tournament on the PGA Tour's regular season, so there will be crucial developments throughout Sunday's round as golfers aim to secure spots in the top 70 in the FedEx Cup standings in order to qualify for the postseason.

After Saturday's third-round 70, Gary Woodland is right at No. 70 in the standings. He's at 9 under for the tournament.

"I think I know I'm playing well," Woodland said. "I can rely on that."

There hasn't been a golfer on the PGA Tour with a five-stroke lead or better through 54 fail to win since 2022. There were only 11 birdies on No. 18 in the third round, so golfers will want to make their moves as soon as possible Sunday.

BOSTON (AP) — Romy Gonzalez homered over the Green Monster on the first pitch faced by a Boston batter, Trevor Story added a two-run shot, and the Red Sox beat the Houston Astros 7-3 on Saturday.

Abraham Toro added a two-run drive — one of three homers the Red Sox hit over Fenway Park's fabled left-field wall — and Story added an RBI double as Boston won its third straight.

Houston's Christian Walker homered for the second straight day, a two-run shot off Walker Buehler in the first inning.

The benches and bullpens cleared when Astros reliever Héctor Neris yelled at the Red Sox dugout and third-base coach Kyle Hudson at the end of the seventh. But order was quickly restored.

After beating the AL West leaders on Roman Anthony's walk-off single in the series opener on Friday night, the Red Sox erased a quick 2-0 deficit when Story hit his drive in a three-run third against Colton Gordon (4-4) that pushed Boston ahead 4-2.

Story's shot hit the top of a billboard over the Monster seats and bounced out of Fenway after Rob Refsnyder's RBI single.

Justin Wilson (3-1) came on in the fifth inning with runners on second and third with Boston leading 6-3 and struck out the only two batters he faced. Aroldis Chapman got the final two outs for his 20th save.

Gordon gave up six runs in four-plus innings.

Key moment

The Astros loaded the bases in the eighth against Jordan Hicks, but Carlos Correa struck out looking on a 99 mph fastball.

Key stat

Boston's bullpen went 4 2/3 scoreless innings.

Up next

Astros LHP Framber Valdez (11-4, 2.62 ERA) is set to face Red Sox RHP Lucas Giolito (7-2, 3.80) on Sunday in the series finale.
