  • She wore a custom lace wedding dress by British designer Giles Deacon

  • Pippa's wedding look had a few similarities to her older sister Kate's Sarah Burton bridal gown

Pippa Middletonbecame theworld’s most famous bridesmaidafter her sisterKate Middleton’s 2011 nuptials, but it was her ownwedding dressin which she truly shone.

On May 20, 2017, Pippa walked down the aisle tomarryhusband James Matthewsin a bespoke silk cotton lace gown with a corseted bodice, cap sleeves, a high neckline and a heart-shaped keyhole back designed by Giles Deacon.

Pippa topped the look off with a Stephen Jones veil and a pair of ivory-and-pearl Manolo Blahnik pumps.

Ahead, everything to know about Pippa Middleton's wedding dress, including the unexpected accessory she recycled from her sister's royal wedding.

Pippa paid homage to her British roots by walking down the aisle in a stunning creation byBritish designer Giles Deacon. He launched his own label, GILES, in 2003 and earned a British Fashion Designer of the Year award in 2006.

Prior to designing Pippa’s 2017 gown, Deacon’s made his sartorial mark at the 2012 London Olympics, whenVictoria Beckhamperformed with the Spice Girls in his custom minidress with a dramatic train, and at the 2013 Met Gala, for whichSarah Jessica Parkersported one of his floral garments for the evening’s"PUNK: Chaos to Couture” theme.

Deacon expressed his delight at working on his most famous commission, sayingin a statement, "I was thrilled to work with Pippa on her dress.”

“She has a great eye,” he later toldBusiness of Fashionof Pippa, adding, “She knew whatshewanted.”

Pippa's dress featured hand-embroidered pearls and hidden seams

While Pippa’s gown appeared to have completely seamless stitching, Deacon toldBusiness of Fashionthere was actually a lot of behind-the-scenes work that went into hiding them — which is exactly what he was going for.

“I wanted that ‘’How-was-that-done?’ factor,” he told the publication.

As for how he accomplished the effect, Deacon revealed that Pippa’s silk cotton lace was “all hand-pieced.” Said Deacon: “[That’s] why you don’t actually see a seam.”

The designer’s team also hand-embroidered pearls along the neck, bodice and corset to emphasize its smooth lines.

Her dress was inspired in part by a 1960s movie

Deacon cited a scene in a 1963 Luchino Visconti film calledThe Leopardas inspiration for Pippa’s gown in a May 2017 interview withBusiness of Fashion.

“I always loved the dancing scenes inThe Leopard,” he said. “I know they were all hoop crinolines in the film, but there’s something gorgeous about having that great movement, with the skirt spinning round, keeping its shape.”

Pippa’s dress followed suit, with a tulle train at the back of the skirt that the designer said enabled it to float and pleats at the front that allowed it to move more freely. “There’s incredible movement,” Deacon explained to the publication.

The gown had similar elements to Kate’s

Pippa’s ivory wedding gown featured several elements that were similar to the ivorySarah Burton-designed dress Kate wore on her big day.

Both sisters chose a corseted bodice with a lace overlay, though their necklines differed quite a bit: Kate’s featured a deep, plunging V, while Pippa’s more modest mockneck was reminiscent ofGrace Kelly’s bridal look

The shape of their skirts was also nearly identical, with both Kate and Pippa opting for pleated A-line silhouettes.

Last but not least, both women covered their hair with long, intricate veils, though Kate’s was much longer than her younger sister’s, as was her gown, which featured a sprawling9-foot train.

Pippa previously wore her “something old” at Kate's royal wedding

If Pippa’s wedding earrings looked familiar, it’s because the British socialite wore them six years prior for theroyal wedding, effectively serving as her “something old.”

Commissioned from British jeweler Robinson Pelham by her mother and father for Kate’s nuptials, they featured a pear-cut diamond drop and a floral motif.

She wore a bespoke diamond headpiece

Robinson Pelham was also responsible for the understated tiara the bride wore atop her head.

