AJLT Fans Have a Theory About How Show Will End HBO

And just like that, it's time to say goodbye to Carrie Bradshaw and the girlies. After three series, it's been confirmed that And Just Like That... will wrap up for good this month, with showrunner Michael Patrick King announcing that the "Sex and the City universe" is coming to an end. RIP.

Despite the (very!) mixed reviews the SATC spin-off has received since it started airing in 2021, fans have understandably been quite cut up about bidding farewell to these iconic characters—more on their reactions in a moment.

That being said, after decades in the SATC universe, it's only natural that viewers are theorizing about how the show will close, and one theory seems to be pretty prominent, especially among Samantha Jones fans.

"And Just Like That needs to end with Samantha waking up and saying 'What a horrible dream!?'" one fan suggested on X, referencing the absence of Kim Cattrall's legendary character.

But for real, And Just Like That should end with Samantha waking up from a three year long coma and going "I just had the worst dream". And then smash to black.

— sam greisman (@SAMGREIS) August 1, 2025

"But for real, And Just Like That should end with Samantha waking up from a three year long coma and going: 'I just had the worst dream'. And then smash to black," another fan agreed, as someone else shared: "It should end with a Samantha scene!! She was the show!!"

Other viewers hope that we'll see the show switch to Samantha's life in London, although, given the wording that the entire SATC "universe" is coming to an end, that might be unrealistic. "It'd be even better if they could pass the baton over to Samantha in London for the last hour of show – we get a tiny glimpse into her wonderful sex life with a younger man, her social life with Black and gay friends, her office fling with an older man coz duh, she trying poly!" one fan suggested, as another wrote, "I'd like a Samantha spin off."

Elsewhere, another viewer pointed to how relieved the actress who played her must be feeling. "Kim Cattrall after seeing this news, realizing no one will ever bother her about playing Samantha Jones again," they posted.

Doyle Rice, USA TODAY August 5, 2025 at 12:27 AM

As Tropical Storm Dexter races out to sea away from the United States, hurricane forecasters Aug. 4 were watching two other areas of potential concern in the Atlantic, which if they form, could be named Erin and Fernand.

One, a tropical wave that's just recently moved off the coast of Africa, could develop into a named storm in the central Atlantic by later in the week, some forecast models show.

The second is a developing area of low pressure much closer to home, off the Southeast U.S. coast ‒ a system that promises a dreary week of weather for hordes of beachgoers.

"We are now moving into a more active period (of the) Atlantic hurricane season," said Weather Trader meteorologist Ryan Maue in an Aug. 4 email to USA TODAY.

Dexter heads out to sea

"Dexter is already exiting stage right, moving east northeast around 10 to 15 mph," said Houston-based meteorologist Matt Lanza in an Aug. 4 newsletter post. "By the end of the week, Dexter should be post-tropical. Eventually, this will probably end up in the British Isles, either as part of another typical European storm or as a passing disturbance. Either way, it's mostly just a curiosity than anything else."

WPLG-TV hurricane specialist Michael Lowry, in an email to USA TODAY, said that "Dexter, while posing no threat to land, is the opening act for the show the Atlantic's threatening to put on behind it."

In addition to Tropical Storm Dexter, the National Hurricane Center is also monitoring two other areas of tropical concern in the Atlantic (yellow and orange areas.)Out of Africa

Exiting the coast of Africa late on Aug. 3 was a robust tropical wave that models suggest has a good chance of becoming a named storm (likely Erin) and possibly our first hurricane by Aug. 9 to 11 over the central Atlantic, Lowry said.

"In a few days, environmental conditions are forecast to become favorable for gradual development of this system, and a tropical depression could form by the latter portion of this week as it moves generally west-northwestward across the central tropical Atlantic," the National Hurricane Center said.

Beyond Aug. 11, forecast models diverge, with the Euro curling the system out to sea and the American GFS continuing a track west-northwestward toward the U.S. East Coast, Lowry reported.

"We won't have much confidence in a forecast for this one till we see if something actually develops and where," said University of Miami meteorologist Andy Hazelton in a post on X.

More: A key sign of hurricane activity has flipped into high gear

Soggy Southeast

The National Hurricane Center has also highlighted an area of concern off the Southeast U.S. coast.

The hurricane center has given the system a 30% chance of development, and models support "something" weak developing and then moving westward, which equals more rainfall for drenched Georgia, Florida, and Carolinas, but the upper-level environment (for full tropical development) is hostile, said Maue.

Later in the first week of August, we're probably going to see a weak area of low pressure develop along a remnant stationary front off the Southeast U.S. coast, Lanza said. "Unlike Dexter, this won't get whisked out to sea. Rather, it looks likely to just kind of sit and spin for a bit."

