"After all I've contributed to the tournament and been an ambassador for them, I can't go and have a practice round there with my three grandchildren…It's terribly, terribly sad," said Gary Player, as he was surprised by the mistreatment he received at Augusta National. A three-time Masters Tournament champion, he has always had issues with the course management. And the Black Knight reiterated the same moments before he celebrated his 90th birthday.

Speaking to Adam Schupak from Golfweek, he was asked what legacy he would like to leave behind upon his passing. Player told Schupak, "I hope I'm the head pro at Augusta. But they won't let me play a single round with my three grandchildren, so they're not going to let me be the head pro there." Perplexed by the issue, the reporter asked why that was the case. Player replied, "That's something you have to ask Augusta, not me."

For a fact, it's not like Gary Player is not an honorary member of Augusta National. The Big Three achieved that honor a long time back. But, as he had explained in his previous interviews, every time he approached them to book a tee time to play with his grandchildren, Augusta National always came up with an excuse to turn him down. Eventually, Player just gave up and realized that he is not welcome on the iconic course, despite being an honorary member.

In fact, his animosity towards the course is such that he doesn't even rate the prestigious major anymore. When he was asked to rank the four majors, Player replied, "I rate the Open at one, the U.S. Open two, PGA three, and Augusta four." His response received a lot of negative reactions, as there is a common belief in the golf community that the Masters Tournament can't be ranked lower than the second spot.

All the controversies aside, it's not uncommon for Gary Player to make surprising claims. Even if they go against the common belief of the golf community. In fact, he made another statement recently that may have shocked a few netizens.

Gary Player doesn't shy away from speaking his mind

It's not uncommon for Gary Player to make surprising claims or reveal shocking information. Many were surprised when he confirmed that he was in love again at 89 back in late 2024 and revealed his new girlfriend, Susan, to the world. A few weeks later, on Valentine's Day, he shared a beautiful montage slideshow on Instagram dedicated to his late wife, Vivienne Verwey, as he celebrated their relationship.

Only a few hours ago, another one of Player's interviews revealed that he said something even more surprising. He stated, "In 1953, when I started it, I was condemned. Arnold Palmer, my brother, said, 'Gary, you can't do this weight training.' Bobby Jones said, 'Gary, you can't do all this weight training. You're going to get muscle-bound. You won't win tournaments after 35.' Well, they're all dead and I'm still going." Even though Gary Player's statement about Arnold Palmer & Bobby Jones is true, his bluntness often takes many by surprise as he continues to live with a free mind like he always did.

TORONTO (AP) — One loss from elimination, the Los Angeles Dodgers are shaking up their lineup again for Game 6 of the World Series at Toronto on Friday night.

After moving from second to third in the order in Wednesday's Game 5 loss, shortstop Mookie Betts dropped into the cleanup spot Friday against Blue Jays right-hander Kevin Gausman.

Betts had not hit as low as fourth since the final game of the 2017 American League Division Series against Houston.

Game 5 was the first time since 2021 that Betts started but wasn't in one of the top two spots in Los Angeles' lineup. Betts is 3 for 23 with no RBIs and no extra-base hits in the World Series.

Catcher Will Smith was set to bat second for the second straight game. Freddie Freeman moved from fourth to third.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said he wanted to give leadoff hitter Shohei Ohtani, Smith and Freeman the chance to get on base in front of Betts, adding that Betts had a good day of work on Thursday's off day.

"Where his swing is at mechanically is as good as it's been in a week," Roberts said. "I really feel good about that."

Tommy Edman moved from second base to center field, his first outfield start this postseason, and was set to bat eighth. Miguel Rojas made his first start of the World Series at second base, batting ninth.

"I just really wanted Miggy in there," Roberts said. "He's been a glue guy for our club this year and I just feel that having him in the lineup infuses some extra intensity and energy into the lineup, on the defensive side, too."

The Dodgers shuffled their lineup before Game 5 but had just four hits in a 6-1 loss. Los Angeles had six hits in a 6-2 defeat in Game 4.

Los Angeles is batting .236 as a team through 15 games this October. Dodgers batters have struck out 148 times in 533 at-bats.

Roberts also said Ohtani would not be available to pitch Friday. Ohtani took the loss in Tuesday's Game 4, allowing four runs and six hits in six innings.

Straight Pride™ ended when Maddy Morphosis sashayed away from *RuPaul's Drag Race* season 14.

