'80s Rock Icons Surprise Dolly Parton With Rare Gift for Her 80th Birthday: 'You Calling Me an Old Bag?'

Dolly Partonblew out the candles for her '80thbirthday, but that wasn't all. Thecountry musicicon, who marked the significant milestone on Monday, Jan. 19, received a very special gift from Irish rock iconsU2.

The band surprised the "9 to 5" singer with a bagpiper, who serenaded her with the classic "Happy Birthday to You" song. In a video posted to Parton's page, the legendary superstar can be seen looking astonished when she is graced by the instrumentalist.

Parton's jaw drops to the floor as an individual presents her with a cakereadingthe words: "LoveBono" spread across the front. Of note,Bono, whose real name isPaul David Hewson, is the lead singer of U2.

The Country Icon Shared Her Gratitude and Showed off Her Sense of Humor

"Thank you! Wow! This is from Bono," Parton says out loud as she examines thebirthday cake, adorned with freshly lit candles. Then, blowing out the candles, she laughs, adding, "I did it!..."

"Thank you! I saw that cake said 'from Bono, 'so he must've sent you?" Parton asks the musician to which he replies, "He did. Yeah....It's an absolute pleasure to be here on behalf of the whole band."

"Oh, from the whole band? Bono, I know him personally," Parton shared before joking. "Well, that's a surprise. Are you calling me an old bag?"

"In no way at all. No," the bagpipe player responded.

"You better not," Parton laughed, showing off her sense of humor before adding, "Well, that was very thoughtful."

"Now that's what you call a surprise!" Parton further noted in the caption of her post. "This old bag sure feels the love! 😉💖 Thank you, Bono and@u2for making my birthday extra special."

Aside from U2, Parton has received loads ofbirthday wishesfrom her friends and fellow artists.Keith Urban,Lainey Wilson, andReba McEntireare among the stars who posted sweet video messages in honor of her 80th birthday.

Parton's 80th birthday has been made into an event in her home state of Tennessee. Earlier this week, theGrand Ole Oprycelebrated the longtime Opry member's birthday with its fourth annual Opry Goes Dolly celebration. In addition to that,Tennessee Gov. Bill Leedeclared Jan. 19, 2026, to be observed as "Dolly Parton Day."