Dubbed the Maidenhair Fern tiara, it was crafted with 18-karat white gold and diamonds, per company cofounder Zoe Benyon, who spoke toVogueabout the headpiece.

“It’s all about balance,” Benyon told the outlet in 2017. “You do not want the dress and tiara to fight, so one has to take a back seat.

Benyon also revealed that the tiara was tailored to Pippa’s face shape. As she explained: “Tiaras are like sunglasses; not every one suits every shape of face.”

In a new interview withIndieWire, Teller, 39, addressed an oldEsquireprofileabout the then-rising star, which concluded he was "kind of a dick.” Asked about having "to counteract some bad press" throughout his career, theMichaelstar brought up the old profile.

“That was so mishandled. The reason why I have not done profiles is because I said, ‘Wow, if I'm not doing this interview on camera, this person can misquote things or put things out of order or say things that didn't happen,' ” the actor said.

TheEsquirepiece “felt like such a violation of what actually transpired,” added Teller. “I told my team, ‘Guys, I don't think I'm doing this again, because I'm reading this and this doesn't sound like me to me.' ”

UK finance ministry presses supermarkets to cap food prices, sources say

(Corrects reference to finance ministry from foreign ministry in paragraph 6)

Reuters

LONDON, May 19 (Reuters) - Britain's finance ministry is pressuring major supermarket groups to introduce voluntary ‌price caps on key products, such as eggs, bread and milk, in ‌return for easing some regulations, according to two people with knowledge of the situation.

Confirming a Financial Times report that the ministry had proposed relaxing some new packaging rules and possibly delaying changes to rules around healthy food in exchange for price caps, the people said the grocers had reacted with anger and were pushing back.

The proposals come as Prime Minister Keir Starmer's government seeks ‌to address an ongoing cost of living crisis and follow a similar move by the Scottish National Party, which holds power in Scotland's devolved parliament.

"If this happened, nobody would invest in the UK," one of the people said.

"If you want food price inflation to decline, you need to start looking at the cost of regulation on business," they said, highlighting the government's moves to raise employer taxes, the national minimum wage, introduce new packaging ‌levies and propose the reformulation of thousands of food lines.

A spokesperson for the British finance ministry said: "The chancellor (Rachel Reeves) has been clear we want to do more to help keep costs down for families, and will set out more detail in due course."

British grocery inflation was 3.8% in the four weeks to April 19, according to researcher Worldpanel by ‌Numerator.

The Bank of England said that businesses it had spoken to last month expected food price inflation to reach 6% to 7% later this year, reflecting the economic fallout from the Iran war.

The British ‌Retail Consortium, which represents Britain's major supermarket groups, including market leader Tesco and Sainsbury's, said it opposed price caps.

"Rather than introduce 1970s-style price controls and trying to force retailers to sell goods at a loss, the Government must focus on how it ‌will reduce the public policy costs which are pushing up food prices in the first place," BRC CEO Helen Dickinson said.

Ebola death toll in Congo rises to 131 as concern mounts

Latest on American who contracted Ebola as outbreak continues in Congo, Uganda 02:08

CBS News

The death toll from theEbola outbreakin the Democratic Republic of the Congo has risen to 131 from 513 suspected cases, health minister Samuel Roger Kamba said Tuesday. There has also been one death in neighboring Uganda, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported.

The head of the World Health Organization said he was "deeply concerned" about the outbreak.

"Early on Sunday, I declared a public health emergency of international concern," Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told the World Health Assembly in Geneva. "I did not do this lightly. ... I'm deeply concerned about the scale and speed of the epidemic."

One American doctor working with an aid group in Congohas tested positive, and several other Americans are believed to havebeen exposed.

Six tons of supplies to fight Ebola were to arrive in the Congo on Tuesday, said Anne Ancia, WHO's representative in the Congo's Ituri province. "These include personal protective equipment for frontline health workers (and) samples," she said, according to the Reuters news agency.