Though many fan-generated memes suggested otherwise, RuPaul's three-time Emmy-winning fashion mastermind Zaldy tells EW the *Drag Race *host's now-iconic patchwork dress from the April 8 "Catwalk" episode was not, in fact, a tribute to Maddy's affectionately derided, country-friend Glamazon Prime creation from episode 6.

"That's purely coincidence. There are two different things: Yes, it's the same kind of [aesthetic] muse, but that look for Ru, we always love a coat of many colors as a reference," Zaldy says on the new episode of EW's BINGE podcast above, adding that the final creation was actually an intricately crafted tapestry of several past looks RuPaul has worn over the years.

RuPaul's Drag Race

RuPaul's season 14 patch dress was not a tribute to Maddy Morphosis, says Zaldy. World of Wonder/VH1 (2)

"We created it because, every now and again, I save so many of the scraps of things we use for Ru outfits because I think they're just so beautiful," Zaldy continues, noting that there are pieces of Ru's favorite dress — the pink and orange leopard number remixed by Shea Couleé on last week's *All Stars 7* episode — spread throughout the design. "That one, if you look closely, does have these sacred pieces of the hand-painted leopard [dress] in that look. That look is very designed. It has gradating diamond patterns that get smaller toward the top. It's very involved. It's not [just] a patchwork thrown together."

Zaldy, who's worked with RuPaul for decades, also revealed that Shea's *All Stars 7* recreation shook him the hardest, with her hand-crafted "gradation of the scale of the spots" giving him "goosebumps" as he watched her re-design RuPaul's favorite look of all time.

As for the rest of the all-winners cast, who were also tasked with re-interpreting famous RuPaul looks, Zaldy commended them for not simply remixing the clothes, but tailoring them to fit their personal aesthetics.

"If I'm going for who was the most glamorous vision, it was definitely Jaida [Essence Hall]," he observes. "When she came out with that little, tiny mini fur and tied it back to a Diana Ross hairstyle, it was just an incredible, visually stunning look. So was Trinity [The Tuck's], this outrageous head-to-toe look. Everybody really had a moment. I was really impressed with their thought process and their interpretation. Everybody did something I was really touched by."

Though he steers the ship when it comes to RuPaul's closet, he clarifies with a laugh that he isn't the one who put RuPaul in flip-flops and a tracksuit for the Fairytale Justice challenge several episodes ago.

"Ru likes to play, too," he says. "Ru loves fashion, and Ru plays. She loves it. That's 100 percent Ru.... I don't put anybody in flip-flops!"

BenDeLaCreme threw a (loving) banana peel under Jinkx Monsoon's tires as she prepared to compete on *RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 7*.

The season 6 and *All Stars 3* alum exclusively tells EW's BINGE podcast (below) that she helped shape elements of her longtime friend and collaborator's *AS7* runway collection, particularly her porcupine gown for the Spikes on the Runway theme which, according to DeLa, almost looked very, *very* different.

"I actually designed that porcupine outfit, I just drew out a picture for her because I was like, Jinkx, you cannot do the thing you're planning on, which is that she she was going to dress like the spiky tortoise shell from *Mario Kart*. I was like, if you do that, we're over, that is it. I'm breaking up with you. So, I made her a porcupine idea!" DeLa says. "It's like a thing you throw in *Mario Kart*. I was like, Jinkx, this is such an arbitrary reference and also just the worst color combination."

DeLa says that she and Jinkx worked on other looks she debuted on *All Stars 7* as well, mostly chatting through ideas and concepts.

"I'm so glad that we spent the time brainstorming, because we talked about doing multiple seasons like Jaida did. She wanted to do an *Into the Woods* witch and I was like, I think someone else is going to do it," DeLa recalls. "I'm so glad that we talked through those ideas and she didn't wind up doing the same thing."

Jinkx Monsoon models her AS7 Spikes on the Runway outfit designed by BenDeLaCreme. World of Wonder/Paramount+

Since competing on separate seasons of *Drag Race*, Jinkx and DeLa have worked together to successfully snatch the Christmas crown from Santa across multiple projects, including their traveling *To Jesus, Thanks for Everything* and *All I Want for Christmas Is Attention* tours, guest roles in Clea DuVall's Kristen Stewart-starring Christmas rom-com *Happiest Season*, and a film version of *The Jinkx & DeLa Holiday Show*, which streamed on Hulu through Christmas in 2020. They return to the stage for *The Jinkx & DeLa Holiday Show* 2022 tour later this year.

