It's been a long 2025NFLseason so far with twists, turns, shocking injuries, surprising contenders and disappointing years from preseason favorites.

As we come off another intriguing week of action across the league and approach the end of the season, the playoff picture is becoming more and more clear.

With just one week of the NFL regular season left, who's in, who's out and who still has a shot at making a postseason run for a spot in Super Bowl LX and a chance to lift the Vince Lombardi Trophy on February 8 at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

Who's in?

(All teams listed by current seeding in each conference)

1.Denver Broncos(13-3, 1st AFC West): The Broncos already qualified for the postseason but still beat thePatrick Mahomes-lessKansas City Chiefs 20-13 on Friday. A win against the Los Angeles Chargers at Mile High in Week 18 will earn Denver top seed status in the AFC.

2.New England Patriots(13-3, 1st AFC East): New England will be lurking should Denver fail to wrap up the conference and the Pats will play the Miami Dolphins to close out the season.

3.Jacksonville Jaguars(12-4, 1st AFC South): The Jags are also still in the running for the first-round bye after beating the Indianapolis Colts in Week 17. They now host the Tennessee Titans in Week 18.

5.Houston Texans(11-5, 2nd AFC South): Houston's sensational defense has fired the franchise into the postseason for a third straight year. The team confirmed its place in the playoffs with a 20-16 win against the Los Angeles Chargers on Saturday.

6.Los Angeles Chargers(11-5, 2nd AFC West): TheChargerswill be happy to have already locked up a postseason spot as they face a motivated Denver squad in the final week of the regular season.

7.Buffalo Bills(11-5, 2nd AFC East): After losing in dramatic circumstances against the Philadelphia Eagles, the Bills close out the year with a home game against the Jets having already secured their berth in the playoffs.

1.Seattle Seahawks(13-3, 1st NFC West): After missing the playoffs in the last two campaigns, theSeahawksare back in the postseason and tightened their grip on the No. 1 seed after beating the Carolina Panthers 27-10 in Week 17. Seattle now faces theSan Francisco 49ersin its last regular season game.

2.Chicago Bears(11-5, 1st NFC North):Da Bearshaven't made the postseason since 2020, so some celebration in the Windy City is merited, but Chicago has only made the playoffs twice since 2010 – and lost in the wild card round both times. After spending so many years in the proverbial wilderness, the team won't be content with just making it. The Bears take on the Detroit Lions in Week 18.

3.Philadelphia Eagles(11-5, 1st NFC East): The defending Super Bowl champions are back in the postseason to defend their title, but with hopes of a first-round bye now over, Philly may look to rest players ahead of a game against the Washington Commanders in Week 18.

5.San Francisco 49ers(12-4, 2nd NFC West): After missing the postseason last year, the Niners are back and looking dangerous. Starting QB Brock Purdy is back and playing incredibly as they host the Seahawks in Week 18 with the No. 1 seed in the conference at stake.

6.Los Angeles Rams(11-5, 3rd NFC West): The Rams round out an incredible NFC West, which has three teams in the playoffs. Los Angeles, though, suffered a surprise defeat against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 17 and closes out the regular season with a game against the Arizona Cardinals.

7.Green Bay Packers(9-6-1, 2nd NFC North): The Pack lost to Baltimore in Week 17 but still secured the NFC seventh seed heading into the playoffs. Off the back of three straight defeats, Green Bay heads to Minnesota in Week 18 to take on the eliminated Vikings.

Who's still got a chance?

4.Pittsburgh Steelers(9-7, 1st AFC North): The Steelers only had to beat the Cleveland Browns on the road last Sunday to secure their place in the playoffs, but blew the opportunity after losing 13-6. Pittsburgh now faces a winner-takes-all clash against its bitter rival, the Baltimore Ravens, in Week 18. Pittsburgh currently has a40% chanceof making the playoffs, according to the NFL.

9.Baltimore Ravens(8-8, 2nd AFC North): The Ravens had Super Bowl aspirations before the year kicked off with two-time MVP Lamar Jackson and star running back Derrick Henry, but it all seemed to fall apart with Jackson missing significant time due to injury. But results went their way on Week 17 and they beat the Packers 41-24. It all means that the NFL says the Ravens now have a 60% chance of reaching the postseason still.

