TheParadiseactor, 49, shared their relationship secret during a live taping ofThat Was Us, a rewatch podcast for the Emmy-winning seriesThis Is Us, at The Wiltern in Los Angeles on Saturday, Jan. 17.

While discussingThis Is Uscharacters Kate and Toby's marriage and eventual divorce with his former costars andThat Was Uspodcast co-hostsMandy MooreandChris Sullivan, Brown shared what has made his marriage to Bathé, 49, work for nearly two decades.

"I celebrate 20 years of marriage [in March]," said Brown, who eloped to Bathé in 2006 before having a larger wedding a year later.

He continued, "My wife is the love of my life, not because it's always easy, but because we keep choosing each other. You know what I'm saying? So even when we're not perfect for each other, you can still choose each other and just choose to be perfect for each other."

Brown, who played Randall onThis Is Us, met his longtime love when they were students at Stanford University in the '90s, dating on and off in college before calling it quits when they graduated in 1998.

They later rekindled their relationship, got married in March 2006, welcomed their first son, Andrew, in 2011, and became a family of four with the birth of their second son, Amaré, in 2015.