Their work outside of *Drag Race* speaks for itself, but they're also not entirely opposed to competing again — as long as they do it together.

"The answer is, I guess, like, sure, I don't know!" DeLa says when asked about the ongoing fan fantasy involving a "Best Friends" edition of *Drag Race*. "It's not something that either of us are campaigning for. I do think it could be fun, but I would need a contractual guarantee that the same [non-elimination] rules as* All Stars 7 *apply."

Shea Couleé didn't come to play with petty fans, she came to slay the trolls questioning her status as one of the all-time *RuPaul's Drag Race* greats.

RuPaul shook the *All Stars 7 *competition Friday by awarding Shea with three Legendary Legend Stars instead of the usual single-star prize, thus boosting her from last place into one of the top four slots in the upcoming finale. Now, the season 9 alum exclusively tells EW's BINGE podcast (below) how she feels about "fans" attempting to invalidate her progress.

"Immediately, I was already thinking that I want to be in the finale, but I had this gut feeling that for me there will be people who want to discredit or disagree," Shea says of feeling anxiety over the situation during production. "I had to go in there and focus and live up to the agreement that I made to myself that no matter what I was going to give 100 percent, and that's what I did."

The *All Stars 5* champion adds that the three-star twist initially felt like a "strange handout" for her show-stopping variety show performance of her original song "Your Name," but only because Shea is "hard on [her]self" in the context of a competition.

"People [are questioning], 'Did she really deserve those three stars?' I already knew that discourse would happen, and I felt in the moment like, here we go, if I win these, it almost feels like I won't be able to win because people who are fans of the other contestants are immediately going to try to discredit my win," she remembers, later stressing that there's no way for fans to have the full scope of experience that the queens have while filming episodes for hours on end.

"We were the ones who were there for the whole experience," she continues. "There's so much, so I have to finally separate myself and my personal experience and the perception delivered to the fans, because they're forming their opinions based off of what they see.... I can understand how they feel that way. Going as far as to say what someone does or doesn't deserve, that's not language I'd personally use in my life, but I have different experiences than these fans. These fans don't know what it's like."

Two federal judges said Friday that the Trump administration must tap into billions of dollars in emergency funds to at least partially cover food stamp benefits for tens of millions of Americans in November.

The rulings from judges in Massachusetts and Rhode Island reject a controversial US Department of Agriculture claim that it could not use a contingency fund, which the agency says has $5.3 billion remaining in it, to help cover the benefits amid the month-long government shutdown.

Hours later, President Donald Trump said he has instructed the administration's lawyers to ask the courts how it can legally fund the benefits as quickly as possible because the attorneys "do not think we have the legal authority to pay SNAP with certain monies we have available."

"Even if we get immediate guidance, it will unfortunately be delayed while States get the money out," Trump posted on Truth Social Friday evening. "If we are given the appropriate legal direction by the Court, it will BE MY HONOR to provide the funding, just like I did with Military and Law Enforcement Pay."

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, costs between $8 billion and $9 billion a month, so the judges' orders will not cover all of the needed payments for November.

"There is no doubt that the … contingency funds are appropriated funds that are without a doubt necessary to carry out the program's operation." US District Judge John McConnell in Rhode Island said. "The shutdown of the government through funding doesn't do away with SNAP, it just does away with the funding of it."

During proceedings Friday, McConnell said he was ordering the government to use the contingency fund to ensure some benefits could be distributed starting November 1.

McConnell's ruling during a hastily scheduled hearing came minutes after US District Judge Indira Talwani in Boston made a similar order. Both judges, appointees of President Barack Obama, also said that USDA is allowed to tap into another bucket of money of nearly $17 billion to pay November SNAP benefits in full, but that decision is currently up to the administration.

Though Talwani stopped short on Friday of requiring the administration to tap into the contingency fund, she said the USDA was required to use money in that rainy-day fund to partially cover November benefits and gave it until Monday to decide whether it would use only those funds or also dip into a separate pot of money.

"This court has now clarified that Defendants are required to use those Contingency Funds as necessary for the SNAP program. And while these contingency funds reportedly are insufficient to cover the entire cost of SNAP for November, Defendants also may supplement the Contingency Funds by authorizing a transfer of additional funds … to avoid any reductions," Talwani said in a 15-page order.

