AC Milan's Mike Maignan speaks out after walking off pitch following racist abuse in Udinese clash | 1U7350M | 2024-01-27 16:08:01
Mike Maignan says he was subjected to monkey noises and racist abuse earlier than walking off the pitch throughout AC Milan's victory over Udinese on Saturday and has referred to as for larger sanctions from the Italian soccer authorities.
The Rossoneri gained 3-2 in Udine because of a stoppage-time strike from Noah Okafor having been behind in the match till the 83rd minute, though the outcome was slightly insignificant.
In the midst of the first half, Maignan informed both referee Fabio Maresca and the fourth official that he was receiving racist abuse from the home followers behind his objective.
As per protocol, a press release was learn out over the tannoy on the Bluenergy Stadium warning that a continuation of the behaviour would outcome in the match being suspended.
When the monkey chants continued, Maignan alerted the referee again who referred to as a short lived halt to the match and the French goalkeeper – who was understandably furious – stormed down the tunnel again to the dressing room.
He threw off his gloves as he did so and had to be calmed down by his team-mates as well as a number of the Udinese players, whereas others went over to the fans and urged them to stop the chanting.
Though the two teams did return to the pitch after round five minutes to proceed the match, Maignan was furious afterwards and says, despite the fact that it was a small minority of Udinese followers, more have to be carried out to combat the problem of racism in Italian football.
'What happened within the first half is that on the first objective kick I heard monkey noises, I stated nothing,' he explained to Sky Sport Italia when asked what prompted the walk-off.
'The second time I went to get the ball, I heard it again. I advised our bench and the fourth official what occurred and he informed the referee, who stopped the game.
'I stated we can't play soccer like this. It isn't the primary time it has occurred this manner.

'We've got to say that what they are doing is flawed. It isn't the whole crowd, most fans need to cheer on their staff and jeer you, that's normal, but not this. It can't occur.'
On the help he acquired from his team-mates after strolling off the pitch, he continued: 'We've got a really robust group, we're a household and everybody came to visit to help me.
'We got here back out eager to work even more durable to win, as a result of the most effective response is to win.'