The outbreak is of particular concern to global health officials in part because the virus detected is a less common strain.

The virus behind this outbreak is the Bundibugyo virus, health officials have confirmed. This is only the third known outbreak of this virus, and there are no vaccines or treatments.

Ebola vaccine targets Zaire strain

Ebola disease is caused by orthoebolaviruses, of which there are multiple species.

Three of the viruses have been known to cause large Ebola disease outbreaks, according tothe WHO. They are Ebola (or Zaire) virus, which has been the most common; Sudan virus; and Bundibugyo virus, the one identified in this outbreak.

The only approved vaccine and treatments are for the Zaire strain. Because each virus species has different genetic material, they need different vaccines.

There are some other vaccines in development, but nothing that targets Bundibugyo virus is close to being ready for use, saidDr. Céline Gounder, a CBS News medical correspondent and infectious diseases specialist who deployed in the response to a past Ebola outbreak.

2 previous Bundibugyo outbreaks

Before this outbreak, there were two known outbreaks caused by the Bundibugyo virus, and both were smaller than the current one.

The first discovery of the Bundibugyo strain occurred in the Bundibugyo District in Uganda in 2007. There were 149 cases and 37 deaths in that outbreak, The Associated Press reported.

The second known outbreak was in Congo in 2012, with 57 cases and 29 deaths reported, according to the AP.

Because there have been fewer outbreaks of this virus, there is far less data about how it behaves than for the Zaire virus, which has been around since 1976 and caused dozens of outbreaks, Gounder said.

Symptoms of Ebola disease

Bundibugyo virus disease, the type of Ebola disease caused by the Bundibugyo virus, is severe and often fatal. The virus spreads from person to person through direct contact with bodily fluids of someone who is sick or has died from the disease.

The early symptoms can often be mistaken for other illnesses, the WHO says. They include:

feverfatiguemuscle painheadachesore throat

Those can progress to other symptoms, including:

vomitingdiarrheaabdominal painrashorgan dysfunctioninternal or external bleeding (less frequent)

The fatality rate of Bundibugyo virus disease, based on the past two outbreaks, is about 30 to 50%,the WHO says. While still highly deadly, this is lower than the fatality rate of the Zaire strain, which can be up to 90%.

"Early intensive supportive care including rehydration and treatment of specific symptoms, can improve survival,"the WHO says. "Seeking early care can be lifesaving."

Penn State miss out on former O-line commit

While theNittany LionslostLayton Von Brandtearlier in the recruiting cycle and were not the favorites to land him again, many expected him to sign with theNotre Dame Fighting Irish. However, after moving up his commitment date to today, he went a highly unexpected route. Instead of following several other four star O-linemen to South Bend, Von Brandt committed to theAuburn Tigers. While Penn State will be disappointed that he did not stick with his early intentions, it somewhat feels like a win after Penn State lost out on many players to theFighting Irishon the recruiting trail.

USA TODAY

For now, this leaves theNittany Lionswithout a four star lineman amongst their class, but still enough talent at the position to get by. With local recruits in David Tarawallie and Ryan Robbins, Campbell could have two bookend tackles of the future. They also have some interior talent with Jon Sassic and Owen Reilly. However, Notre Dame being spurned is the bigger takeaway as they looked to continue to stockpile at the position. Auburn's win is perhaps a testament to their persistence in recruiting him and both Penn State and Notre Dame landing other commits at the position, thus losing focus on Von Brandt.

Now all eyes will be on another prospect, this time three star Lucas Rhoa, who locked down an official visit. For now, the sting of losing Von Brandt hurts just a little less than potentially expected.

Where Is Dominic Russo’s Family Now? Inside Their Lives After He Was Killed in the Mackenzie Shirilla Crash

Dominic Russo was killed when his girlfriend, Mackenzie Shirilla, crashed her car into a brick wall in July 2022

NEED TO KNOW

  • The 20-year-old's family members initially stood by Mackenzie before realizing the crash may have been intentional

  • Dominic's dad, Frank Russo, and older sister, Christine Russo, were both interviewed for the Netflix documentary The Crash

Dominic Russowas just 20 years old when he waskilled in a high-speed car crash.

