Reports: Rashan Gary agreed to pay cut in trade to Cowboys

Rashan Gary took less money to be traded to the Dallas Cowboys rather than being released by the Packers earlier this month, according to multiple reports.

Field Level Media

Gary will be paid $16 million for the 2026 and 2027 season and he receives a signing bonus of $13.2 million, NFL Network reported.

Acquired from the Packers for a 2027 fourth-round pick, Gary's contract in Green Bay called for salaries of $19.5 million in 2026 and $22.5 million in 2027.

The 28-year-old was expected to be released before Dallas made a deal to pair the edge rusher with former Packers teammate Kenny Clark. Clark was acquired from Green Bay as part of the trade involving Micah Parsons last August.

Gary has 46.5 career sacks and adds to the ongoing overhaul of the front seven in Dallas. In 2025, Gary started in 15 games and generated 7.5 sacks, 20 QB hits, seven tackles for loss, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery for the Packers.

March Madness 2026: Cinderella teams to consider when filling out your bracket for the tournament

It's time to fill out your bracket, and what's March without a little madness in the form of some Cinderella teams to root for along the way? Yahoo Sports' Scott Pianowski reveals four teams with a solid case to outkick expectations in the first week of the men'sNCAA tournament.

Yahoo Sports

Note: All team stats courtesy of the indispensable KenPom.com.

I know the thirst for underdogs is strong aswe get ready for the NCAA Tournament, but I'm going to be cautious as I fill out my brackets this week. It's possible the NIL era has turned the tournament into a favorite-friendly event, where the difference between the higher-payroll schools and the lower-payroll schools is significant. Consider that last March, all four No. 1 seeds made the Final Four, and there was only one double-digit team (Arkansas, a 10 seed) that survived the first weekend.

[Yahoo Fantasy Bracket Mayhem: Fill out brackets for your shot at $50K]

One set of results is not definitive proof of anything, of course. And with that in mind, let's get to today's assignment, some Cinderellas (of varying longshot depth) who have a chance to outkick their expectations and last longer than the odds initially suggest.

Light Cinderella: St. John's (No. 5 seed, East)

If you simply picked all the higher seeds to advance in every game, the Sweet 16 wouldn't contain a single team past a No. 4 seed. Thus, if St. John's can get out of the first week, it's already beaten expectations.

It wasn't a great season for the Big East, which is why St. John's merely earned a No. 5 nod despite ending the year on a 19-1 blitz. The Johnnies dominated Connecticut for 40 minutes in the Big East final, but it didn't push them higher on the seeding line.

While St. John's will be challenged by Northern Iowa in Round 1, I expect the Johnnies will survive and likely take on Kansas on the weekend (although rebound-dominant Cal Baptist isn't an easy draw for Kansas in Round 1, either). The Jayhawks have been a Jekyll-Hyde team all year, with star freshman Darryn Peterson battling injuries and inconsistency. Kansas enters the tournament on a 4-5 slump, and has a metrics profile that's less impressive than St. John's. It's plausible St. John's would be favored come the weekend.

There's star power on this St. John's roster, with Big East Player of the Year Zuby Ejiofor and legendary head coach Rick Pitino. The Johnnies aren't a great shooting team, but they're relentless on the offensive boards. St. John's has a dangerous defensive profile, protecting the rim and turning its opponents over. I have this club winning at least two games — not a bold prediction but at least a seeding upset — and then giving Duke a 40-minute problem in the Round of 16.

Medium Cinderella: UCLA (No. 7 seed, East)

It's been a yo-yo season for the Bruins, who were ranked 12th in the country when the season started but were out of the rankings before Christmas. When Michigan and Michigan State both trounced UCLA in mid-February, it was fair to wonder if the Bruins would even make the tournament.

Head coach Mick Cronin has found answers since, starting with a shocking comeback win over Illinois in overtime back on Feb. 21. That sparked a 6-1 run to tidy up the season, before falling to Purdue in the Big 10 semifinals. That seven-point defeat was respectable, considering that forward Tyler Bilodeau (knee) didn't play and guard Donovan Dent (calf) was limited to 10 minutes. Bilodeau and Dent are clearly UCLA's two best players.