If it gets a name, which seems unlikely at this point, it might be Fernand, depending on when Erin gets named.

Regardless of whether it gets a name, "this may make for a somewhat dreary week along the Carolina coast," Lanza said. "Rain totals may begin to add up some in this area as well through the week."

The European Union announced Monday it was pausing a plan to impose retaliatory tariffs on U.S. goods as it continued trade negotiations with the Trump administration.

In a statement, the European Commission spokesperson for trade said the planned countermeasures against the U.S., which were set to take effect Thursday, would now be suspended for six months.

The announcement helped propel stocks higher Monday, with major indexes all gaining about 1%.

On July 27, Trump announced an agreement with the E.U. — America's largest trading partner — that included a baseline tariff of 15%, down from a threatened 30%, and a pledge by the bloc to buy $750 billion of U.S. energy products and invest an additional $600 billion in unspecified U.S. projects.

In return, Trump said, the E.U. promised to remove tariffs on U.S. industrial goods.

The commission trade spokesperson said Monday it was still working on finalizing a joint statement with the Trump administration.

There has been no letup in Trump's aggressive trade posture. The president also announced Monday he would ratchet up trade duties on India over allegations it was illicitly reselling Russian oil, something he said was helping fuel Russia's war effort in Ukraine.

The other new measures Trump announced last week, including a 15% tariff rate on some four dozen countries with which the U.S. currently has a trade deficit, are set to take effect Thursday.

David Roach, the raspy-voiced frontman who led '80s Sunset Strip rockers Junkyard to acclaim, has died. He was 59.

His bandmates announced the news in a heartfelt Saturday post shared to X and Instagram.

"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Roach," their statement began. "After a courageous battle with cancer, David passed away peacefully last night at home, in the loving arms of his wife."

They concluded, "He was a gifted artist, performer, songwriter, and singer — but above all, a devoted father, husband, and brother. Our thoughts are with the entire Roach family and everyone who loved him."

News of the singer's death comes two weeks after he tied the knot with his fiancée, Jennifer. In a July 20 post, it was revealed that the couple said "I do" at a ceremony attended by Roach's bandmates.

Months prior, Roach had opened up about receiving an "aggressive cancer diagnosis." The post to the band's website also directed fans to a GoFundMe created to support Roach as he sought treatment for "aggressive squamous cell carcinoma affecting his head, neck and throat." The page raised more than $35,000 toward the $50,000 goal intended to help with "the overwhelming medical expenses."

The most recent post to the fundraiser page, dated July 21, comes from Roach's wife, who thanks fans for their support and kind messages.

"David is in good spirits, keeping his humor alive, and currently enjoying time spent with his close family," she wrote at the time. "We're optimistic about coming home from the hospital within the next few days and we are definitely not giving up on this fight!"

Hailing from Austin, Texas, Roach co-founded Junkyard in Los Angeles in 1987. The group's core lineup included Roach on vocals, Chris Gates and Brian Baker on guitar, Clay Anthony on bass, and Patrick Muzingo on drums.

Together, they soon became a recognizable name in the city's Sunset Strip music scene, then a popular place for on-the-rise hard rock acts. Junkyard signed with Geffen Records, and their self-titled debut album arrived in 1989. It was a modest success, peaking at No. 105 on the Billboard 200, with singles including "Blooze," "Hollywood, "and "Simple Man."

It was followed by Sixes, Sevens & Nines, which didn't chart, but spawned their popular single, "All the Time in the World."

They were soon dropped by Geffen and split up in 1992, with their unreleased third album already ready to go. It was eventually independently released in 1998 and the band officially reformed to tour the world together two years later, now with Tim Mosher on guitar and Todd Muscat on bass. They would next put out a comeback album, High Water, in 2017.

"There's a diehard fan base that never stopped digging us," Mosher told Billboard that year. "During our sporadic touring we would always come across fans asking us when we would release a proper full-length. We've been writing new songs for the last couple of years and looked at this as a chance to do a real third Junkyard album."

In the years that followed, the band periodically performed together and released new music.

On Sunday, Roach's former bandmate Gates — who was part of the Junkyard lineup from 1987 to 2009 — paid tribute to the singer on Facebook.

"I'm saddened to hear the news that David Roach has passed, but I'm grateful that he's no longer suffering," he wrote. "When I moved to LA, no one wanted to play with the fat guy from Texas. Then I heard David was moving out and I spent a couple of weeks tracking down a phone number for him. I called and told him we should start a band when he got to town. The rest is history."