The Trump administration opposes tapping into those other funds, arguing in court it will hurt the child nutrition programs that the revenue supports.

Even with Trump's directive and the judge's rulings, millions of recipients will still face delays in getting their benefits, which were scheduled to start being distributed on November 1. It will take time for the Department of Agriculture and states to get the money flowing again.

In the program's decades-long history, a government shutdown has never prevented it from distributing SNAP funds to states, which administer the benefits, though the program was at risk during the 2018-2019 impasse.

The Boston lawsuit was filed earlier this week by a group of Democratic attorneys general and governors from 25 states and Washington, DC, while the case in Rhode Island was brought Thursday by a coalition of cities, non-profits, unions and small businesses.

As the government shutdown nears its one-month mark, courts are increasingly being asked to intervene to stave off a series of dramatic developments. Earlier this week, a federal judge in California indefinitely blocked the administration from laying off thousands of federal workers, saying the government was unlawfully using the shutdown as legal justification for the layoffs.

The administration could seek appeals. Asked earlier Friday by CNN what the department would do if courts required USDA to tap into the contingency fund, Secretary Brooke Rollins said, "We're looking at all the options."

Delayed payments

States stopped the process of issuing benefits for November after the USDA sent them a letter on October 10 ordering them to do so. States send SNAP enrollees' information to vendors every month so they can load funds onto recipients' benefit cards.

Each state has a specific date by which they must send the information ahead of the new month in order for benefits to go out on time, according to the lawsuit. Payments are made on a staggered basis throughout the month.

Talwani acknowledged the likely delay in benefits during a hearing Thursday, and also asked about the process of providing partial payments to recipients next month since the contingency fund alone won't cover the full amount.

"We're dealing with the reality that … the benefits aren't going to be there on November 1," she said.

This story has been with additional developments.

New York Attorney General Letitia James is challenging the legitimacy of the acting U.S. attorney in Albany as she pushes back against the Trump administration's investigation of cases she brought against the president and the National Rifle Association, according to court documents unsealed Friday.

James in August filed a motion to block subpoenas issued by acting U.S. Attorney John Sarcone for records related to the legal actions, claiming the Justice Department's probe of the cases was retaliatory.

She also argued that Sarcone had been improperly appointed to his position and, as a result, lacked legitimate authority to authorize the subpoenas.

The subpoenas seek records related to a major civil case the Democrat James filed against President Donald Trump over alleged fraud in his personal business dealings. Another subpoena seeks records from a lawsuit involving the National Rifle Association and two senior executives.

Dozens of court documents in the case have been filed under seal in U.S. District Court since August. A federal judge in Manhattan late Friday granted James' motion to unseal most of the entries, making them public over the objection of the Justice Department.

Judge Lorna Schofield, however, has not yet ruled on the motion to quash the subpoenas.

"Unsealing this action is not only permissible but compelled," she wrote. "One simple fact drives this conclusion: the information at issue is not secret."

An email seeking comment was sent to Sarcone's office. A phone message was not immediately returned late Friday.

James has accused the Trump administration of using the justice system as a "tool of revenge" against adversaries. The attorney general has sued Trump and his Republican administration dozens of times over his policies as president and over how he conducted his private business empire.

In October, James was indicted in a federal mortgage fraud case the president pressed the Justice Department to bring. She pleaded not guilty Monday allegations she lied on mortgage papers to get favorable loan terms when purchasing a house in Norfolk, Virginia, where she has family.

In her motion to quash Sarcone's subpoenas, James cited anonymous media reports that they were part of a grand jury investigation into allegations that James violated Trump's civil rights in 2022 when her office sued Trump, then a private businessman.

She argued Sarcone lacked authority to issue the subpoenas because he was improperly appointed by the Trump administration.

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi appointed Sarcone to serve as the interim U.S. attorney for the Northern District of New York in March. With the expiration of the 120-day interim term, Bondi designated him as first assistant U.S. attorney for the district, essentially improperly extending his role as acting U.S. attorney, according to James.

James' lawyers in the mortgage fraud case have said they intend to challenge the appointment of the prosecutor, Lindsey Halligan, on similar grounds.

The indictment in that case followed the resignation of Erik Siebert as U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia. Siebert was replaced with Halligan, a White House aide and former Trump lawyer who had never previously served as a federal prosecutor, and presented James' case to the grand jury herself.