Dominic began datingMackenzie Shirillawhen she was a freshman in high school, and they started living together after she graduated high school. Although the two were called inseparable, they also struggled with challenges in their relationship — including trust issues and volatile behavior.

On July 31, 2022, Mackenzie, who was 17 at the time, was driving Dominic and their friend, 19-year-oldDavion Flanagan, home from a party in the early morning hours. Within a few moments, Mackenzie suddenly accelerated her car to 100 mph and crashed it into a brick building in Strongsville, Ohio.

Both Dominic and Davion were killed in the crash, while Mackenzie was hospitalized for her injuries and survived. Mackenzie vehemently maintained that the crash was an accident and that she didn't remember the moments leading up to it. However, she was arrested in November 2022 and wasconvicted of Dominic and Davion's murdersthe following March.

While Dominic's parents and family members initially stood by Mackenzie and believed her story, they have since changed their minds and have expressed mixed opinions after seeingvideo footage of Mackenzie's pre-crash behavior.

Both Dominic's dad Frank and sister Christine, opened up about their love for their son and his tragic death in the Netflix documentary,The Crash, which came to the streamer on May 15.

Here's everything to know about where Dominic Russo's family is now.

Dominic was raised in Strongsville, Ohio, and had a close relationship with his parents, Christine and Frank, and his siblings.

“He literally was just starting his life... and he was just a baby. So he had his whole life ahead of him," his sister Christine told PEOPLE in 2023.

Christine described her younger brother as kind, funny and caring.

"He was the most doting and proud uncle to our children," she said. "He was so loved, and he is so indescribably missed. I'm so proud to call him my brother.”

The older sister also participated in the Netflix documentary with some of her other family members and later toldNBC Newsthat the grief has "gotten worse."

"As time goes, we're missing him more as different stages of grief are hitting,” she explained. “Since the sentencing, it's appeal after appeal after appeal. There's no resting; there's no finding peace. It's just constant, like them slapping it again in our face every six months.”

Meanwhile, Dominic's father, Frank, said that his son was a "go-getter" who loved music and basketball.

“He was opening up his own clothing line, he was not average kid, I'll tell you that,” Frank toldNBC Newsin 2023.

What happened to Dominic?

Around 5 a.m. on July 31, 2022, Mackenzie started driving Dominic and Davion home from a graduation party. Thirty-six minutes later, she slammed her 2018 Toyota Camry into a brick wall.

Dominic and Davion were pronounced dead at the scene, while Mackenzie was rushed to the hospital and treated for various injuries, including multiple bone fractures.

When investigating the deadly crash, authorities learned that the interior of the car had "exploded" upon impact, Assistant Prosecutor Tim Troup said inThe Crash.Forensic auto investigators subsequently conducted an in-depth investigation that determined Mackenzie had accelerated the car to an estimated 100 mph in the moments before the crash.

The investigation also found that there were no technological malfunctions that caused the car to inexplicably speed up. The Camry's "black box" revealed that the accelerator pedal was pressed 100% down with no indication of braking.

“Three seconds before the impact, there was some steering input: Right movement, left movement and then a hard right movement,” Sergeant Ryan Fox of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said in the doc. “It shifted from drive into neutral, back into drive again.”

Mackenzie's bloodwork tested positive solely for THC and psilocybin mushrooms and marijuana were found in the car. Her attorneys later argued that she could have unconsciously crashed the car as a result of a medical emergency.

After a three-month investigation, Mackenzie was ultimately arrested in connection with Dominic and Davion's deaths. She was charged with four counts of murder, four counts of felonious assault, two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide, one count of drug possession and one count of possessing criminal tools.

“The evidence all comes together to show: This was not an accident,” Troup said in the Netflix doc.