The Bruins have a profile of a dangerous March team — experience (14th in the country), a low turnover rate (12th), a good shooting team (16th in 3-point percentage, 41st in free throw percentage). Early health reports suggest Bilodeau and Dent will be good to go this week — I suspect Cronin fairly reasoned that while it would be nice to win the Purdue game last Saturday, it wasn't worth risking the NCAA Tournament over.

I'll definitely pick the Bruins to handle UCF in Round 1 — as they're favored to do — and I don't think they'd be heavy underdogs against presumably UConn (an overseeded No. 2 team) in the second round. UCLA versus Michigan State could be a fun rematch in the third round — the same MSU team that UCLA got revenge on last week in the Big 10 Tournament.

Deeper Cinderella: VCU (No. 11 seed, South)

Virginia Commonwealth is no stranger to the NCAA tournament, making its 15th trip since 2024. They've scored some upsets along the way, surprising Duke back in 2007 and making a dream run in 2011, moving from theFirst Four to the Final Fourin two glorious weeks. This year's team enters the dance on a 16-1 roll, including an easy stroll through the Atlantic 10 Tournament.

A win for the Rams over North Carolina in Round 1 would only be a minor upset. The Tar Heels are merely 2.5-point favorites, and of course, they're without star forward Caleb Wilson. UNC was routed at Duke without Wilson, then lost to Clemson in the ACC Tournament. The Tar Heels have struggled with perimeter defense all season, and that's a big problem against a Rams team that makes 36.7% of its 3-point attempts.

I'll slot VCU to win at least one game even in tournament contests that don't reward upsets, and although I wouldn't expect VCU to beat Illinois in Week 2, it at least would have a puncher's chance in that draw.

Dreaming Cinderella: Hofstra (No. 13 seed, Midwest)

When you're trying to imagine a hockey upset, you gravitate toward the hot goalie (looking at you,Connor Hellebuyck). That's the quickest way for a lesser-talented team to take down a deeper roster.

Basketball's version of the hot goalie is the 3-point shot. Think of what St. Peter's dialed up in 2022, or Oakland University two years back — those schools took down favored opponents largely by shooting the lights out behind the arc.Doug EdertandJack Gohlkewill live in our memories forever.

Hofstra shoots 36.8% from outside the arc, and has three outstanding marksmen (Cruz Davis, Preston Edmead, German Plotnikov) in the starting rotation. Its opponent, Alabama, was not an elite team with perimeter defense this year. Don't sleep on the upset potential here, despite Hofstra being a double-digit underdog.

To be fair, Alabama's outside shooting metrics are almost as good as Hofstra's, and obviously, Alabama played a much more difficult schedule. But I'm willing to be open-minded with the Pride potentially taking down the Tide, and maybe chaos will reign in this area of the Midwest bracket. The sidecar game to Hofstra/Alabama is also interesting -- No. 12 Akron could be a live dog against a No. 5 Texas Tech team that's now vulnerable with star forward J.T. Toppin lost for the season.

Slay, 35, spent his first seven years with the Detroit Lions after being drafted in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft out of Mississippi State. Slay's breakout year came in 2017, where he finished with 60 tackles, a career-high 8 interceptions, 1 sack and 1 forced fumble. Slay was named first-team All-Pro.

The Lions traded Slay to the Eagles in 2020 for a third- and fifth-round pick after tension between him and former Lions head coach Matt Patricia.

In Philadelphia, Slay played for the Eagles for five seasons, including one season under Patricia after the two were able to come to an understanding. Slay won a Super Bowl in 2025.

Slay finished his career with the Steelers having played 13 games for Pittsburgh and posting a 58.6 PFF coverage grade, which was his worst since 2019. He was waived by the Steelers in early December before being claimed by the Buffalo Bills. Slay did not report to the Bills and announced that he was contemplating retirement but he did not officially retire at that time.

Slay earned the nickname "Big Play Slay" at Mississippi State for forcing turnovers in crucial moments of games. He finished his NFL career as a six-time Pro Bowler and with 28 career interceptions.

