Little League star Mo'ne Davis joins new women's pro baseball league

More than a decade after starring in the Little League World Series, Mo'ne Davis will be back on the diamond for the inaugural season of the Women's Professional Baseball League.

Davis, the10th overall pick in the WPBL draft, officially signed with the Los Angeles franchise,the league announcedon Monday, Dec. 22.

Davis took the nation by storm as a 13-year-old in 2014 as the only girl on her team from Philadelphia. Displaying a 70 mph fastball, she tossed a shutout in her first game of the tournament andbecame an instant celebrity.

She went on to play basketball and collegiate softball at Hampton University, and earned a graduate degree from Columbia.

Now an outfielder at age 24, Davis will be one of the major attractions as the WPBL begins play next August with four teams – Los Angeles, Boston, New York and San Francisco – competing at a neutral site in Springfield, Illinois.

Former Little League World Series star Mo'ne Davis throws out the first pitch before an April 3, 2025, game between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Colorado Rockies.