4.Carolina Panthers(8-8, 1st NFC South): Carolina is still sitting first in its division despite losing to the Seahawks in Week 17. The Panthers still have a chance of reaching the postseason as they face a win-or-go-home game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 18. The NFL says Carolina has a 72% chance of making it to the playoffs.

11.Tampa Bay Buccaneers(7-9, 2nd NFC South): The Bucs lost to the Miami Dolphins in Week 17 and now everything hangs on the final game of the regular season against the Panthers. We'll see what happens but the NFL gives Tampa Bay just a 28% chance of progressing.

Alabama vs Indiana prediction

∎Depends on weather: I will stand, as the kids say, on business. If Thursday isn't played in a downpour, I think Alabama will be comfortable living without a lot of what Indiana takes away defensively, and I think the Crimson Tide found something in Norman in the first-round comeback. Provided decent weather,Alabama 27, Indiana 24. If it is pouring down rain,Indiana 28, Alabama 10, because at that point, the game will be defined by who can run the football, and only one of these teams can. So I'm standing mostly on business.— Zach Osterman, IndyStar

∎Indiana 31, Alabama 17:Alabama has plenty of talent and the comeback win over Oklahoma seemed to give it some momentum, but it has plenty of flaws. The Tide don't have a balanced offense (they have the No. 120-ranked run offense in the FBS), struggle to protect quarterback Ty Simpson at times and don't consistently rush the passer, either.

Those three things are of particular concern in the Rose Bowl when going up against Indiana that can score in a hurry if Fernando Mendoza has time in the pocket and has a defense that's dominated one-dimensional opponents.

Indiana will be coming off a lengthy layoff and the weather is a wild card, but none of that kind of 'clutter' as Curt Cignetti likes to say has tripped them up before. The Hoosiers have beaten better teams (Ohio State) that are just as athletic (Oregon) in much tougher environments. This would have been a more challenging moment for last year's team, but this battle-tested group knows its strengths and will come out on top on New Year's Day.— Michael Niziolek, The Herald-Times

∎Alabama 24, Indiana 21:Indiana is, by far, the best team Alabama has faced all season with a top-five scoring offense and a top-two scoring defense nationally. The Crimson Tide's defense has lived up to expectation against top offenses, shutting down Tennessee and Vanderbilt in the regular season, both of which are top-10 scoring offenses nationally. Paired with a surging offense, one that was methodical and consistent against an Oklahoma defense that is one of the best in college football, Alabama could be peaking at the right time, something that could mark trouble for the Hoosiers.— Colin Gay, Tuscaloosa News

∎Alabama 20, Indiana 17:A low-scoring affair. Both defenses are legit, and neither offense is dangerous enough to take the score into the 30s. Field position will play an important role.— Chase Goodbread, Tuscaloosa News

Emergency services declared the incident a 'major catastrophe'

At least 10 people have been killed with dozens more feared dead after an explosion at a bar in a Swiss sky resort town on New Year's Day.

More than 100 people were inside the Le Constellation bar in Crans-Montana, which is popular with British tourists, when a blast caused a fire at around 1.30am on Thursday.

Swiss police told Sky News that at least 10 people were dead and another 10 were injured. The incident is not being treated as terror-related.

Local media outlets Rhône FM and Blick have reported that the death toll could be as high as 40.

A doctor in the Swiss air ambulance and rescue service told the national broadcaster RTS that hospitals were "overwhelmed" with burn victims.

A no-fly zone has been imposed over the town and the area has been completely closed off as helicopters and air ambulances rescue victims.

A source in the emergency services described the incident as a "major catastrophe", with Blick claiming that pyrotechnics could have been involved, citing "unconfirmed reports".

Crans-Montana is a fashionable ski resort in the Valais region ofSwitzerland. It is set to host the FIS World Cup for skiing at the end of January.

Gaetan Lathion, a police spokesman, said: "The fire started around 1.30am this morning in a bar called Le Constellation.