University of Florida moves to deactivate College Republicans after report of antisemitic behavior

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — The University of Florida says it's deactivating the campus College Republicans as a registered student group after being notified that some members engaged in antisemitism.

Associated Press

The deactivation effort at the University of Florida campus marks the second time this month that a public university in Florida has taken action against a Republican group accused of being involved in racist or antisemitic behavior.

Earlier this month, Florida International University in Miami launched an investigation into a group chat started by an official with the Miami-Dade chapter of the Republican Party that included violently racist slurs, antisemitic comments and misogynistic language. The chat involved students and several top conservative leaders at Florida International University.

Officials at the University of Florida said over the weekend that they had been informed by the Florida Federation of College Republicans that the federation had disbanded the Gainesville campus' chapter after determining that some members had "engaged in a pattern of conduct that violated its rules and values, including a recent antisemitic gesture."

When the Florida Federation of College Republicans is ready, the university will assist with reactivating the campus chapter under new student leadership, UF officials said in a statement.

Last fall,New York's Republican State Committee suspended aYoung Republicanorganization following the release of a group chat that included jokes about rape and flippant commentary on gas chambers.

  • The TikTok star told Entertainment Tonight that she needed a knife to address the loose beads on her dress

  • Earle, styled by Mimi Cuttrell, wore a 2001 Bob Mackie gown and Kendra Scott jewelry

Alix Earleneeded some serious intervention to avoid a wardrobe malfunction in front of Hollywood's biggest names.

The TikToker andDancing with the Starsalum, 25, attendedVanity Fair's Oscars afterparty on March 15. She was a lady in red in a wine-colored Bob Mackie halter gown from the designer's Fall/Winter 2001, perTab Vintage, which is where her stylist Mimi Cuttrell sourced it from.

But at some point, the sample dress was sort of hanging by a thread, and she toldEntertainment Tonightthat she had to ask someone for a knife "because one of the beading things started coming undone" right before her photo op. When she pulled at it, all the beads started falling off. "We just sliced it a little."

The rest of her look stayed intact, and that included her jewelry, which was designed by Kendra Scott. Her collection of bling included the lab-grown Elisa Drop Earrings and custom Elisa rings stacked with three Marilyn bands.

With the blunder resolved, Earle said she had plans to maybe get "someone's number" into her phone during the night. "I could meet someone," she joked.

Her comments come one month after she waslinked to Tom Bradyfollowing hersplit from Braxton Berrios, whom she dated for over two years, in late 2025.

A source told PEOPLE in February that Earle and Brady, who was previously married to Gisele Bündchen, were "hooking up." However, Earle also opened up about seeing Berrios, a wide receiver for the Houston Texans, for thefirst time after their breakup.

"It's weird when you go from someone being like your best friend to being a stranger in the corner of the room," she said, likely referring to the Palm Tree Pre-Party they both attended in February. "So that was tough. And by tough, I mean terrible."

However, Earle has been thriving and channeling her single girl era through her fashion. She divided the internet with a recent outfit of hers that featured a$48,000 shearling numberbyGucci. She's also full steam ahead on anew reality show with her family, which she announced in January.

"From your FYP to your TV: Alix Earle, her family, and friends will star in an unscripted series dropping later this year on Netflix," the caption of the Jan. 21Instagrampost read.

France Libya Sarkozy

Sarkozy, 71, is challenging a September ruling by a Paris court that found him guilty of "criminal conspiracy." He was sentenced to five years in prison for his alleged part in a scheme to obtain funds from the government of late Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi in exchange for political and diplomatic favors.

The verdict marked the first time that a former president of modern France had been sentenced to actual prison time. Sarkozy — who led France from 2007 to 2012 — began serving his sentence before a Paris appeals courtordered his releaseunder judicial supervision pending the new trial.

The appeal hearing, which is scheduled to last until June 3, will reexamine all of the evidence and testimony related to Sarkozy and nine co-defendants — including three former ministers.

In September, the judges found that Sarkozy and his associates had formed a criminal association between 2005 and 2007 to secure money from Libya to support his successful presidential bid.

Sarkozy has denied wrongdoing and suggested the accusations were politically motivated.