He continued, "I loved him like a little brother. We had our ups and downs, but that never changed. My condolences to his brother and sisters, v and to the people who [loved] him or were touched by his/or songs. I'll miss playing music with him, but he'll always be an important part of me."

UTICA, N.Y. (AP) — A former corrections officer was sentenced to 15 years in prison Monday for his role in the death of a Black inmate whose beating by a group of guards at an upstate New York prison was captured on bodycam videos.

Christopher Walrath was one of six guards charged with murder in the death of Robert Brooks, who was pummeled at the Marcy Correctional Facility on Dec. 9. Walrath pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in May under the first plea deal among the guards charged with murder.

"In that video, I see you and your fellow officers treating him as if his life holds no value at all, as if you're entitled to brutalize him for sport," Robert Brooks Jr., the victim's son, told the court.

The son said in his victim impact statement that, "I am not OK and I never will be."

Brooks had been serving a 12-year sentence for first-degree assault since 2017 and was transferred to Marcy from a nearby lockup on the night he was beaten. The videos show Brooks being struck in the chest with a shoe, lifted by his neck and then dropped.

Under questioning in May from Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick, Walrath admitted that he and other guards assaulted Brooks, that he put Brooks in a chokehold, and that he struck the inmate's body and groin.

In addition to the six guards charged in February with murder, three more prison workers were indicted for manslaughter and another for evidence tampering. Prosecutors have said three other prison workers have reached agreements.

A guard pleaded guilty in May to attempted tampering with physical evidence and was sentenced to a one-year conditional discharge.

Trials were scheduled to begin in October for guards who have rejected plea deals.

Fitzpatrick also is prosecuting guards in the fatal beating of Messiah Nantwi on March 1 at another Marcy lockup, the Mid-State Correctional Facility. Ten guards were indicted in April, including two who are charged with murder.

Both prisons are about 180 miles (290 kilometers) northwest of New York City.

The fan-favorite pair were also joined by SVU alum and Organized Crime star Dann Florek, who has played Capt. Donald Cragen since the 1999 premiere of SVU

SVU season 27 is slated to premiere on Sept. 25.

BenStabler fans, rejoice!

On Sunday, Aug. 3, Mariska Hargitay was joined on the set of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit season 27 by none other than Christopher Meloni. The fan-favorite pair's reunion delighted fans, who love seeing Hargitay's Olivia Benson and Meloni's Elliot Stabler together again, 14 years after Meloni left SVU following season 12.

In photos from the set, the actors were seen embracing both on-camera and off, as well as joking around with each other.

In a few shots, they sat close on director's chairs and caught up off-camera, and they appeared particularly close while filming one scene, where Meloni, 64, had his arms wrapped around Hargitay, 61, as they looked into each other's eyes.

Meloni teased his upcoming return to SVU in an Instagram post.

On Saturday, Aug. 2, the actor shared three selfies from the set of the long-running series — a solo with Hargitay; a group shot with Law & Order: Organized Crime star and fellow SVU alum Dann Florek; and a solo with Florek.

Florek, who has played Capt. Donald Cragen since the 1999 premiere of SVU, left the show in 2015 and last appeared three years ago in season 23, so his presence on set also excited fans who are eager to see him reunite with Olivia.

Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni are seen on the film set of the TV series "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit" on August 03, 2025 in New York City.

"Hangin with friends on a Friday nite," Meloni wrote in the post's caption, tagging both Hargiaty and Florek, 75.

The reunion delighted fans, who filled the comments with love and, as always, begged Meloni to return as a regular on SVU.

Hargitay and Meloni's onscreen reunion comes after the actress finally weighed in on when she'd want to see her character finally get romantic with Stabler.

On Call Her Daddy in June, host Alex Cooper asked Hargitay if she and Meloni's characters will "ever end up together," and she gave a real answer.

"Maybe on the last episode," she said. "I think that's when they should be together."

Still, that necessitates that the story is "right" for the two of them to finally give it a go. "We'll see when we get there," she said.

Of her relationship with her costar, Hargitay said she and Meloni are "soulmates."

"And I think that. I mean, Chris has had a profound impact on my life, my artistry. I think we've had a big impact on each other."

She also reflected on how difficult it was when Meloni left SVU in 2012, as she admitted she was "devastated" by his exit.

During the same podcast episode, Hargitay said she and Meloni "know each other so well" and "love each other so much," which made his departure from SVU particularly difficult, even though he was "ready to go."

"Obviously, the entire world was just devastated. I was devastated," she said.

The shock factor didn't help. "It happened very quickly, and it was surprising. It was over a negotiation," she said. "And I tried everything I could to fix it and change it. He left. I was devastated."