In August 2023, Mackenzie wassentenced to two concurrent terms of 15 years to life in prisonwith credit for time served and a permanent suspension of her driver's license.

What have Dominic's family members said about his death?

Dominic Russo and Christine RussoCredit: Courtesy of Christine Russo

Shortly after losing their beloved family member, Dominic's parents initially supported Mackenzie and believed that the crash was an accident.

However, in September 2022, Dominic's brother, Angelo, started speaking with authorities and admitted that his brother and Mackenzie's relationship was far from perfect. Angelo also claimed that Dominic tried breaking up with Mackenzie several times and shared video footage of Mackenzie allegedly trying to break into Dominic's home after he wouldn't let her inside.

“Dom tried to break up with her multiple times,” Angelo told police, per footage shown inThe Crash. “Dom would have to call Kenzie's parents, call her mom and stuff, and say, ‘Hey, you need to get Kenzie out of here. She's refusing to leave my house; she's being crazy.' "

Dominic's sister Christine told police that she knew they were fighting but also thought it was a tragic accident.

"You know, they were kids. Accidents happen all the time like that," Christine said inThe Crash. "You never in a million years think, 'This girl killed your brother.' "

Upon seeing the footage of Mackenzie trying to break into Dominic's house, the Russo family's opinions changed, and many of them believed that Mackenzie had intentionally killed Dominic. Both Dominic's mom and brother Angelo ended up testifying in court about the couple's allegedly volatile relationship.

Even though many of the Russo family members came to the same conclusion about what happened to Dominic, not all of them agreed on Mackenzie's sentencing.

“It's horrible for everybody. Yeah, I lost my son, it's harder on our family, but I don't want the rest of her life ruined too. It isn't going to make me feel any better,” Frank told NBC News at the time. "The whole thing's just a shame."

Frank added, "She's just a little kid. She f---ed up. She did a damn stupid thing but now her parents are destroyed, her family's destroyed too. I wish there was a way she could get some kind of help, some kind of treatment.”

However, his sister Christine told PEOPLE that she disagreed with the sentencing for different reasons.

“I feel like the sentences should have been [run] consecutively,” she said. “I can't imagine how I would feel if Mackenzie got out in 14 years. My brother's life and Davion's life was completely stolen. They don't get out in 15 years. They don't come back in 15 years. They don't get any chance to live a life.”

Dominic's mom,Christine, spoke at Mackenzie's sentencingand said that "evidence and science proved" she "murdered my son Dominic, as well as Davion."

"Time does not heal this wound," she emotionally shared. "Mackenzie is going to prison because you did this. Be thankful that you're still alive and have a future, whatever that may be. Dom and Davion were robbed of their futures, their hopes and their dreams. Mackenzie showed no mercy on Dom, nor did she on Davion. Only God at this time can have mercy on her soul."

Where is Dominic Russo's family now?

In the years since Dominic tragically died, his family members have either taken a step out of the public eye or continued advocating for him.

Both Frank and his daughter, Christine, appeared inThe Crashwhere they opened up about Dominic's death and legacy. The two further slammed Mackenzie for trying to get her conviction appealed.

"She actually intentionally murdered him," Christine said of Mackenzie in the doc, while later adding, "She got 15 years, that's nothing."

Since the documentary was released on May 15, Christine hasaccusedThe Crashfilmmakers of lyingabout aspects of the case and only using interviews from Mackenzie's friends. She went on to launch a podcast,The Big Sister: Unhinged, where she says she is "working tirelessly to reclaim his narrative from media sensationalism and misinformation."

"A central focus of her work is debunking lies and defending Dominic's character," the description reads. "She dives into the realities of public tragedies and the warning signs of toxic relationships, offering a platform where victims' families can find clarity. Based in Ohio, Christine remains a pillar of the Russo family, dedicated to advocacy and ensuring Dominic and his friend Davion are remembered for the truth of who they were and the lives they lived."