He has faced multiple legal cases since leaving office but remains an influential figure in conservative politics.

In November, the Court of Cassation — France's top court —upheld his convictionfor illegal campaign financing of his 2012 reelection bid, requiring him to spend six months under house arrest wearing an electronic ankle tag, a sentence that has yet to be implemented.

Aaron Judge hails World Baseball Classic crowds as 'bigger and better than the World Series'

MIAMI (AP) — On a night when All-Stars and future Hall of Famers thrilled fans and each other until the final out, Aaron Judge proclaimed the World Baseball Classic had grown into the sport's biggest event.

WBC USA Dominican Republic Baseball

"The World Series I was in, the crowd here, the crowd we had when we played against Mexico, it's bigger and better than the World Series," the U.S. captain said after a2-1 semifinal win over the Dominican Republicthat came down to Sunday night'sfinal pitch. "The passion that these fans have, representing their country, representing some of their favorite players, there's nothing like it."

American tradition emphasizing understatement on a team led by Judge and Bryce Harper was showcased against Latin flair on a side featuring Juan Soto and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. When Junior Caminero homered against Paul Skenes to put the Dominicans ahead in the second inning, he celebrated with an overhand bat flip.

In the sixth tournament of an event that started in 2006, the game featured starting lineups featuring 17 All-Stars totaling 56 selections among the 20 starters. They had won five MVP awards, one Cy Young, five Rookies of the Year and three batting titles.

Before a crowd of 36,337 at IoanDepot park, the U.S. overcame the deficit on fourth-inning home runs by Gunnar Henderson off Luis Severino and Roman Anthony against Gregory Soto.

Anthony, at 21 the youngest American player, had bought a ticket for the 2023 WBC final in Miami and watched from the seats asJapan beat the U.S. 3-2.

"Coming to the WBC here, you dream of representing this country and being here the next time around," Anthony said.

American relievers allowed two hits over 4 2/3 scoreless innings, capped by Mason Miller topping 100 mph with 13 of 22 pitches. Miller's last appeared to be low for ball four to Geraldo Perdomo but plate umpire Cory Blaser emphatically signaled strike three.

"Just a game we'll remember forever, right?" U.S. manager Mark DeRosa said. "We understood this was going to be a talked-about game, probably one of the most watched games of all time."

Dynamic defense was commonplace.

With the U.S. trailing by a run in the third, Judge threw a 95.7 mph strike from right field to third base to cut down Fernando Tatis Jr. for the inning's final out. Judge then made a diving backland catch to rob Soto, his former New York Yankees teammate, in the fourth.

Julio Rodríguez denied Judge a home run with a leaping catch at the center-field wall in the fifth, 407 feet from the plate.

"I was like, OK, maybe we got a shot here," Judge recalled. "But hit it to a guy like J-Rod, who's one of the best if not the best center fielder in the game, he's going make exciting plays like that in big moments."

Shortstop Bobby Witt ranged to the right field side of the infield to snag Soto's slow bouncer in the fifth, scrambled to back to touch second base and made an off-balance throw to first for an inning-ending double play. One inning later, Witt threw out Manny Machado at first from the outfield grass.

Pitching moments were memorable, too.

Dominican starter Luis Severino stranded runners at second and third in the third inning when he struck out Judge and Kyle Schwarber, and Skenes escaped a bases-loaded jam in the fourth when Austin Wells flied out.

Wells doubled with one out in the seventh and the relatively slow-footed catcher was held at third on Perdomo's single to Crow-Armstrong in center. David Bednar then struck out Tatis Jr. and Ketel Marte on breaking balls below the strike zone.

Before Miller got the strike three call in the ninth, Perdomo had fouled off a pair of full-count pitches.

"The whole world saw in two teams some of the best players in the game," said Dominican manager Albert Pujols, a likely future Hall of Famer.

Rosters included 18 of the 41 players who received MVP votes last year.

Judge gave a postgame speech to teammates, looking ahead to Tuesday's championship against Venezuela or Italy. He had perceived a special night Sunday from the start.

"You get chills standing there on the line, hearing them announce all the names," he said. "It was like an All-Star team they got over there."