"More than a hundred people were in the building, and we are seeing many injured and many dead."

Le Constellation is in Crans-Montana, which is popular with British tourists

A reception centre and helpline have been setup for impacted families, the spokesman added.

"We're just at the beginning of our investigation, but this is a internationally renowned ski resort with lots of tourists," Mr Lathion said.

The Foreign Office has been contacted for comment.

Several people have been killed and others injured in a fire at a new year's party at an Alpine ski resort in southern Switzerland, a police spokesperson said Thursday.

Gaetan Lathion, spokesperson for police in the canton of Valais, said the "fire broke out around 1:30 a.m. at Le Constellation lounge bar in Crans-Montana." He said about 100 people were inside the venue at the time.

"There are several injuries and several fatalities."

Large crews from the emergency services immediately responded and rushed to the scene. Rescue efforts are still ongoing and the area has been closed off with a no-fly zone in place over Crans-Montana, police said.

Officers confirmed the fire started inside the lounge bar but said the cause remains unknown. They did not give an exact figure for those killed and injured in the fire, which struck in an area known for high-end holiday resorts.

A press conference will be held with police and the regional public prosecutor at around 10 a.m. (4 a.m. ET).

One of Switzerland's most exclusive locales, Crans-Montana is famed for its year-round sunshine, which it owes to its position on a south-facing plateau in the Rhone Valley.

The area – 1,500 meters above sea level – offers sweeping Alpine vistas stretching from the Matterhorn to Mont Blanc, one of Europe's highest peaks.

Tourists are drawn by its understated glamor, with high-end shopping and fine dining as well as extensive ski slopes and a lively apres-ski scene.

With a small population of around 15,000, the area is said to have a close-knit community as well as being a low-key place for celebrities to go skiing, golfing and dining.

This is a developing story and will be updated.

No. 6 Duke rallies past Georgia Tech to win ACC opener

Freshman phenom Cameron Boozer totaled a game-high 26 points and 12 rebounds for No. 6 Duke, which fought off Georgia Tech for an 85-79 victory in both teams' Atlantic Coast Conference opener on Wednesday in Durham, N.C.

Isaiah Evans added 17 points, while Cayden Boozer scored 13 for Duke (12-1, 1-0 ACC), which rebounded from its first loss of the season - an 82-81 loss to then-No. 19 Texas Tech on Dec. 20. Caleb Foster had 12 points and Patrick Ngongba II tallied 11 points and nine boards for the Blue Devils, who trailed by four at halftime.

Kowacie Reeves Jr. tied his career high with 23 points to lead Georgia Tech (9-5, 0-1), which fell to 0-4 against major-conference opponents. Jaeden Mustaf scored 11, while Lamar Washington and Chas Kelley III had 10 points apiece for the Yellow Jackets, who were outrebounded 42-28.

Duke trailed by seven with 18:38 left after Reeves' 3-pointer gave Georgia Tech a 50-43 lead. Evans and Cayden Boozer's baskets then began the Blue Devils' 9-2 run, pulling even at 52 with 16:24 remaining.

Duke held the Yellow Jackets without a field goal for nearly seven minutes, before Kelley's triple trimmed the deficit to two at the 10:44 mark.

The Blue Devils' lead grew to seven on Foster's 3-pointer with 8:14 left. Nearly four minutes later, Mustaf's trey pulled Georgia Tech within two.

Akai Fleming and Ngongba traded a pair of free throws, as Duke grabbed a 78-75 lead with 3:04 remaining. Cayden Boozer's mid-range jumper with 1:28 left gave the Blue Devils a five-point cushion.

Behind by six, Georgia Tech sliced its deficit in half on Reeves' 3-pointer with 39 seconds remaining.

Cameron Boozer made two foul shots, before Washington split a pair for Georgia Tech. Evans then calmly drilled his two free throws to seal the win.

After Fleming and Washington's back-to-back 3-pointers gave Georgia Tech a 9-3 lead, Evans' trey began a 7-0 Duke run.

Leading by a point, Georgia Tech pushed its advantage to five after Mouhamed Sylla's consecutive baskets put the visitors ahead 29-24 with 8:10 left in the first half.

Foster's second 3-pointer of the opening half gave Duke a 37-35 edge, but Mustaf's jumper and Kelley's personal 4-0 run returned the lead to the Yellow Jackets with 47 seconds remaining.

From there, Cameron Boozer's layup was answered by Reeves' mid-range jumper to close out the first half with Georgia Tech ahead 43-39.

Alex Karaban helps No. 4 UConn rout Xavier

Alex Karaban scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead No. 4 UConn to a 90-67 Big East win over Xavier on Wednesday in Cincinnati.

Braylon Mullins amassed 17 points, six rebounds and four assists for the Huskies (13-1, 3-0 Big East).

Malik Messina-Moore led the Musketeers (9-5, 1-2) with 16 points.

Solo Ball came back after missing one game with a wrist injury to score 17 points for the Huskies, who outshot the Musketeers 53.2% (33-of-62) to 42.9% (24-of-56).

The Huskies dominated from the 3-point arc, hitting 13 of 28 (46.4%). The Musketeers struggled from long distance all night and were just 4 of 18 (22.2%) on 3-point attempts.

Xavier was able to get within 13 early in the second half when Roddie Anderson III laid in two of his 15 points to make it 53-40.

UConn answered with a 13-2 run with Ball hitting a 3-pointer to start the run and finishing it with a three-point play off a layup for a 66-42 UConn lead with 12:21 left.

The Huskies used a 17-2 run midway through the first half to build a 43-28 lead at the break.

UConn led 16-6 when Mullins hit a 3-pointer and Karaban scored five straight points with a layup and then a three-point play off a layup for a 24-6 lead with 12:39 left.

Tarris Reed Jr. went on an eight-point run of his own two minutes later with a three-point play off a dunk and a layup on the next possession to make it 30-6.

After Pape N'Diaye scored on a layup to stop the scoreless drought, Reed collected a second three-point play off a dunk for a 33-8 UConn lead.

Xavier had five of seven first-half turnovers during the run.

The Musketeers were able to outscore the Huskies 14-10 the rest of the way with Anderson scoring nine of points.

UConn was in command at that point, however, hitting 48.4% of its first-half shots (15-of-31), including 6-of-16 from the 3-point line.

The Musketeers only shot 37.5% from the floor (12-of-32) and missed all 10 of the 3-point shots they took.

UConn outrebounded Xavier 24-15 in the first half.

The Huskies jumped in front right away, hitting 6 of 12 shots to start the game. An early 7-0 run gave the Huskies a quick 12-point lead.

Spurs' Victor Wembanyama downplays knee injury

San Antonio star center Victor Wembanyama hyperextended his left knee in the Spurs' home victory over the New York Knicks on Wednesday, but he doesn't expect to miss any additional time.

Wembanyama came down awkwardly with 10:32 to play in the game as he attempted to secure an offensive rebound. He stayed down until teammate Stephon Castle helped him up, then hobbled straight to the locker room while giving fans reassurance and saying, "I'm fine. I'm fine."

He later came back to the bench but didn't return to action.

After the Spurs rallied for a 134-132 win, Wembanyama said he would have tests done on Thursday, but, "I expect to be back the next game."

He added, according to ESPN, "I was confident. I was this close to coming back in the game. (They) had to hold me back. It was just a hyperextension, so it should be minimal. We've got to do everything tomorrow still to check that everything's OK."

San Antonio coach Mitch Johnson said following the game, "I have no idea what to say, but it was good to see him walk back out and be able to finish the game on the bench with his teammates."

Wembanyama amassed 31 points and 13 rebounds in 24 minutes before leaving the game with the Spurs down 102-96.

In 21 games this season, Wembanyama is averaging 24.3 points, 11.7 rebounds and 3.4 assists. He was sidelined for 12 games from Nov. 16-Dec. 10 due to a left calf strain. Upon his return, he spent six games coming off the bench on a minutes restriction before rejoining the starting lineup last weekend.
